Today I went to purchase some items at La Unica Food Mart on ************ in *******. When I was about to pay, I noticed the screen on the register had two separate amounts. One amount was for cash purchases and another amount was for credit card purchases. I also noticed that it advertised BR membership. As I reviewed my receipt I noticed there was a surcharge on every item. For example a meat item that was $17.99 (sticker price) was $18.71, a second meat item that was $3.24 (sticker price) was $3.37, a third meat item that was $3.54 (sticker price) was $3.68, a bag of crackers that had a sticker price of $3.99 was $4.15, a can of beans with a $2.29 sticker price was $2.38 , another canned food item with a $2.99 sticker price was $3.11 and a dry food item that had a sticker price of $5.99 was $6.23 on the receipt. In addition there was a grocery tax, a non food tax and a soda tax applied. I called up La Unica and I asked for the manager. I was told he was not there. I inquired why every item was more than the sticker price. They explained that if you paid in cash it was the sticker price and if you paid with a credit card it was a bit more. I have never heard of anything like this at a grocery store. The sticker price on an item is the price, and that is what the consumer pays. I mentioned that they should have signs explaining this system and inform the customer when they go to the register to pay.
