I called Lingo in early July to cancel service and was told by the CSR that my contract did not expire until July 25th and if I tried to cancel prior to the 25th I would be assessed a $200 Early Termination Fee. She told me to wait until the 25th to cancel so I could avoid the fee. I contacted Lingo again on July 25th and became frustrated and hung up due to the fact that I could not understand the Rep due to his heavy accent. I called back on the 26th and spoke to a different CSR and requested that my my account be closed. I was told a ticket was created and the account would be closed within 2 weeks (no mention of a fee) I called back on 8/17 one CSR told me the ticket was still in process and a Supervisor told me there was NO TICKET and I would be assessed a $200 Fee to close. I closed the account and will be assessed the $200 fee. I feel that Lingo makes it impossible to close an account without being assessed this fee which seems to be very deceptive and dishonest.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/08/24) */ We have reviewed the account and see that the customer did reach out to us on 7/25/21 although the account notes are not clear that cancellation is what was being requested. The account is in process of being closed. Once that is completed we will waive the ETF fee associated with the account. I will not be able to stop any invoicing from reflecting the charge for the ETF if billed, but we will credit the $200.00 ETF fee should it bill out on the account. We apologize for any inconvenience. Consumer Response /* (2000, 7, 2021/08/26) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) I accept under the condition that the account is considered closed and that once the statement that is received at the end of August is paid(minus any ETF charge). I will NOT be responsible for any further charges.
