Wish I could give negative stars. Just read all of the one star reviews. Ditto for me. They raised the subscription rate from 2023 by 80% without any kind of notification. When I asked to cancel and receive a refund, was told no refunds are allowed. Plus, there is no way to opted out of the automatic payment from your account on the website. I've been a subscriber since 2009, but no more! The Idaho Statesman Response

Thank you for your message to The Idaho Statesman. We do apologize for the customer experience you had with your subscription. We are sorry to hear you did not receive a notification of the rate increase. There was an email sent out prior to the renewal payment. Prices are subject to change. At this time, our records show your account was updated to a promotional rate and a request for a partial refund was honored. Your card information has also been removed as requested on 4/12/24. Please look for an email to confirm the refund.
Please feel free to contact us at ************ or ****************************************** if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you

The paper was fine and I really enjoyed using the e-version during the $1 for one month trial. However, when I cancelled, that's when it was obvious I wasn't dealing with a local paper.1. I cancelled three days before the end of my $1 contract. They confirmed the cancellation.2. I was charged the full price on the day my contract would renew even though my account was supposed to have been cancelled and I no longer had access to the paper which confirmed it was cancelled.3. Emailed them a month later and received a reply that they do not issue refunds as per their policy. That's fine, but they charged me after everything was cancelled so it wasn't a refund as much as it was an inaccurate charge.4. Called the number which sounded outsourced. This person said my account was cancelled and I was wrongly charged, and that I should have a refund on my credit card (now it's been two months since the charge occurred). No refund was found on my credit card.5. Called again, and once again I felt like I was not dealing with a local answering service, especially since they asked what state I lived in and thought it was ****. This person said my account was cancelled and I was wrongly charged, and that I should have a check in the mail (again, nothing in the mail).I finally filed a credit card dispute after three months. I was told a) I wasn't getting a refund, b) that the refund would appear on my credit card, and c) that the refund would appear as a check in the mail. No refund ever occurred from The Idaho Statesman.Review from Paul F

We are having the same issues that many other subscribers have listed. For the past year a participant in the program I manage has failed to receive his paper for weeks at a time. He looks forward to reading his paper daily and has not been able to due to spotty deliveries. I have made numerous calls on his behalf and the best they have had to offer was an additional month subscriptions. The funny thing is they fail to deliver most days during this month. the subscription is ending soon and we have found an alternate paper for him to read that is!!!! delivered daily as promised. With all the missed deliveries and lack of a refund policy you would think a class action lawsuit would be in the works. As a business administrator this is unacceptable.Review from Dave L

I have not received a paper in nearly 3 months. Though I cancelled my automatic renewal, I was not able to get a refund as per their policy. I notified them on a weekly basis at the beginning that I wasn't receiving my paper and less frequently after that. I feel that I was ripped of approximately $300 from non delivery of the paper that I paid for. Though they did respond with a half assed apology, they did nothing to resolve the problem. I realize that businesses have had problems with insufficient personnel due to covid, but if they could not follow through on their part of the contract to deliver a paper they should have given me a refund.Review from Cynthia S

I have tried to cancel this subscription for my 98 year old mother and have asked for a refund for 4 months now since my mother has not received the paper at all. They told me several times the subscription was canceled then I would receive some type of notification making it clear it wasn't canceled. 12/7 they did an automatic removal of $221.95. She has not received a paper since before this automatic payment. I have asked for a refund repeatedly, 2 times I was told I would receive a refund but none ever came. I told them to remove my credit card number for automatic pay I am hoping they actually have. The last time I called a couple of weeks ago I spoke with a different person than usual she said my account hadn't been canceled. I asked her for a refund and to remove my mothers number from their call list. It appears the account has finally been canceled but now I have received a FINAL PAYMNENT notice and they are calling my mother again trying to get her to sign up with them again. We signed up for Press Tribune and pay 1/4 the monthly price we paid to the Statesman. I understand the Statesman is having carrier problems but when I called them I had to listen to a scripted dialogue no matter who I spoke with. They lied to me on several occasions telling me they would deliver the paper by 11 and it never arrived. They lied to me about canceling the paper and sending me a refund and they lied to me about removing my mothers number from their call list. Really horrible customer service I will never re subscribe to Idaho Statesman unless there is new owner ship and lower prices.Review from Milan K

We have subscribed to the Statesman for over 50 years. A few months ago daily delivery was suspended and we would often find several prior days in a package somewhere in our yard.About three months ago they stopped delivering the paper entirely. A month ago our subscription ended and we did not renew. We are now getting several calls a day (high pressure type) wanting us to renew our subscription. We have consistently told them NO and even explained why. We have asked them to remove our name, which they have not done.Apparently the Statesman which at one point was a very good paper has deteriorated into unethical practice.Review from Wes P

I have been a customer for at least a year or more. I have a print subscription for the Sunday-Friday paper and to have it delivered. I pay a substantial amount to have this service. Since about early February, I have only received the Sunday paper (although there has been a few that haven't come). The Monday - Friday papers haven't been delivered. I was charged in May 2021 for about $700 for 6 months, And then the same amount in November 2021 for 6 months. I have submitted complaints of missing papers by phone and by submitting online. I currently have about 35 emails from the statesman saying the same thing. They are sorry that this keeps happening and say that I don't deserve this kind of service. This continues to happen. I have sent emails directly to customer service and they claim they will fix the problem to no avail. I pay for these papers, but I don't get them. I am not getting the service I am paying for. They claim that you can not get a refund. My current subscription goes until May 22, 2022. I cannot get the balance of my subscription. In my opinion they are not doing anything to fix the issue. If I could put a no star rating I would gladly do it.Review from Anamaria Q

I have been a customer for 8 years. Last August the delivery of my paper became very sporatic, missing 1 to 2 papers a week. I initially responded on their web page notification system and would get a note back by email saying they were sorry and would notify my carrier. Nothing changed so I emailed the manager of the delivery system and he actually wrote me back once saying they were sorry, they were having problems getting people to work for them. Promised it would get better after the first of the year. Back in October of 21 my subscription was due and they sent me a **** for around $450. I called them and was going to cancel, but the lady kept lowering the cost and ended up only charging me $205 for the year. The delivery problems have continued and the first week in February they stopped all together. I thought about contacting them but that has not worked in the past so ... so long Statesman. No more. Thinking about the ***** paper.Review from Lorrie R

I have subscribed to the the Idaho Statesman for over 5 years. Things went well until this past year. Since October, I've only received a paper on Thanksgiving. I have called & emailed to only get a generic response of "sorry, we'll look into it. I have continued to be billed (over $400.00). It's very frustrating.
