I visited Compass Medical in ******, ************* for a physical exam. Following my visit, I received a surprise bill for a normal office visit in addition to the preventive care visit and lab fee on the same day, despite the total visit lasting less than 15 minutes. I believe this billing practice is unfair, unjustified, and violates the No Surprises Act for surprise billing.During the physical check, the doctor initiated a conversation about my health history, which lasted less than a minute, which he knew was not covered in the physical exam, but did not inform me. My total physical exam lasted less than 15 minutes, and I had not planned on discussing any pre-existing conditions on that day.I did not receive any notification from the doctor or staff ahead of time that I would be billed for a normal office visit, nor was I aware that discussing my health history and ordering additional tests would result in an additional charge. Never heard any of my friends got billed for a separate office visit during their physical exams. I had a urine test under the same medical provider as part of my annual physical check in 2021, and that doctor did not charge me for any additional fee. I find it unreasonable that this new doctor charged me $170 for a one-minute conversation and test ordering, especially since ordering tests is a normal part of the physical exam process.I believe that the office's billing practice is abusive and goes against the principles of fair pricing in healthcare. I am requesting your assistance in resolving this matter. I am not seeking to dispute the urine test fee, which I have already paid, but I do not agree with paying the "normal office visit" charge.Just because they are not obligated to inform me that they will charge additional fees for discussing health history during the physical exam doesn't mean it's morally right to do so. It appears that the doctor is manipulating the system to generate more revenue.Thank you for your help.
