I cannot rate Carguard even a one star. This auto warranty company is a sham. They find any excuse to not pay a claim. In my case I had an engine light go off and I went to my BMW certified mechanic who listed my chain drive as being stretched which could then lead to engine failure. I was terrified. When Carguard was contacted they said that I need a shop requiring ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification which my local mechanics did not have. They referred me down the street (no more than a mile and 1/2) which was verified by mileage to a dealer with the appropriate certification. Tanner Motors then did their own diagnostics and confirmed the timing chain guides requiring attention in addition to a leak in the turbo oil supply pipe and problems with the transmission pan gasket. All covered under warranty. Well this was denied they said I drove the car knowing there was a problem. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that of course we knew there were problems and that the problem was identified when it was driven as per instruction to find a shop with proper certification!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was this 1 and 1/2 mile drive down the road that they used to deny the claim. This is entrapment after just following instruction and never mentioning anything about towing, etc. Customer service at Nationwide who sold me the contract said that they dropped Carguard and selling polices through them 2 years ago after they began to notice a pattern of similar complaints and unsavory practices. PLEASE FUTURE CUSTOMERS DO NOT DEAL OR BUY A CARGUARD POLICY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To whom it may concern (BBB),
Ms. W***** purchased a vehicle service contract from Simple Save protection, on 02/24/2020 at 42,012 miles.
Ms. Water’s Repair facility called in a claim for a oil supply line, and a transmission pan gasket, in which we opened on 8/21/2024, After opening the claim and asking for a customer statement, we had denied the claim for failure to take immediate action per the customer statement.
Ms. W***** also had the timing chain called in by another repair facility as of 8/15/2024 at 73,521 miles, there has not been a record of the repairs being completed, the customer then had another repair facility call in for the same issues on 8/21/2024 at 74,414 miles, this is a difference of 893 miles. This is continued operation of an impaired vehicle.
Per section 3 of the Contract Holders Responsibilities:
Prevent Further Damage- Immediately take action to prevent further damage to Your Vehicle. The operator of Your Vehicle is responsible for observing Vehicle warning lights, gauges, and sensory items that indicate a potential Breakdown. Upon this observation, you must immediately arrange for the vehicle to be diagnosed. Failure to properly take this action may result in the denial of claims.
The customer should have ceased driving the vehicle and had it towed to the repair facility.

To Whom It May Concern: (BBB) The claim was denied for not following the Vehicle Service Contract terms and conditions. Denied for Continued operation/failure to take immediate action, per this service records that the customer sent in stated on 7/15/2021 the Rf told the customer the timing and balance chain needed replaced soon, she continued to drive for over 2 years and over 26K, and now the timing chain has broke and caused failure to the engine. Shiesty and underhanded. They denied my claim sighting an aftermarket reusable air filter when the air filter did not cause my mechanical failure for a lifter that is located deep down in the bottom of my engine as Dodge stated. I had every meticulous record of my vehicle and their attorney tried to tell me I needed a process done to change such air filter which I know factually would have voided my warranty. She was trying to intimidate me on a recorded line to lie so she could deny my claim because she knew the filter story was bogus. After arguing my facts, She sent out another adjuster and after 34 days of calling over and over and getting told I would receive a call back they said they are denying me because I had rain guards on my windows and cosmetic red caps on my volume knobs inside my car. RIDICULOUS!! They also said on a RECORDED LINE that they are cancelling my policy and that I need to call to cancel myself. My warranty states what is covered. Breakdown and/or Mechanical Failure means the failure of an original or like replacement part covered by this.to material failures, mechanical failures, or defects outside the manufacturer’s tolerance. As my estimate states from DODGE. Found misfire in cylinder 3 stored at check in, tech inspected vehicle, swapped plugs and coils, misfire remained in cyl 3.Tick noise appears to be coming from bank 1 left side)cylinder head. Removed driver side (left) cylinder head for inspection of lifters and camshaft. Found lifter in cylinder 3 seized which ground against the cam lobe. NOTHING TO DO WITH AN AIR FILTER. NOT COVERED Any aftermarket part or component that was installed in the Vehicle to replace an original manufacturer’s part or component that is salvaged or was not replaced in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended specifications. Any Breakdowns caused by any modifications, alterations, and/or additions to Your Vehicle. REUSUABLE AIR FILTER IS MADE FOR MY VEHICLE & DID NOT CAUSE THE MECHANICAL FAILURE.

