We hired HomeWorks to build an addition, master suit with full basement onto our existing home. We were talked into a walk out basement and told the basement and first floor would be 8' in height. They did not measure correctly nor provide appropriate drawings to their subcontractor so the walls had to be cut down and now the basement is not the full 8' height. Now that the walk out is built, it is obvious that it should not have been built as the basement is 6' below grade and will be incredibly difficult to keep dry. They did not discuss changes with us before telling their contractors to move forward. When caught and pointed out I was gas lit and told I was making a big deal of nothing. The quality of work is lacking and the building inspector told us some items were out of compliance. While some things have been able to be fixed, others are not fixable. They have not delivered what was in the contract and have been unprofessional and difficult to work with through the process.

We did work for ****** ******.  There were confusions on the basement concrete work.  We went ahead and covered all of the extra costs that were incurred on the basement.  ****** has made it clear she did not have a good experience with HomeWorks and wants a credit.  I told her we were very sorry but there would be no credits as the work was done.  **** and ******** communicated a lot with ****** throughout the project.  We understand that she will not be a client in the future and she has paid in full and we have closed out this project.

I am rejecting this response because: The confusion on the basement was because they did not measure/measure correctly and provided the wrong drawings to the concrete contractor to begin with. While they did cover the cost of having the concrete cut to ensure the first level floors would line up, this does not fix the issue that now the basement is not the height we stated we wanted and what is written in the contract. The only reason this came up when the project was finished, is because when I asked earlier on, when the issues first began, to speak with ****** supervisor, I was told **** was the lead and didn't have a supervisor I could speak with. Only when I was withholding final payment because I was so unhappy did they provide me with the owner's email address. I had to pay in full in order to avoid a lien being placed on the home. I did speak with ****** who said she tried to have the owner call me, but he never called. While ******** communicated with me fine, **** was rude and unprofessional when he did communicate. The final room dimensions are not what the drawings show and the basement height is not what is stated, thus I am unsatisfied with their work and their response to my complaint.

My name is ****, and I am addressing the complaint as I was involved in this project from the start until Mrs. ****** requested that I cease communication with her, citing my alleged rudeness and unprofessionalism. I believe this characterization is inaccurate. Mrs. ****** was dissatisfied because I did not acquiesce to their requests, prompting them to approach the owner, who does not typically make decisions related to sales or production.
Integrating a new addition to an existing home presents inherent challenges, especially considering that the current house was built in 1950. We used 8-foot concrete walls for the basement; however, once the concrete floor was added, the effective wall height was reduced. To ensure a smooth transition from the existing house to the new addition, we had to trim a 1 7/8"  off the top of the walls. This adjustment was a miscalculation on our part, and the ******** incurred no costs for it.
Its important to clarify that the ******** were never promised a full 8-foot basement ceiling. The finished height is just over 7 feet 6 inches, which is standard for an 8-foot wall after pouring. Regarding the walk-out basement, we did not persuade Mrs. ****** to pursue this option. In fact, during a meeting with her and the concrete subcontractor, we used a laser level to advise against it due to the necessary excavation of about 6 feet. Despite our recommendation, she chose to proceed.
The subcontractor and I made it clear that substantial landscaping would be required to utilize the walk-out effectively. He even provided a bid for this work, but Mrs. ****** indicated they would handle it themselves with a tractor they owned. We are not aware of any code compliance issues associated with the project.
