I had agreed for Aloha Construction to do my roof, siding, and gutters in that order even though I was a little leery about the so-called promotional credit that I was offered. I was offered $500 to put an Aloha sign in front of my house. After talking with my insurance, he offered me another $400 for the promotional credit in total $900 since my deductible was higher. To my understanding I was going to be working with **** who I signed the contract with. After the siding was finished on September 27, 2023, I called the office to voice my concerns about the workmanship of the siding, and no one contacted me. Then in mid-November ***** comes to my house at 7pm unannounced, wanting payment. I told him that my bank had a hold on the funds until I had the estimate and invoice of the work done. He told me they emailed an invoice in October, but I had not seen it. At that time, I told him I called about my concerns on the workmanship of the siding with no response. He wanted to look at it in the dark with a flashlight. We planned for the next day to see it in daylight and go over the invoice. The next day he came over with **** who never introduced himself as the supervisor. They started to belittle me and not taking note of my complaint. They bullied me throughout the whole conversation. I told them that I was walking away and will be calling the office to file a complaint. Then **** proceeded to threaten to put a lien on the house. I never once said that I would not pay the bill, I just needed an explanation of the invoice because some work was not done that they billed for and then my concerns about the workmanship. When I called the office, I requested to speak to a supervisor above **** and *****. I later found out that **** was the supervisor. In a later conversation, I asked **** for someone above him since he would not address my concerns in a professional manner, and he stated that there was no one above him. He refused to give me a contact above him. Even though, I did not agree with how **** handled my complaint, on November 18, I went to the bank and had them print out the check for $19,156.86 since I now had the invoice and wanted a resolution and would follow with the complaint. On Dec 4, after many attempts of calling the office and not get a resolution with ********** then reached out to ****, who I signed the contract with. I explained how ***** and **** were treating me and was uncomfortable dealing with them. He agreed to be the contact person. I reached out to him several times to pay the bill since I had the cashier check printed for $19,156.86 since November 18. Due to circumstances with ****, it was not until Jan 11 that he came to pick up the check. He noted on the contract that I was still owed the $900 credit. The check cleared on Jan. 22. Then on Jan 22, I received an email stating that I owed $500 more. Immediately, I reached out to ****, and he stated not to be concerned about it because he had handled it. Then on February 15, I got a certified letter that a lien has been placed on my home. On February 23, I got a call from my bank making me aware that a lien was placed on my house.

Aloha came out in mid-July to assess the roof and siding for hail damage. All claims and files were approved on July 24. No work had even started until mid-September with the roof. The siding was started on October 18 and then "finished" within the next few days. No final walkthrough was completed. On October 23, reached out about work that needed to be corrected to our bay window and front door. Was told it would be corrected. Reach out again about repair on October 31. Reached out again on November 17 and November 29. Repairs have still not been made.

Aloha came to my door April 5th, 2023 re hail damage of 3/31/23. And wanted to have a free look to see if we had damage. He said that he would contact and deal with ins and I needed to sign something that only their company would do work. He said were only gonna charge what the ins pays and well handle everything. And itll be done quickly. I reluctantly signed but told them I wasnt sure about them because Im not from here. I also had a grandson due mid July and wanted it done before then. Im disabled and I cant deal with everything all at once plus I had and still have multiple surgeries. Long story short they did terrible work. The corners dont even align anywhere. The roof is lipping. The caulk is so poorly done and everywhere. They didnt even have the colors or anywhere near the colors I wanted but I found a color I liked and since I couldnt get out of contract, went with it. It just got done. Its sept 1st as I write this. Its been ridiculous and a mess. Then they finally got the gutters done. They are hung crooked. And a day or two after they finished we had a tremendous rainstorm and were W/o power for a half hr or so. The basement, my daughter and now 1 mo old grandsons apartment, flooded. The downspout only had the 2 elbow it didnt have the extenders or the black tube back on it. The old ones were laying in the yard so we stuck it on really quickly during the storm to stop it worsening. Everything was soaked 2 or so and 4 big rugs were ruined and more. Theres damages and they wont take responsibility. My ins wont because it is obviously ALOHAs incompetent work that caused it to literally pour into the basement and inundated the dewatering and brand new sump pump system when they came back online. I dont know what else to do. They are threatening lien and action for non payment but my ins guy and bankruptcy lawyer both said not to pay them. They broke an expensive large statue and a smaller 1 and destroyed the plants and a new **** too

