Management is refusing to return my deposit even though it was their lack of cooperation that lead to me moving out. I placed several calls to them about the infestation of mice in my apartment. I sent several pictures and videos of how the mice were running thru the kitchen, eating up my food, chewing holes in the walls and they sent a man to may apartment 1 time to supposedly patch up the hole, he stated that he would be back with something to help but never came back. I continued to call and they would make appointments but no one would show up. Finally I contacted them to let them know I would be leaving. When I left I turned in the keys. They are refusing to send me back my deposit but agreed not to put this on my credit since I was breaking the lease. They broke the lease by not sending anyone to come to help with the situation. I have called for the Manager several times but they always tell me he is unavailable and he never returns my calls. I would like my deposit returned to me as it has been 6 months and I still have not received a call back from anyone. This is outlandish.

There are two main issues: as a tenant, I have yet to receive a mailbox key, and I have had no maintenance done on pressing issues. I understand that a landlord can require tenants to retrieve the mailbox keys themselves. However, we were never given such instructions, nor was that a part of our lease. Instead, our landlord- ***********************- consistently gave us different dates and expectations by which we could receive the keys from him. It has been over a month since the scheduled move-in date, and we still do not have access to our mail, which consists of (among other things) healthcare insurance cards and new paychecks. The landlord thus failed to meet the requirements under his contract- which includes the provision of mail. Additionally, a landlord legally cannot make a tenant make or pay for repairs (excluding those situations in which the tenant is responsible for such damages). And yet while never coerced to do so, my roommates and I have had to handle damages incurred by faulty infrastructure ourselves due to the lateness of maintenance; most recently, we had an issue with the kitchen sink that maintenance did not solve that we had to fix ourselves- had we not, we would have gone over a week without running water in the kitchen.

I moved into a unit at Bulldog Crossing in Athens, Ga. The lease began 8/1/21 but we were allowed to move in prior. The conditions were accepted as is and we have several maintenance requests that have been active for three months. The lease states that conditions that are considered impairing to one's health are to be fixed immediately. We have a leak from the top floor to the bottom floor, the dryer keeps disconnecting from the vent line, there a clogged drains, the dishwasher leaks and we have not been able to get blinds. I have gone the standard route but nothing has improved. Our unit is one of the only few to not be renovated and is nearly unlivable but we're expected to pay the same monthly rent as other tenants. Up until this month, as an act of resistance, I have not, I have paid my rent in full and on time. There were written agreements made and verbal as I understand they are not liable for verbal agreements, the lease states that the conditions must be at least livable.
