I planned a vow renewal trip two years ago (2023) for our 25th year anniversary. The trip money was due February 15 2025 which was the day to cancel by for a full refund. I canceled January 10 2025 due to me having cancer and having to go through chemo treatments at the time that our trip would have been occurring. The trip was paid in full by me way ahead of time in the amount of $3,461.70. My travel agent **** advised me that refunds would be 45 to 60 days out from date of cancellation. We are well past those 60 days, but I have not heard anything, despite me reaching out to **** and requesting update. She advised me several times that she would check the status but has never gotten back with me. Furthermore, when I emailed her and go to my emails all of the emails I sent her have now disappeared. I have also left her messages and she has not returned my call. Guests have also left her messages and she has not returned their calls. I reached out to customer service and left a voicemail and an email and no one has yet to return my call. **** was very active when this was an active Trip and responses were really fast. Now all of a sudden I can barely get her to respond because the trip is canceled. It is not my fault that I came down with cancer and have to have chemo treatment and had to cancel this trip. It is not what I wanted, but my health is first. I would like a full refund of this cancelled trip and for someone to reach out to me to give me the status ASAP.Initial Complaint

The travel agent did not communicate properly for the year of the upcoming wedding. I reached out to the agent and communication was very spotty, rude, and inconsistent. I asked to modify my reservation and at first the agent refused. When I asked to cancel, she then was able to make the changes. After making the changes, she was supposed to provide a refund and the new invoice. When I reached out a couple of weeks later for the refund and invoice, she refused my refund. The travel plan protection that I purchased on the original plan said that I could make changes to the reservation and I would be able to cancel up to 24 hours before and get a refund. When I addressed the agent, she said she would give me a travel credit. The agent then responds that I canceled instead of modifying. The protection plan did not say I would not be able to make changes or that changes are cancellations, or that I would only get credit. Also, the price I was charged for the travel plan was different than the ones offered and explained. At this point, 2 months later, the agent is not responding to me at all. The receipt shows that my modifications are less than the original charge.I contacted my credit card company and they will not give me a refund cause they said the merchant has the opportunity to provide a refund and they say that the receipt is not clear enough to say why they charged me different prices so they cannot interfere.Business Response

We were invited to a wedding via destinationweddings.com. Due to my husband having ***********, it took awhile to determine if we could attend. I went on the site Oct. 4, 2024 to book the rooms. Everything went smooth, we chose our option, pressed select, and entered our credit card number acknowledging $1434. The confirmation email did not indicate there would be an issue; therefore, we purchased airline tickets about an hour later. The next afternoon (32 hours later), I received an email stating that price was expired and I needed to pay $1980.16 (an additional $545)! I reached back to ********* repeatedly asking for a resolution and/or a contact number for someone handling this facility, etc... They have now dismissed me, I am stuck with plane tickets, a very upset (*********** affected) husband, no accommodations, and no management contact.Business Response

Destination Weddings stated their specialist and customer service team are actively working on a favorable solution. Their action is to simply continue offering me the $1980.16 price and now will not even guarantee what kind of a room I will get for that price - how is this working for a favorable solution? In addition, they state they encourage me to communicate directly - I have responded promptly to each email, whereas I do not receive prompt responses nor options for 17 days. This is not a resolution in any sense of the word. Thank you.

Unfortunately,, they never attempted to negotiate or acknowledge their action of not honoring the offer provided. The price increase of nearly 150% was out of my price range!!I find it sad that their misleading site led to the sheer disappointment in my husband as this was to be a trip of a lifetime. Even sadder is a company that reacted on the dismissive level without a feeble attempt to find common ground.*****Initial Complaint

I am writing to formally request assistance with a trip I need to cancel due to an unexpected layoff from my job. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to afford the trip I had booked and planned to take, as my financial situation has drastically changed. When I initially booked this trip, I did not anticipate this situation, and as such, I did not opt for travel protection, as I had every intention of going on the trip.On December 22, 2023, I selected Affirm installment payments to finance the trip in the amount of $2,226 so far I have paid $1,789.50. Given my current financial hardship, I kindly ask that you consider my situation and assist me with either a cancellation and refund, or any other possible resolution that could help alleviate the financial burden of this trip.I sincerely hope that you can understand the difficult position I am in and assist me with this matter. Please let me know the next steps in the process.Thank you for your time and consideration.Business Response

Hi, was attending a destination wedding for a family member. They booked everything through destination wedding. They just called off the wedding. I want my money back and I have to wait minimum 30 days because they do not want to process my claim individually. I told them I felt it was not fair for me, not to get paid back for the entire purchase because I did not cancel my trip. The wedding was canceled. I agreed to not get fully embed because of the $510 on the insurance. Do not wanna wait more than 30 days a refund theyre going to credit my credit card. I want it to be done sooner and they refused to.Customer Answer

I did get a response back, but am not happy with the out come. I feel it is NOT my fault that the wedding was cancelled. I should not be out of the ****** for traveler insurance. I did not cancel the trip. Regardless why would I go ? I was only going because of the wedding.