We have read and reviewed the complaint by ********************. As we discussed with ***** several times, we sympathize with her situation however the basement flood had absolutely nothing to do with her siding or gutters. Attached are timestamped photos from our system showing the following reasons that were explained to *****. The same exact size gutters and downspouts were installed on her home with the extensions hooked up and all in the existing locations. Most importantly are the attached pics showing the inside of her sump pit and clearly shows no outside drain going into pit, there is a 4" pic pipe that is capped off. So clearly no outside water can even enter this pit. Furthermore her house is built on a cinderblock foundation! There is absolutely no way her gutter job cause the basement to flood. As far as her statue, I have no previous pre construction pics showing otherwise so I took ***** at her word and have agreed to reimburse her for that. Currently ***** has not given us a single ***** towards her project, I am willing to help her however I can but we need to see some sort of payment.

So we had a bad hail storm back in mid April I believe. After that all the storm chasers came around. Aloha Construction was the one I worked with. To make a long story short, They did a pretty crappy job. I paid them 7k and I would like to get that back and hire someone to do the roof properly.Thank you

This complaint has been going on for months now. We have addressed every single concern of ******* including multiple stuff that wasn't our responsibility. The roof has zero issues and has been inspected by both the village or Elgin and ourselves. This last complaint doesn't even have any issues listed, let alone any supporting facts. We will not be giving any discount and ****** still hasn't paid his bill. This has been a blatent attempt to avoid paying his bill. ****** is well past 90 days out on payment and if not settled soon, we will take the next necessary steps.

      Customer response

      09/25/2023

First off, you guys came knocking on my door and promised me a new roof and it's been nothing but a disaster. Your guys were here 4 to 5 days replacing tiles and not even sure what else they were doing. After they said they were done, I noticed all the drip guard issues, tile issues and the holes in the gutters. Yes they replaced the gutters but the drip guard is now holding the ******** on the back of the house (see pictures attached) and *** said there is nothing you can do about it. This is unsatisfactory. The roof should not look like this.

I have no issue with paying for what I'm getting. I just want it done right.

Therefore I need to hire another roofer to look at the work that was done and repair anything they need to. This will obviously come out of what I owe to Aloha. I will provide a receipt of the work they will do.

More stall tactics. Various licensed roofers and your village have inspected the work. Your roof is done right. If anyone makes any repairs or displaces any shingles, that will void your warranty. We have went above and beyond addressing  your concerns and even fixed unwarranted ones that were lack of maintenance on your end. I have exhausted all options. I will be willing to meet you at your home one more time to go over any concerns you have, but after that if you need to pay your bill. Then you will be issued our 10 year craftsmanship warranty.

I don't want to delay this any more than you. This is not a stall tactic at all. As the pictures I have attached to my last response, the roof is unsatisfactory. Seeing is believing. Just look at them, you can't tell me that's normal for a new roof? Most my neighbors got new roofs and theirs don't like like this. They are the ones saying that it was done wrong. I don't even think the village went on the roof to inspect, so I don't trust them.

I have read the complaints listed and I am not even sure why you have a BBB business if you do not do something about these companies. State Farm did not want to approve my roof and right fulls so - first time they rejected it second time again they rejected - third time they made sure they are here when a *************** came to evaluate the damage and they approved it - They made me sign a paper not dated that is not even legible - my neighbor paid 19k for a roof same ************* and she shooed they off as they were so unprofessional. Yes very unprofessional and I am happy they filed as I will *** them as well, I would not have this company near anything in the area - following the installation and invoices which they just generated in a shady way - 19,8 plus the **** for gutters and ultimately ohh another invoice to the insurance for 11 k then they add interest - the sales manager was cocky and unprofessional as a result my insurance company dropped me because they were shady - so let s see how good their attornies are as they stated they always win - good take the roof down deinstall what you put in and recover my roof back - if your attorneis and the court system and you always win...let s see who you bribe - they were discriminatory and disgusting through the entire process! So let s see who will win this! I have also gotten other estimates from other companies and I am sorry you ever knocked door to door in this neighborhood as people saw you were doing my home yes the first home.......then you received others! Oh the sales man did not like a woman single ..going against him and standing up for my rights and you are so hot to trot with your well connected attorneis as you said! Let s see how well connected you are ****************** and NO I do not want a response from you! Disgusting!Ok so my neighbor pays 19k for a better quality roof I give you **** plus I tell you to do the gutters out of pocket and pay you ****+ out of pocket then you go invoice the insurance company again for 11k..and you *** me! Great let s see if my roof is GOLD compared to others in the neighborhood and other neighborhoods or you are well connected especially when there is a single woman living in a boig house I was told! What is it to you what age single or not and the size of my home! You are below disgusting!