To Whom It May Concern: (BBB) Mrs. purchased a Vehicle Service Contract from JR Industries, administered by CarGuard Administration, INC. Claim was called for check engine light on with a tick coming from the motor. Shop stated the camshaft, lifter, and VVT solenoid need replaced.
CarGuard Administration sent out an inspector to verify the failures and to make sure the vehicle was in compliance the Vehicle Service Contract terms and conditions. The first inspector verified the vehicle had an aftermarket cold air induction K&N kit modification a performance modification, aftermarket wheels and tires, aftermarket rear diffuser, engine dress-up kit. Per the Vehicle service contract modifications and aftermarket components are excluded from the contract.
SECTION V. EXCLUSIONS – WHAT IS NOT COVERED
Also not covered are any emissions and/or exhaust systems modifications, engine
modifications, transmissions modifications, and/or drive axle modifications, which
      includes any performance modifications.
Any aftermarket part or component that was installed in the Vehicle to replace an
original manufacturer’s part or component that is salvaged or was not replaced in
accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended specifications.
Customer disputed the denial, so a second inspector was sent out to take a further look into the failures, the second inspector then verified with the shop that the failure was also due to wear and tear. The claim was denied for a second reason as wear and tear is excluded from the contract.
SECTION V. EXCLUSIONS – WHAT IS NOT COVERED
Breakdowns that have occurred due to Wear and Tear.
The claim was denied in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Vehicle Service Contract between the consumer and JR Industries.

The service contract starts out with all they cover then under the Exceptions Clause it virtually negated every car part imaginable. We just cancelled on.Dec 29th. Fortunately we havent been with them that long. I had no warning lignts, guages or other indicators. We just noticed the car was taking longer to warm up. We immediately called for a diagnostic appt then called CarGuard Administration. Their adjuster wanted time to fine a cheaper replacement part, then they denied the claim for driving the car. Neither the agent with Emulate nor CarGuard told me not to drive the car between the claim on Dec 15th and thr diagnostic on Dec 26th. Service contract is full of contradictions.

As stated in my complaint, the vehicle produced no warning lights, codes, or other dshboard indicators. Customer made an appt with Whitten Brothers Mazda on Dec. 15th for diagnosis and that was also reported to CarGuard Admin that same date. Car could not be seen until Dec 26th. Mechanic was called if it was safe to drive the car and was told it was, provided the car showed no engine warning.ligjts or codes, or ither warning indicators, which it has not to-date. Neithet CarGuard, nor Emulate Agent advised Customer to immediately have the car towed or to stop driving given the lack of engine warning or other warning signals. Customer took it upon herself to have the car looked at as preventative maintenance. CarGuard adjuster initially approved repair but asked to find a.cheaper part. That decision was negated and Customer was told it was because she drove the car 310 miles since June. Customer was not under CarGuard or Emulate sevice contract in June.

I had an awful experience with this company. I initially purchased a warranty through Legion Auto Protection Services in August 2020, which I paid off in March 2022. For the first time in October of 2023, my car's engine light came on and went off. The following week, it came on again and we took the car to the Chevy dealership. We were told the problem was the camshaft and they would call the warranty company (CarGuard Administration). I emailed CarGuard Administration the maintenance reports they requested. It took them almost two weeks before they told Chevrolet they were denying the claim because I told them I was driving the car. What they didn't know is that my husband and I have another car. He is retired and I work from home. I sent them an email with the proof of the other car, because we took it to get the oil changed during the time the Malibu was at the dealership. I asked them to refund me all of the money I paid ($3,100) and they sent me a check for $529.77. Needless to say, we paid the $2,100+ to get our car fixed. I am so annoyed I am seeing stars. I am not going to let it go.

