It's the old bate and switch with Monster. I put an ad on monster to hire one positions for my company. I had top create a draft to even see pricing. Once I saw the cost was $45 per day I knew I could not afford that and I left the website. Shortly after that a Monster *** called me (and called and called) and I told her I couldn't afford the price. She proceeded to tell me about the $299 per month plan. She indicated I could post as many jobs as I wanted to, I would get qualified candidates and that she would help make sure my ads were successful. This was on a Friday. By Monday I was getting emails indicated I was out of connects and I would be charged for any additional "clicks". I was so disappointed because this wasn't at all what I was told. I encourage you to pull the phone conversation and listen to what I was told. Its very different via phone than e-mail and I regret even picking the phone up. I was very pleased with this plan at first. I ended up getting a three day posting with two unqualified applicants. I requested a refund as this service didn't deliver at all what it said it would. I was offered an "additional" 100 connects to make things better but one day of posting and my credit card being at risk I decided to close the jobs as I cannot risk Monster charging me for additional services I did not get. I feel like I was scammed into signing up. I couldn't afford $45 per day but was told the $300 would last all month and my connects would last and that's the only reason I signed up. I am a one person business and have no funding. I have to determine what will work best for me. Now, I am behind on recruiting and down $299.I am requesting a full refund and my account confirmed as closed.

I have reviewed the customer's complaint and her account activity.  Unfortunately, I agree that the results of her job ads were not great, but Monster agreements do not include a satisfaction guarantee.  Monster provided this customer with access to our website where she posted 3 job ads, the first of which received 82 clicks from job seekers and 1 applicant, the second of which received 65 clicks and 2 applicants, and the third received 42 clicks and 0 applicants. When notified that the job ads were not producing the expected number of applicants, we also provided the customer with 100 additional free clicks, which avoided an overage charge.  I wish the customer had received more applicants, but Monster did its job by providing the customer with the ability to post her jobs and she did receive a number of clicks from interested job seekers and 3 applicants. Therefore, we do not believe that a refund is in order.

Better Business Bureau:I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # ********.

The complaint is around the information I was given by the account manager. She bombarded me with promises via phone to get me to sign up. She told me she would make sure I had qualified candidates for the positions that I was going to post. I specifically told her I could not afford the $45 per day and she pushed me into the 299 plan and made promises that were not in fact true. She would never put anything in writing but promised she would take care of me and lead the account and would make sure I had candidates. She always wanted me to call her and never put anything in writing. I stopped having communications live because what she was sending me wasnt what she told me. I encourage you to full pull phone record so you can see and listen to the exact conversation that was had. This is fraudulent. She made me promises via phone that she was not able to fulfill. Once I signed up my money and credits were gone in a matter of days. I would like a refund. I specifically told her I cant afford $45 a day and now Im $300 in the hole and she did not do anything she said she was going to do. Making promises via phone and then not pulling through is behavior that is unethical. This is fraudulent and scam like behavior.

Monster stands by our initial response.  We provided the services purchased by this customer.  In looking at the customer's account, we don't have a record of calls made by her sales person, but have a record of her complaints to our **************** team.  The service teams response to the customer was geared toward education about the product she purchased by providing an explanation on how the pay per click model works and providing guidance on how to cancel to avoid further charges.  She then cancelled the jobs and downgraded the account from "Pro" to Free.  As stated in the initial response, we do not feel that a refund is called for in this case.

On 2/19/2025 I purchased a job posting on Monster. I paid extra for thier services that provide vetted applicants that meet the job criterior. I received a list of thier potential applicants and none of them had anything to do with the job we had listed. There were views on the job posting but they were unable to give me any additional information on applicants. Less that 24 hours later I called to cancel the service, they are unable to fufil thier promiss to provided candidates that are in the field of law. We want a full refund.

This customer purchased a thirty (30) day Premium Job Ad (***) that Monster agreed to distribute or promote across channels which included the Monster website, Monsters network sites, and one or more Social Networks.  The *** also included Monsters ************************** which is an automated matching process based on the job title and location of the job.

The customer received 20 Recommended Resume matches from the job posting.  The job was for a Paralegal and the matches were Paralegals.  However, from the complaint, none of the automated matches were acceptable to the customer.  The customer then decided to cancel the *** less than 24 hours after it was posted, although it was eligible to run for 30 days.

Our **************** representative responded to the customers initial complaint and let them know that the job posting received 30 views in less than a day. Unfortunately, as stated above, the customer chose to delete the job before candidates could find and apply to it.

There are no performance guarantees in Monster agreements other than providing services in a professional manner in accordance with prevailing industry standards.  Monster has provided the services purchased by the customer in a professional manner in accordance with prevailing industry standards and Monster does not believe that a refund is appropriate.

