On 6/27/2024, I notified Richard Shapiros office by phone that I no longer needed tax appeal services for my residential property: ***********************************, which was contingent. At that time, I paid a $900 bill for services. Sale of that property later closed on 7/1/2024. Despite calling to terminate services, I was still billed $212 on 11/19/2024 for additional ************** performed on behalf of ***********, despite no longer owning the property and having previously informed Richard Shapiros office that I no longer wanted services for that property. I called on 1/13/2025, to inform Richard Shapiros office that the bill for services on 11/19/2024 was sent in error but was informed that the office of Richard Shapiro would continue to bill me until they received a termination of services request in writing. The notice by phone on 6/27/2024 was not sufficient to terminate services. This business practice is arguably illegal and definitely unethical.

    Hello Mrs. ********* style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">
Ive attached page two of our standard Agreement, and indicated in red are the paragraphs that detail how to cancel an appeal; it says it must be done in writing and that was not done. When you phoned to make your payment on 06/27/2024, the call notes did not mention a pending sale to the property. Because of this, my employees simply were not authorized to zero out the balance due. Its certainly too bad it never occurred to you just to ask to speak with me. Im really surprised. However, your complaint did eventually bring this matter to my attention. I looked into it and I was able to determine that you were probably telling the truth. That is why I called you two days in a row, left apologetic messages and offered to make things right. Ironically, multiple phone messages werent enough to motivate you to return my calls. I did everything I could. You stymied me by not calling me back.

    Sincerely,

    Richard Shapiro

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********.  Despite multiple phone calls, I was never able to connect with Richard Shapiro by phone, but was able to speak with his assistant, ******, on February 14th.  ****** confirmed that the outstanding bill for services charged post-sale of the property in reference would be waived.  This resolution is satisfactory to me.

    Sincerely,
    ****** *****

The contract I signed stated that if there wasn't a reduction I wouldn't have a payment. There was no reduction. My taxes have increased and I have talk to ***** on several occasions stating that if they made a mistake they would correct the bill. As ***** begin to explain why there is no reduction. 1st ***** stated it was due to the Equalizer and tax rate. After we went over all the properties neither of those had increased. In fact they decreased. Then ***** said he needed to email me the Estimator. Although Shapiro's office had no difficulty emailing me my bill. ***** stated that his emails were not going through this went on for days til I said I would email him and he could email me off of my email. ***** stated he received my email. He eventually emailed me back however I never did not receive the estimator. After weeks of no calls or emails. I contacted the BBB for assistance.

We finished explaining the details of the property tax appeal savings to ************** and she now understands that the appeals actually did in fact save her money.