We have read ******************* complaint. First off she agreed to our terms and conditions after 2 failed claim attempts with other organizations . We met with her insurance company and got her roof approved. As per our contact, we work for the insurance proceeds, so the insurance company determines the price of the job. She was not over charged. Her neighbors roof is not the same. Her gutters were a retail job that was completed 5/31/22. Her roof claim was made on 6/14/22 and gutters are no where on the estimate and were not billed for.  She has received all her money for her roof replacement from her insurance company, and has a $12,000 + balance for over 9 months already. We have tried hard to work with her but she told us she had spent her insurance money. We have offered financing as well as payment plans but she was not willing to pay the bill. Her roof is issue free and feels because a neighbors smaller roof was cheaper, not comparing apples to apples. So yes we added interest which we are willing to waive for full payment but again no response. We did turn her file over to our legal ***** Her resolution is no contact, we are no longer contacting her as this is now in the hands of the court. We are still willing to resolve this but that's a two way street, we urge *************** to reach out to ** as we have tried several times but without the derogatory statements like taking advantage of her because she is a female when in fact our sales rep, the one who got her approved after others couldn't, is a female and one of our best reps. *** other info needed, please reach back out as I will be happy to provide all the documentation.

      Complaint: 20145863

I am rejecting this response because:

I do not owe this company anything as they installed a roof on a very high end house sloppy and the turrets

were not covered properly as they should be on this type of home - they also installed the wrong cheap size of gutters again on this type of house thinking that I am dumb and will overlook it -

I already have estimates and pictures from other companies and my next door neighbor who had a gutter company install the proper size for cheaper -

I paid our of pocket for the gutters and even so they cheated me - prrof another company installed the proper size and NOT an upgrade for cheaper -

The job is not finished as again the turrts just have some staples with a half a** job! confirmed by 3 other companies Noone trying to cheat anyone here or get their money - they are bogus and ***************** NO is not going to pay for a half a** job! They can come and deinstall the gutters give my money back so I can go with a good company that will install the proper size -

Turrets I have had other companies look at the job and indeed they are improperly done and NOT finished just like a trash house!

I had my roof installed on Sep 2022 from Aloha Construction. They came to our door and pointed that there may a hail damage and they can help submit a claim and didn't explain about the deductible that I have to pay. And when I tried to back out they said I had already filed a complaint and the ***************** had already processed the check and now we cant do anything.First after the installation I noticed a rotting on my soffit for which I called them and they had confirmed that this was already present and i was convinced and got it fixed Second, on the month of Dec 2022 I noticed a considerable leak on my garage from the attic. The production team who came to check on the problem looked at the attic and just checked the sidings. They didnt even care to go to roof top where the problem was. They said the siding of the house is loose and they are going to send a sales rep to estimate to change the entire siding of the house and I almost fell for it. On a second thought I checked with another roofing company to confirm and they said that it was caused due the recent installation and they has messed it up. I called Aloha to explain about this and shared pics to which they were not happy and said that siding were intact when completed the job and this was caused by something else and shared pics. How can I believe that as i never had any such problems and this happened just after the installation. Maybe during the roof installation they might have loosened things which lead to the leakege. And the sad part was that during my call with Aloha, the manager called me a Scumbag trying to get things from them.I would like Aloha to fix the issues which they caused and apologize for the misbehavior.

