On 7-28-2022 I had a dental checkup and gave the office my new insurance card. I was also charged $69.20 on my credit card. In November I received a statement for $276 indicating that the claim did not go through. So I called the office and gave them my insurance information. In December I received a statement again for $276. I went to the office and was told they would file my insurance and they copied my insurance card. In February a debt collector contacted me saying I owed $276. I went to the office again and got a copy of the claim from the receptionist who filed the claim while I was there. I noticed the information on the claim was wrong. The group and company were my old insurance. I called and they refiled the claim and it finally went through. The office owes me $69.20 as the Insurance EOB states that I owe nothing to the dentist. * ******* ***** *** ** ******* ** ******* ***

    **********  ************ ********** * ****** ******** ******* ****

This correspondence is regarding complaint #******** for consumer ***** *******  The dental office made several attempts to receive correct reimbursement from *** ****** and his insurance company.  The last correspondence sent to *** ***** on 12/31/2022 stated that his balance was still outstanding and to reach out to the dental office by 1/17/2023 to resolve this.  *** ***** did not respond to the office until he was notified in February 2023 that his balance was forwarded to our collection agency.

The office was courteous enough to put a hold on the collection proceedings to allow time for the insurance company to process the resubmitted claim.  To date, no payment has been received by the dental office for this balance.  If a payment is received and the explanation of benefits states the patient over paid, *** ***** will be issued a reimbursement.

Please note:  an insurance policy is an agreement between the insurance company and the policyholder, not the insurance company and the provider of service.  Therefore, the patient is responsible for any charges incurred regardless of insurance payments.  The office chooses to file the claims as a courtesy for patients.

There was never any attempt to defraud *** ***** as he states in his complaint.

If I can be of further assistance in this matter, please reach out to me.

    Professionally,

    Customer response

    02/21/2023

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

My Insurance company never received a claim until Mid February 2023 only after I went back to the office a 2nd time.   Klein Dental had my correct insurance information since July 2022 and chose to never file a claim with my insurance but instead file a debt collection against me.  Now that the claim was finally filed in February 2023, the processed claim indicates that Klein dental in fact would owe me $69.  As of this date I have not received a corrected statement or a refund.

I gave Klein Dental my insurance information on these dates:

    1.  Date of Service 7-28-2022.

    2.  Over the phone in November 2022 after I received a statement from them.

    3.  I went to Klein Dental office and in person presented them with my insurance information in December 2022 after receiving a new statement from them.  At that time they told me NOT to pay the bill but that they would file the insurance.  However they did not file the insurance until February 2023 after a debt collection demanding $276 was sent to me.

I have already provided documents that prove my complaint.

    Regards,

    ***** ******