To Whom It May Concern, the customer stated the check engine light had been on intermittently for months. The claim was denied per the contract, customer responsibilities. Customer did not take immediate action to address the check engine light, furthermore the customer continued to drive the vehicle per the customer admission on a recorded line.

CarGuard Administration handles claims processes for Seller of the Vehicle Service Contract, we do not issue refunds. The customer was refunded by the seller of the Vehicle Service Contract (Auto Protection Services).

Give me a break with your generated response. Half of the truth is not the truth. You did not refund me my full payment of $3100. You don't issue refunds? At least that statement is the truth. Your warranty company definitely is NOT the truth! You are ripoff artists. The only warranty that anyone should use is the warranty through the dealership. Signed, Cheryl O.

Dont mess with this company, they take your money and when it time to get your car fix they dont come through. My rear differential needed replaced or fix and it took two weeks for them to deny my claim. They wanted maintenance reports for oil change which I provided them and that doesnt have anything to do with the rear differential, that was just an excuse for them not to pay my claim. I want all of my money back that I gave them I was three months away from paying off this plan and this was the first time i submitted a claim and they denied me for no reason at all. They said, my oil changes was over the mileage of getting it changed, my husband changed my oil sometime and why does that matter, it doesnt have anything to do with my rear differential.

Stay away from this company! I was told 7 major lies regarding the process with them. 1. That they would find an ASE certified mechanic for you to go to - incorrect, you have to find them and ensure it's the shop that's ASE certified. 2. That due to me calling in and stating that the first mechanic it was sent to was shady, that they would cover towing to the new mechanic - incorrect, came out of my pocket.3. Motor ******* Services, and the mechanic has verified the broken part, and verified that its covered under my plan and they should be covering it. They will not cover it. 4. Not only on the call with ********* director ******* but the call with MVS, there was a discusaion of an email between the two where ******* stated that the issue to my vehicle was preexisting prior to the mechanic reaching out or the inspector viewing the vehicle. Receipt of last service request was shared with them stating no preexisting issues.5. After calling MVS to cancel policy due to the unprofessionalism, I was told that they weren't covering my claim due to the incorrect date. The rep I spoke with incorrectly (or knowingly) wrote 5/18 instead of the correct date 6/18, which when this was brought to there attention, i requested the director ******* to review the recorded call, it was confirmed I said 6/18.6. Promised a rental vehicle... you don't get that until your claim is approved, which will probably not happen.7. Once I spoke with the director *******, which I had asked to speak to several times prior, she stated information that did not add up, I questioned her, and she told me I was twisting her words and she would call me back the next day. I had to call in two days later. She didn't get on the phone but I was told that she was just now reviewing it. She then decided to leave a voicemail stating the same information as two days prior. It has been 2 months without a vehicle and they have the worst customer service. No compensation for the misinformation.

To Whom it may concern BBB, ******************** purchased a *************** Contract from Motor ***************s, administered by CarGuard Administration. The claim called in was for a failed Engine. Once the repair facility called in the claim, we got the customers statement as to what was going on in her own words, the *** typed the wrong date, this was addressed and corrected, we received the customers service records and they were reviewed. After reviewing an inspector was sent as the repair facility stated that the engine oil cooler was leaking and the engine had overheated causing the failure to the engine, The inspector found the vehicle over heated causing the manifold to melt to the engine block, also stated in the inspection is that the oil filter housing is leaking not the oil cooler, the oil filter housing is not listed for coverage in the *************** contract that the customer purchased from Motor ***************s. The claim was then denied for a non-coverable part causing the failure. ****************************** ***

I purchased warranty protection and when my motor blow out that denied coverage on cost to fix my car. They stated the wrong oil was being put in and I went to a facility to have this done. I reached out to them as well and they stated they put the oil the was recommended from their system. I am still paying car notes on a car thats not drivable and I feel I should not be responsible for getting my car fixed. The place that did the oil change is Havoline (now Grease Monkey) in ******, **. If warranty denies fixing the problem I feel as though I should receive all payments made to them back to my account.I drive an Infiniti QX30 and those motors are not cheap. On top of checking Ubers daily back and forth to work or unnecessary rental expenses. At this point I dont know what to do about this. Very unsatisfied with results.