We have read and reviewed the complaint from *****. First I will address the deductible issue. It is written in bold letters multiple times in our contract. Our sales reps read the terms verbatim to our customers. The deductable is an agreement between the homeowner and the insurance company, and that agreement was made long before he hired us. Also there was enough extra items in his claim that he only paid $387.00 out of a $2132.00 deductible. Next I will address his rotted and moldy siding that he discovered 2 days after the job was built. Rot and mold does not appear in 2 days. We have pre construction photos showing this existed before the roof build, Shyam was shown these photos. Lastly, I will address his loose/mis installed siding. First off his insurance paid for the loose section as part of the claim, so obviously the damage was prior to the roof. We also have and showed ***** a video of the section that is about to fall off his house. He claimed he had another company come out to diagnose but the did not go on roof or climb a ladder, instead they flew a drone. No clue how anyone can diagnose a leak from flying a toy around the property. This section of siding needs to be fixed or leak will continue, Shyam already has been paid for that repair via his ************* but chose to use those funds to pay his deductible. We would have no problems fixing his siding for the insurance proceeds, in fact we offered that several times. If ***** felt disrespected, our apologies, however was not the intention.

I am not sure why they are pointing about the deductible and in no way this is related to this. I had consulted another roofing company to check on he leak and they had confirmed that J- Siding were damaged and that has caused the leak and its pretty clear the this was caused during installation of the roof. The tech from the Aloha didnt even try to find the root cause and simply pointed that the siding is loose and need to change the entire siding pf the house.

Also they would really need to be more respectful to the customers.

We pointed out the deductible because it was in the customers complaint. As we have offered/asked several times, we are willing to meet the roofer that diagnosed this at the customers home. We have also asked for any documentation from this roofer. None was provided, customer didn't even remember the name of the company. Again, we are willing to help in any way possible but his siding is completely rotted out and misinstalled. We even offered to replace at cost, at this point I don't know what else we can do.

Regarding the deductible, the ***************** provided refund to repair the broken sidings and damaged gutters. When I checked whether Aloha could do this repair, they said that they shall not be working on small maintenance and shall work only if full repalcement of the gutters is refunded by the *****************. So with this I had no other option that using the refund given by the insurance company to my deductible. I had consulted with another roof company and they pointed out that J-Sidings on the roof has been broken and they helped in repairing it. These were  broken by the installation of the new roof. They should be taking the responsibility of the damages they had caused.

On 7-19-22 Aloha Construction installed a new roof on our home. We have been requesting an itemized bill to pay the balance due and have not received the requested invoice with all the needed information included. Our insurance company paid for the roof and they are requesting the bill to show it's paid in full with the completion date of the project so they can release the remaining depreciation value on the claim. My wife has emailed them asking them for this information to be presented to us in person in exchange for the check but so far they have come to our house once without the requested bill/ invoice and I have also gone to their offices to pay them directly on 8-1-22 and they tried to give me a bill showing a "credit" for the amount due and not showing it was paid in full. All we are asking is to have an itemized receipt (by each line item), showing how much we paid along with the date of completion on it and showing the invoice has been paid in full upon presentation of the check for the amount of the invoice.

      Business response

We have read the complaint by ****************** and would love to solve this, but ***************** is simple stalling. His story is full of inaccuracies. On 7/20/22 a Certificate of completion was sent to his insurance company. On 7/22/22 an invoice was emailed to him via our software system and he responded by asking for a more itemized invoice, witch we did and sent back to him on 7/25/22. Then his wife responded asking for the invoice to have the completion date on it, we sent it the following day. She replied that she was satisfied with the invoice and asked if her husband could come to our office and give us a cashiers check in exchange for a pay in full receipt and warranty certificate, we said no problem. On 8/1/22 ***************** came to our office with a folded piece of paper in his hand (clearly not a cashiers check) demanding a paid in full invoice. We tried to explain to him that once he gives us the check we would give him that, he refused. To try to make the situation go smoothly, we asked for him just to give us the check number so we could put it on a paid in full invoice and print it out to give him, and again refused. We asked him what companies or businesses he has dealt with that give you a receipt before paying for something, and he became belligerent, cussing at our staff and walked out screaming for us to call our lawyers. We gave him a few days to cool down and attempted to call again with no response. I had our company lawyer try to call him to settle this and again no return call. We will give ***************** any type of paid receipt he would like, as soon as he brings us the cashiers  check he claims to have. We will give him to the end of the business week to contact us to make arrangements or we will begin the legal process.

