Needed contractor to trim shrubs and deliver a load of dirt to fill holes at my church. When I called to accept the bid, he asked me to send him a copy of his estimate because he had lost his. Shortly after, he called to see if he could start work immediately, but I had to coordinate with our maintenance man. On the scheduled day, he arrived 2 hours early and said he needed the estimate signed and payment before he could start work. His estimate indicated checks should be made payable to him and not the company. Halfway through the trimming, he approached me saying my check was not accepted by his bank and he wanted to be paid in cash. I called my bank and not only did I have sufficient funds, but they did not show that anyone had attempted to verify the check. I told him that I could get him a different check from the church account, which was at a local credit union. He did accept this check and gave back the other. When he was preparing to leave, I asked him about the load of dirt. He said he would have to deliver it the next day, and my maintenance man told him where to dump it. The next day, the tree service texted he was having tire trouble and would deliver the dirt later in the day. Around 5pm, I saw his truck heading to the church after everyone had left for the day. The next morning the maintenance man told me the load was filled with rocks, chunks of asphalt, garbage, and ***** When I saw the pile, I called the tree service and complained. He denied that his estimate included the dirt until I texted him an excerpt from his estimate. He said I would have to pay him to remove the pile and that he would have to repair his truck and skid-loader before he could remove it. That was over 2 weeks ago and the pile is still there.

I needed emergency snow clearing. Owner came out to do an estimate, which he never said had a fee attached. Then suggested the "seasonal" rate of $100. I needed the service right away, so gave him what cash I had $60. He said he would start the next afternoon, then pick up the other $40. The next day the blizzard came thru. My need to go out was not there, but I called to ask him to still come out to clear it off anyway. Was rude on the phone and never came to do the work. I asked for my.money back and that is when he said there was a cost for the estimate and he was keeping the $60.