The response was not accurate, there were 20 views, the issue was that this was suppose to go across multiple social media platforms and a veterns network, that sis not happen.  In addition the 20 resumes that they provided had nothing to do with the job description, they may thing that a medical office receptionist can also be a seasoned Paralegal but we dont.  I canceled the ad while on the phone with a customer Service representative that advised me to do so.  I later got an email stating they would not issue a refund.  This had nothing to do with me not waiting for responses, this is Monster blatantly lying.

As a part of Horizon Payments, we have been using the Monster platform since May of 2023. We are on our second contract period that commenced in May of 2024. In this time we have made a total of around $50,000 in installment payments to use the services offered. Everything was satisfactory until August 22nd of 2024. On that date there were changes made to our active account that caused the number of applicants to be reduced by 80%-90%. We did not request changes, no communication of changes that were being made, nor were any changes to the account necessary. With the data we track as clear proof that something changed (See Attachment), I contacted Monster customer service to find root cause and corrective action. It's now the third week of December and the communication on Monster's behalf has almost completely stopped. We worked for a couple of months to get to the cause of the reduction it was determined, and communicated to us, that Monster made unwarranted changes. Being that the first 15 months of our partnership with Monster yielded adequate, measurable, and consistent numbers 80%-90% higher than after the change was made we requested to have our monthly rate reviewed and adjusted to mirror the change in production. When that was requested is when their communication became very sparse, not helpful, and nothing to address a fix to the changes that were made without our knowledge completely. When a phone call was requested then the only communications we received was to say they were getting availability of the relevant personnel. That was over a month ago and absolutely no communication to schedule a call, offer a resolution, or any further communication that brought any value to the situation. I used the analogy, if you were leasing a vehicle for 15 months with no issues from either side. You go to drive your car one day to find the bank took everything but a door, a tire, and a bumper. Would it be reasonable to expect you to pay the same monthly payment?

    Business Response

In response to the claims made in the BBB complaint, please note that Monster made no changes to this customers specific account on August 22, 2024.  However, a review of the customers account shows that last year they purchased 500 Standard Job Ads and 50 Premium Job Ads (PJAs) and were posting nearly 50 jobs per month. Under the new contract, effective on May 23, 2024, the product mix changed to 150 PJAs with no Standard Job Ads, and the customer is currently posting approximately 12 jobs per month. We also noted that from 2023 to 2024, the customers overall volume of jobs posted has dropped significantly, and in 2024, month over month, there is a continuous downward trend in the number of job postings made.  Obviously, less job postings means less candidate views and applications.

Monster believes that there are a number of factors involved in the reduction of applicants received by the customer:

The customers choice to change the product mix from Standard Jobs in the previous contract to Premium Jobs in the current contract probably affected the customers application rate.

The fact that the customer was also changing the location of live jobs versus posting new jobs likely caused a reduction in response rate as the changed jobs will explicitly not refresh.

There was also a change made to Monsters job search engine in August, 2024.  This change was made to improve performance for both candidates and employers.

There are no performance guarantees in Monster agreements other than providing services in a professional manner in accordance with prevailing industry standards.  Monster has provided the services purchased by the customer in a professional manner in accordance with prevailing industry standards and there are no adjustments required under the terms of the agreement.

We apologize for the lack of communication in December. As stated above, we believe that we have some answers regarding the downward trend in applications and we hope to schedule a call to discuss these issues sometime in January.

Many of our customers purchase licenses to the ******************** database for use with recruiters based around the world (other than sanctioned countries).  Except for the sanctioned countries, Monster has no restrictions on where our customers operate from.  To limit unwanted contacts, you can change the visibility of your contact information by signing into your Monster account and selecting Visibility Settings.  There, you can change your resume to Private, meaning you will not be visible to recruiters in Monster's resume and profile database. However, you can still apply to jobs online using your private resume.

Was sold a 3 month contract with Monster to post jobs and resume search. Was told hobs would be posted to multiple and diverse sites and would receive 20 matches to each of the jobs. Posted over 100 jobs and have received no applicants (was getting ***** per day with their competition). Was told to use resume search. Found 2 resume matches to the jobs (384) on competition site. Sales person wont return calls, customer service cannot help and cannot get Patu the supervisor to call us back to cancel the remaining 2 months of our agreement. We have already paid $2500 for nothing-just wanting to cancel the remaining 2 months after finding out we were lied to-our jobs are only on their site and ****** supposedly-no where else per their team. They misled us in discussion and in writing and we are willing to compromise by not insisting on a refund for the first payment and release from the remaining 2 months.

