On Saturday, 11/26/2022, I had just purchased a vehicle from around the corner from this business, as there was a whole line of people there for the same thing. I was there to get the vehicle tags and title. The person helping me informed me that she was not able to complete the tags due to something being in the computer that needed to be fixed by the MVA. She then insisted that she could at least put the title paperwork in and stated that at least that part would be taken care of as she stated it takes 7-10 days for it to come in the mail. She insinuated that if I completed that today, it would make the process a bit easier. I agreed but then when I asked if I would need any of the papers when I go to the MVA to get the tags, she indicated I would not. Before leaving I asked for copies of the papers and a receipt and she only sent me a non-itemized receipt to my phone that did not really detail any of the transaction. None of the charges were made clear, when I asked why the title was that amount she simply stated "because of the sell price" and did not explain further. When I went to the MVA on Monday, 11/28/2022, I cleared up the computer issue the person informed me of at Epic but I was told I needed the title in order to get the tags. I called the person at Epic and she told me that there was nothing she could do and seemed annoyed at my inquiry. I asked if she could send copies, she declined. She then suggested that I come back up to them even though I have no ride and a car service would be over $50 each way as it is 17 miles from my house. I told her that was not an option for me. I was instructed that I would just have to wait for the title to come in the mail in 7-10 days. Meanwhile I have a car I bought because I had an urgent need for a vehicle and still cannot drive it for another week. I feel like she purposely did not honestly answer my question when I asked if I should wait and do it all at once-if the MVA would need the title.

    Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2022/12/09) */ This customers complaint is with the MVA not EPIC. Once we finalize a transaction MVA sends the title. Additionally she has flags against her drivers license. Again that is an issue between her and the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration, not EPIC. Once she clears her issues with the state of Maryland MVA will provide her documents. It is not an EPIC issue it's hers and MVA. In close she paid for a Title only transaction. She needs to pay for 30 day tags. Nothing to do with EPIC. Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2022/12/12) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The ONE issue with the MVA was cleared up and I was unable to get the rags because I was lied to by your employee who told me I would not need the title information to get the tags from the MVA. I asked for copies of the papers that were filed but denied. The MVA cannot fulfill a new tag request without a title to a vehicle - something I asked about and was lied to about by your employee. There were no issues with any of my documents. Lying to secure business is not ethical and is a shady business practice. Your employee obviously was trying to get me to come back to your place of business 15 miles away from where I live and obviously cannot drive there myself due to the issue with getting tags from the MVA. That's not ethical.Had your employee been truthful and told me I would need the title information and to just do it at the same time with the MVA, I would not have been made to wait 2 weeks for the title to be sent! Instead she told me it would "speed up the process" and because I was made to wait, I missed the vehicle's warranty because I could not drive it to get the engine checked out!
