In the first year of owning this device I had to request 3 replacements. They seem to randomly go off and randomly just break.Definitely don't buy this brand because it's the cheapest.First Alert

Not noting the product (though they seem like most smoke alarms I've had to deal with - mostly good but go off at the most annoying times due to ******** law), but the customer service. Truly excellent. The phone tree was very simple and streamlined in a way that I not only got to the option quickly but also got to a person quickly without being put on hold (at all!!). The representative was super nice, got the info she needed efficiently and got me the info I needed clearly and concisely. I didn't feel like I was in a guessing game or a game of "gotcha!" like many customer service lines, especially when dealing with using the warranty. The solution of replacing the alarms made sense and fit my expectations. Paying the cost of shipping was perfectly reasonable with reasonable timelines. Really couldn't be more pleased with the service.First Alert

I have been a loyal customer of ******************** for over five years, but my experience has been nothing short of frustrating. We have 12 units in our home, and in that time, I've had to request 19 replacements due to repeated failures. Every time I reached out, I asked if there was a long-term solution to avoid this, but I was only told to replace all the parts that come in the kit. In the past few months alone, five units failed, but I was too exhausted to deal with the hassle of replacing them again. However, when our kitchen alarm stopped working, I had no choice but to contact customer service. This is where the experience went from bad to worse. I was told I needed to provide pictures or access to view the alarms. I didnt feel comfortable granting that access and couldnt locate pictures for all five unitssome of the defective alarms had likely been thrown away. When I explained the situation to their representative, ****, and then to Supervisor ****** they both refused to send replacements without proof. I even expressed my concerns about having a non-functional alarm in the kitchen, especially since there was a recent house fire on our street. Still, they refused to assist. This ongoing issue has left me with no choice but to replace the entire system. First Alert alarms not only malfunction repeatedly but also have a habit of going off in the middle of the night for no reason. Dealing with their customer service is incredibly frustrating, and their lack of accountability for a product designed to protect lives is unacceptable. I cannot recommend First Alert to anyone looking for a reliable safety system.First Alert

We apologize for the issues this consumer states they have had. We do use a system using their phones so we can located model #'s and date of manufacture from the alarms. This is used to assist consumers- but it is not necessary/demanded by us. From what we found from this consumer- they provided us with information on 1 alarm- manufactured in 9/12/2018. Do not have DOM from others and not sure if they have a total of 17 alarms in their home. Our instructions do advise that there should be no more than 12 alarms interconnect on the ********** can have another 6 additional devices on the same line. Those devices can be a strobe only device, a heat detector, a ** only alarm or an axillary device. We sent 12 alarms in June 2022 & another 5 will be shipping. We do stand behind our products and their warranty with replacement- at no charge to the consumer. We will reach out to this consumer and determine a resolution with themReview fromSusan C

I was so excited about not changing batteries for 10 years. My units are the P1210 manufactured in 2022. I purchased 6. One malfunctioned the first year and I tossed it. Another went off during the night (always during the night) a week ago. I removed it. Last night with company staying at our home, another went off. This morning I took them all down. I am not going through this anymore! Do not buy!First Alert

Less than a year and the same problems as the rest. Had one replaced due to dead batteries but I actually had a fire and the alarms didnt go off! So we had chicks and the heat lamp fell into the pine bedding and fills the house with smoke. Nothing! Put butter on my skillet raise the roof. Use my wood fire place, have it burp, nothing. Dates on the oldest alarm is November of 2020. Its 1am and I had to disconnect and carry the alarms outside to blow them out and make sure they are clean. I have smart alarms that I can silence with the phone and it says I cant due to hi smoke conditions. Not true. They are now wiped and blown clean outside in a shed, in a tote and buried so I can sleep. It woke up my youngest while the others just slept, this happens so often. We have a dog that wines with them and our kids are no longer believers that the alarms do anything. Sadly it has convinced us to walk to a fire before going outside. I am not sorry to say but first alert has lost my trust and if I had a chance for a refund rather than a replacement I would take it. I dont need to test them weekly they want to go off more often and sadly false alarms 98% of the time. Yeah the 2% I burned my toast or bacon but it has become a joke of making breakfast without setting off the alarms when in less than a month (two actual fires) they failed to go off. First Alert what happened? I trusted you now my entire family sleeps through fire alarms. Stop deafening my children and I to something that should matter. The advertising of less false alarms is a joke.First Alert

I bought 1 First Alert smoke detector and 3 First Alert smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, all with 10 year batteries. The smoke detector began giving false alarms at 5 months. One smoke/carbon monoxide detector began giving false alarms at 4 years. They are all clean and in excellent condition. I emailed First Alert, provided pertinent information, and requested replacements. They did not respond. I am done with First Alert products. They are unreliable and not trustworthy.First Alert

Hello,We show that we did receive a request for a replacement alarm on 3/2/2024. We sent an email asking for additional information on 3/4/2024. Case # assigned was ********. We did not receive a response, on 3/8/2024 we sent another email advising that since we hadn't heard from him that we would close the case out, but advised that we could reopen it and provided our ************ and our support hours of Mon-Fri 9am-8pm CST, ********* 9am to 5:30pm CST.Emails were sent to: ******************* We can only assume that our email responses went to this email address' spam or junk folder.I have taken the liberty of sending a smoke alarm and a combination smk/co alarm to *******************.We apologize for the nuisance alarms he has experienced. Nuisance alarms can be caused by dirt/dust/debris getting inside the alarm sensing chamber or the alarms being installed near high humidity areas( laundry rooms, bathrooms, near dishwasher) or being located too close to combustion sources. 1 starPurchased 4 with 10 yr sealed battery. Three batteries failed within 1-5 years. One of the replacements failed in 4 years. One of the detectors was also a CO detector - the smoke detector would false alarm once per month. It seems a premature dead battery is not considered a defect or dangerous. I say it is because it means having to climb up to the ceiling way more than anyone should be expected to do so. False advertising and does not fulfill the 10 battery laws that are mandated in many states.Review fromTroy F

1 starAfter a few years, alarms start to siren for no reason and will not shut off. I had to disconnect the alarms in order to shut off the unbearable noise. I followed the directions on the website to turn it off, but it doesn't work. It defeats the whole purpose of having a fire alarm when you can not have it work properly. My whole hard-wired system is worthless, and I would not recommend it to anyone!Review fromPhyllis F

5 starsIm giving this a five star rating but I do want to establish it is for the customer service I received, not the product. I had the same issues with my units as listed in previous reviewschirping in middle of the night (of course!), nothing seemed to stop it and they werent even five years old. After numerous hair pulling nights, ****** searches and irritable days, I called customer service. They were very patient, pleasant and offered to replace the offending unit. After replacing the first two, the torture continued so I called and they replaced another one. I cannot in good faith say Im 100% sold on the units but I was very impressed with the customer service I received. It was refreshing to reach a person fairly quickly, to be able to understand them, for them to offer to walk me through troubleshooting steps (which I had already done multiple times) and for them to do what they said they would do in a timely manner. Again this rating is for customer service.