    Business Response

Monster has reviewed the claims made in this complaint regarding a trial of Monster services. In response to the claims, please note the following:

The customer stated that the salesperson claimed that trial job ads would be posted to multiple and diverse sites and that the customer would receive 20 matches to each job.  The Monster salesperson denies making either statement.  The Monster Sales Order is also clear that the trial jobs were to be posted to Monster only: Boards = Monster.

The complaint also states that the salesperson and manager will not return phone calls.  Both the salesperson and the manager (supervisor) on this account stated that they have spoken with this customer and have discussed the issues with the job ads.  The manager for this account also had discussions with our customer service team seeking to improve the response to the job ads.  In fact, the complaint itself states that the customer was told information a number of times in an attempt to improve the trial results, but they claim that they were misled in discussion and in writing.  Monster rejects the statement that this customer was misled and lied to.  The fact is that Monster attempted to work with the customer to improve the results of the trial and the advice given by Monster was rejected.

Monster has provided the services listed on the Sales Order and has attempted to work with the complainant on its trial. There is no guarantee of results, nor is there a termination for convenience clause in the Monster *************** Agreement or the Sales Order.  As there was no material breach, Monster will not agree to terminate the Sales Order, and the remaining fees are due and payable as described in the Sales Order.

The only people that called us back were sales people who were unable to respond to our request for discussion with someone who could make a decision regarding the contract.  The person we spoke with yesterday was supposed to have someone from contract call us back today by 1130a CST.  We have yet to receive a call.  Ironic how they can reply to the BBB report, yet are unable to have the correct person from their organization contact us to work out a resolution.  We have been told for over a week that they were "working" on trying to make their product perform to the expectations set, yet there have been ZERO improvements made.  Their own website states that our jobs would be posted to multiple sites, yet that is not occurring.  ****** is one of those sites and multiple searches of ****** produce ZERO results from our jobs posted Monster when performed.  I have attached proof of that here.  The contract indicates that resume matches would be produced. There are no resume matches that are actually candidate resumes that meet the job title or description-truck drivers being matched to RN jobs.  They have already received $2500 for services that have not been rendered as promised.  We feel it a fair compromise to cancel the contract effective immediately with no further payments required.  They have not had the appropriate personnel handle this issue, nor have they provided any proof that what they sold is as actually what we purchased.  No qualified applicants, no qualified resume matches and no search results populating in ****** job searches.  It is only fair that resolution is to dissolve the contract and part ways to avoid further escalation of this issue.

    Business Response

Monster has reviewed the rejection and response by the customer. The customer has made a number of claims that are not correct, including that the jobs were supposed to be posted on other boards, including Google.  As stated in Monster's original response, the Sales Order is clear that the trial jobs were to be posted to Monster only, stating: Boards = Monster, and our website is also clear that Standard Jobs are posted to the Monster board only.  We also reject the customers statement that the contract includes resume matches, which were not provided.  There is no reference to resume matching in the Sales Order or MSA, and Monster has no product with that name.  As to the customer stating that inappropriate personnel were assigned, this account was escalated to a Senior Manager supervising the sales personnel involved with the customer early in the business relationship.

The customer also requests a resolution regarding the contract.  As stated in our original response, there is no guarantee of results, nor is there a termination for convenience clause in the Monster *************** Agreement or the Sales Order.  As Monster has provided the services purchased under the Sales Order, Monster will not agree to terminate the Sales Order, and the remaining fees are due and payable as described in the Sales Order.

Monster continues to deny what their own website proclaims regarding where jobs will be posted.  I have taken screen shots where multiple pages of their site state that jobs will posted to extensive sites with ALL plans.  This is a classic situation of bait and switch where all of their marketing and the sales pitch from their team, verbally telling you what you will get and what you want to hear and then once you sign, they claim that isn't what service is being provided.  To  mention resume matches isn't something they have is a direct falsehood.  The previous screenshots sent in the last exchange clearly show resume matches are supposed to be provided for jobs posted.  Monster sells something that they are incapable of providing and then is now using a scapegoat that they cannot guarantee anything and have no clause for termination, under any circumstances.  By it's very nature this is deceptive and an intentional attempt to lock businesses into paying for nothing, with zero recourse.  The upstanding and professional solution would be to release the remaining 2 months as we are no longer using their product due to it's lack of results and time wasted.  Again, we are asking for immediate termination, with the initial payment to serve as payment in full.  We have no jobs posted on the site any longer, are not using the resume search, nor will be logging onto the website any longer.

