In 2022, I was a member at a gym in Athens Georgia while I was traveling there for work.I decided to get a gym membership while I was working in town and when the work was finished, I attempted to cancel the gym membership through email, and it was never canceled nor was I given information that I could not cancel it through email. When I received a new debit card and they charge to my bank account no longer happened and they sent me to collections to pay a $200 fine for not canceling membership. Now the gym is saying I have to come back to Georgia or send them a letter in the mail saying that I have to cancel my membership that way. There is no documentation that they ever reach back out to inform me I can cancel my membership that way, and they have already ***** me for almost a full year of payments plus what they wanted to charge me in late fees. Also, when I requested to speak to any management in regards to the issue, they would not allow me to do so.Business response

I am rejecting this response because:
I attempted to cancel this gym two years ago. They stated that they responded to me in regards to not being able to cancel over email which I have no proof of.also the only way I wouldve received the email address to cancel my membership would have been calling the gym and receiving it from a staff member.
furthermore,
they received essentially free money from someone who was under the impression they cancel a whole year ago and never used the gym. I understand the lack of use is not a problem for the gym but, Im sure they can see how frequent I was there over the time period after I thought I cancelled.
the Answer would be zero times. They are not violating any rules, but from a moral perspective, are running a business poorly and I will make that known.
Sincerely,