Last week i got a call for my specialist ********************************** saying the resort closed and they want to move me to another. After reviewing the other i decided i did not like it at all. So i requested a refund for my guest and I because i dont want to pay for something i dont like when it isnt my fault it got closed. They are trying to penalize me as if i cancelled for no reason when really what i booked and paid for isnt available any more. They are dragging the process out, not getting back to me via email and not answering the phones. I need this resolved so i can book the other resort i want to ensure i get the same date. I also uploaded a picture of the part in my contract where it stayed it will result in no penalty.Business Response

We originally purchased accommodation at an all inclusive through destination weddings.com due to a family wedding in ******. We paid in full for the accommodation (all inclusive resort) and purchased the offered travel insurance. Unfortunately the couple has cancelled the wedding - so we no longer need this accommodation. We have cancelled the reservation however we are now being told that we purchased a specific type of travel insurance that we were unaware was different than the insurance listed on our invoice. We are being refused a refund which is listed as the resolution for the cancellation on our invoice as well. There has been no assistance or compassion from the company and we are now only eligible for a travel credit according the the company - even though this is not what we discussed or believed we were purchasing in the beginning, again, due to the nature and wording on the invoice which we were sent several times. It was not our decision to cancel the wedding, and even if we wanted to go through with the reservation we wouldnt be able too as the resort itself revoked our room rate. So we would have no ability to follow through with the paid in full vacation anyway.Business Response

Destination Weddings appreciates the follow-up regarding the trip credit. We offer two types of insurance options with every trip purchased. One option allows the customer to receive cash back minus the cost of the protection plan, and the other option offers a trip credit for future travel use. Attached is the information as it was available to the customer when booking the room. The second screen shot that is available shows the three options that were available for the customer to select. The second option was clicked off and you will find in writing there that this option does not offer cash back.Customer Answer

Destination Weddings offers two insurance plans at the time of booking. One being a cash back option and one being a credit option. This customer had purchased the insurance plan at a lower cost to allow them to receive a credit should they need to cancel their trip. We have followed up and are issuing this customer their future trip credit, per the insurance plan that was purchased by the customer. We are unable to offer a cash back refund.

On August 22nd, 2023 I received an invitation to a Friend's wedding with destinationweddings.com for November 12th, 2024. It wasn't until February 22nd, 2024 that I inquired about the price of renting a single room for myself and I received the room estimate of $1,559.34 and I was asked to make a $100 non-refundable deposit (viewable here *****************************************************************************************************************) of which I never paid. On February 27th, 2024 I received a reminder to pay the room's invoice, to which I replied stating that I'd like to change my reservation to share a room with another wedding attendee named ***************************************. Then on April 10th I received another request to pay the balance of which I replied that I'll be sharing with *****. On that same day, April 10th, I received confirmation that the invoice being billed to me was cancelled. Finally, today, May 2nd, ****** was billed an invoice of $3740.39 and asked me to pay half of $1870.35. After considering it I decided I would not go. Now destinationweddings.com is stating that I am required to pay $229.99 for insurance. The destinationweddings.com representative ***************************** left me a voicemail saying that I must pay it. Here is the voicemail: ********************************************************************************** I do not feel required to pay anything. I did not sign anything. Myself nor *************************************** need to be held responsible for this.Business Response

I purchased a trip with trip insurance and paid a deposit of $562. I cancelled within the 60 day period on 2/7/24 and was told that my $562 refund would be issued within 30 days, by 3/8/24. I have that in writing from the company. It is now 3/21/24 and I have not received a refund and cannot get in touch with anyone from the company. I have emailed and called and have not gotten a response since 3/7/24 telling me to "check and see if it shows up tomorrow and if not let me know and I will send another request." This is absurd and I want my money back ASAP.Business Response