In October of 2023 I began job searching. I set up an account and submitted my resume to Monster.com. Soon after, I began receiving 10+ phone calls, followed by text messages and emails for unsolicited jobs a day. Many of the jobs were not applicable to me nor the state I live in. I have hit "unsubscribe" and "Stop" to them, in which I get the appropriate response. However, the phone calls continued, from the same people, different number. I tried blocking all the unknown numbers but had to take it off since I was missing important calls as well. We are going on 8 mos of these unsolicited calls. My information was sold to many companies, world wide! I get foreign names all the time from numbers within the **.

Monster.com stole my resume, cover letter, personal and private information and then sold it for profit. I never gave Monster my information. I am INUNDATED with legitimate and illegitimate/scams for jobs that arent even for a degree I have. Barrage of calls, texts, emails, over the course of several years. I have contacted them NUMEROUS times and they say they deleted my account but they have not. It is harassment! Not to mention theft! They are profiting off of my information! That is not okay! Please help me! I deserve reparations!

In response to the complaint, Monster never stole this persons resume, cover letter or personal and private information, nor did we sell any information for profit.  Monster also has no record of this person contacting us numerous times as described in the complaint.  The only record we have of any contact being made by this person was a single phone call from this week.  It was being reviewed when this parallel BBB complaint from the same person was received by Monster.

Monster reviewed all of the claims listed in the complaint and can find no record of a Monster account ever existing under this persons name or phone number.  Monster rejects all claims of theft, harassment and profiting from the sale of information as described in the complaint.

That information is false. Recruiters tell me they get my information from them, why would they lie? I have never had a recruiter tell me they got my information from any other source. They either decline to respond or tell me Monster. Recent history of contact was phone call and email. But this has been going on for YEARS. Im just not in a good enough place mentally to handle it. It is theft and it is harassment.

All information presented in Monsters initial response, and in this response, is true.  Monster does not steal personal information, nor does Monster harass individuals.  Monster also has no control over what recruiters have told this person, but Monster has reviewed its files going back years, and has no record of this person ever having a Monster account.

I am writing to file a formal complaint against Monster.com regarding their inadequate response to scam activity on their platform, which has resulted in significant harm to myself and potentially countless other users.Despite being made aware of the presence of scam companies targeting job seekers on their platform, Monster.com has failed to implement effective measures to address this issue. Specifically, they require users to have a job listing in order to report scam activity, which effectively ******* scam entities operating without legitimate job listings from accountability. As a result, I have personally been subjected to multiple instances of harassment and deceptive practices from scam companies on Monster.com, with no recourse for resolution through their platform. This failure to address the proliferation of scam activity not only undermines the trust and confidence of users but also poses a significant risk to the integrity of the job-seeking process on Monster.com.I urge the Better Business Bureau to investigate this matter promptly and take appropriate action to ensure that Monster.com implements robust measures to address scam activity on their platform and protect the interests of their users.

Please know that any Monster website visitor can report potential scams for investigation. In the Monster Home page footer, there are links for Job Seekers Help or *************** which lead to pages with options to Contact Support or Report Fraud. Those options link to the Monster contact us form at ********************************************************************************************** which has a Category drop-down with a Potential Fraud/Spam selection.

Monsters efforts to protect the security of our users take a number of different forms.First, Monster maintains user security by educating the public about online scams. Monster believes this is a critical part of the effort to stop cyber crime. Our efforts include on-site warnings found in the Monster.com *************** (located at ************************************************************).

Second,Monster dedicates a department to oversee compliance and fraud prevention efforts and police the Monster website for any potential misuse. Monster also employs a proprietary fraud detection tool in an effort to prevent fraudulent entities from accessing Monster services.

In addition to these proactive measures, Monster provides job seekers with three options regarding the accessibility of their resume. Among these options is a confidential resume, which hides personally identifiable information, such as name, contact information, or present employer information.

We do take customer complaints very seriously and will take appropriate action following an investigation of the facts underlying a complaint. We understand that this is a serious issue for you. You may rest assured that it is an issue of great concern for Monster as well, and that Monster will continue to take all reasonable measures to protect the safety of its users.

We have investigated the screenshot that was attached to the complaint. That message is from a verified employer customer. It appears the customer transferred a ******************** employer user account from one of their employees to another without properly updating the first/last name in the account settings. We are reaching out to the customer to assist with correcting the related name fields.

It is impossible to report fraud if it is not tied to a specific job listing. Monster's response does not provide a solution.

Monster stands by its original answer.  However, in response to the rebuttal comment: "It is impossible to report fraud if it is not tied to a specific job listing. Monster's response does not provide a solution.", Monster must state that this is not correct.  In the Monster Home page footer, there is a link for Job Seekers Help which leads to a page with a Contact Support button. That support option links to a form which has a Category drop-down with a Potential Fraud/Spam selection that does not require that the job seeker include a specific job listing.