      Complaint: 17704958

I am rejecting this response because:  First, in response to the fact that I have been stalling, that would only make sense if I wasn't the one that filed the complaint to begin with. Me and my wife were the ones that requested on multiple occasions that ****** come pick up the check and bring the paid in full invoice with her so we could do an exchange and she never brought it either time she came over. Also, Aloha was the ones that requested the cashier's check instead of a regular check once we agreed I could come into the office for the exchange ( I have a copy of the receipt for the cashier's check to show we got it and had it on the date I came into the office to get the itemized invoice we were promised). We have emails proving we have been trying to get the itemized invoice with a line by line breakdown of the prices and what was done, including the total price with paid in full with a zero balance on it since the date the work was completed. Per the emails we attached to the complaint, each time we got an invoice it was different from the previous one, including the price. So far we have now had 3 face to face meetings and at no point have we seen the requested invoice so we could exchange for the check. As for what happened when I went into the office, there was no cussing or acting belligerent on my part. I have proof that I only requested what was promised and once again, I was expected to give a check/ cashier's check for an invoice that still shows we owe a balance. I didn't agree to that and therefore I will not be giving a check without a proper receipt. My insurance company needs the receipt the exact way I requested it to show the work was completed and paid for. Also, there have been NO phone calls or messages from this company or their lawyer since 8-1-22 and I would like Aloha to provide dates they called if they claim they called multiple times. If we can arrange for a neutral, 3rd party to collect both the correct invoice we requested and the cashier's check and distribute them at the same time then I will be willing to do that. Just to clarify, what we need exactly is an invoice with the date the work was completed, a breakdown of each item purchased and/ or labor with a price for each line item and it needs to specify that we have paid the full balance and that we do not owe anything else to Aloha. We are ready and waiting to make the exchange.

      Sincerely,

We have read the response from ***************** and dont feel that going back and forth with ********* is going to get us anywhere. I have attached the same invoice that ***************** has had and as you can see it contains everything he is asking for. We are willing to meet when and wherever to exchange. He can even mail it if he would like as the invoice is uploaded here for him to see and I could mail him a copy. The invoice was emailed to him as well.  I hope ***************** reaches out soon to solve this matter.

I am rejecting this response because: The attached invoice that I can see dated 7-20-22 is not itemized and has no completion date on it. I don't even see the last invoice that was given to us which had everything we needed except the "paid in full" zero balance upon exchange of the check. This is why we have not been able to resolve this as yet. We keep going in circles with the same information. Please get us the correct receipt and tell us who you will accept as a neutral third party to come and pay the balance in exchange for the information we need.

      Sincerely,

      Complaint: 17704958

I am rejecting this response because:  The attached invoice does not load. When you try to open it, it says "Error, Failed to load PDF". Also our insurance company contacted us this past weekend and I have attached the documents the property claims auditor sent us. The auditor called us because he said that he has not received the certificate of completion from the contractor (Aloha) nor an itemized documentation of what was done with the prices. The contractor (Aloha) has failed to return his phone calls so that is why he contacted us. The paperwork sent to the insurance company is attached to this response and is a blank contract with no prices or anything. The insurance auditor is requesting the same thing we have been asking for which is an itemized receipt which includes the prices so they can make sure that everything has been closed out and they do not need to pay out any additional funds. They also need the certificate of completion because it was never provided to them. Aloha keeps stating the invoice is the "same one they already gave us" but each time an invoice is presented it's a different one. Also, the original estimate from the adjuster for our insurance included new gutters, downspouts and also a repair/ replacement of our shed. Aloha asked us to send the document to them so they knew what work needed to be done for the money the insurance was paying. We never actually looked over the estimate because Aloha told us they would take care of everything. When the property claims auditor called he asked us if they did the gutters and shed and we advised they did not and we were not even aware that this was on the estimate from the adjuster. Aloha had all the paperwork and told us that the insurance wasn't covering new gutters and they never even mentioned the shed. We also have text messages that they tried to get us to pay $200 extra out of pocket for 2 roofing boards.

      Sincerely,
