I paid off a loan early with Mariner Finance. (I believe it was back in 2020) There was no early payoff penalty. It was for a golf cart.A few years later I received a "late payment" notice.I knew I wasn't late because I paid the loan off in full.I called anyway to ensure I didn't misunderstand or make a mistake. They told me it was their error; my loan was PIF but, asked if I needed any further loan assistance.I said no thank you. 5 years later and I am still getting "late payment" notices in the mail and a ton of phone calls.I called them again to inquire and this time they told me although they did receive my PIF payment I still owed $9.00. At first, I thought they were joking. She said that since I mailed my last payment to a different address, it was late, hence the $9.00 penalty.I NEVER used different or multiple addresses when I mailed in my payments. Why would I? That is ridiculous and just doesn't make sense. My credit score is impeccable because I pay all my bills early, I'd like to keep it that way. Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you for contacting us.  Mariner Finance, LLC (Mariner) takes customer concerns seriously, and our ***************************** has thoroughly researched this complaint.  ******* ******** entered into a Retail Installment loan with S2 Golf Cart Solutions on May *******, for the purchase of a golf cart, and the executed contract was assigned to Mariner for servicing.  In her complaint, Ms. ******** states that she was assessed a $9 fee for mailing her intended payoff to Mariners corporate office.  However this is inaccurate.  On February 10, 2021, Mariner received a mailed check labeled paid in full in the amount of $1234.72. At the time the check was received, the amount required to pay the loan in full was $1243.72, resulting in a $9 short pay.  This amount received paid the account ahead to January 26, 2024, but did not pay the loan in full.  A review of the account confirms ********************** made attempts to contact Ms. ******** regarding the paid ahead account and remaining balance.

Because it appears Ms. ******** did attempt to pay her account in full, and just made a simple error in inverting the numbers on her intended payoff check, as a one-time courtesy Mariner has waived the remaining loan balance, and closed the account as of February 10, 2021.  A manual update request has been sent to the nationwide credit reporting agencies to ensure the information is consistent.  Please be advised that requests of this nature may take up to thirty (30) days to process.

We appreciate Ms. ********* business and the opportunity to address her concerns.  Should she have additional questions regarding the matter, she may contact Mariners ***************************** at ************.

My husband and I had a loan with Mariner Finance that we paid off on time and early. When I applied for another loan it was told that the loan was denied and I was not given a reason. I called and complained and was told that the application wasn't really denied at that point and was told that someone would call me back. The next day I called again and was told that the application was denied. I don't think that my application was ever really considered. Mariner never put my good payment history on my credit report, only on my husband's, but expected me to be a responsible party to pay for the loan. Had it not been paid off well they would definitely have placed a bad report on my record. I think that they have very bad lending practices and that they discriminated against me.

Thank you for contacting us. Mariner Finance, LLC (Mariner) takes customer concerns seriously, and our ***************************** has thoroughly researched this complaint.

Per our review, ********** applied for credit with Mariner Finance, LLC (Mariner) on March 17,2024.  After having submitted the initial application information, Ms. ******** application was denied due to delinquent past or present credit obligations with others and prior collection action or judgments against her.  An adverse action notice was mailed to Ms. ******* on March 18, 2024, detailing the factors that contributed to the credit decision

We would like to remind Ms. ******* that her previous loan in which she was the co-borrower, not only had a second signer, but was also secured by an automobile.  Ms. ******* declined to add a co-borrower with her most recent application.  At this time we are unable to approve Ms. ******** application for credit, but invite her to apply with us in the future, should her situation change.

Reporting accurate data is an essential obligation of data furnishers under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.  Mariner makes accurate account information available to the Credit ****************** (CRA)on a monthly basis, and each CRA has its own internal policies that determine how the information is displayed in the credit report.  Based on a review of Ms. ******** closed account, the information furnished by Mariner to the nationwide credit reporting agencies is accurate and reflective of the account activity and payment history.  ****************** have additional questions regarding this matter, we ask that she contact Mariner's ***************************** at ************.

      Complaint: 21460008

I am rejecting this response because: The representative at Mariner asked me if I owned a vehicle. I informed her that I owned a 2024 *** X1 M35i. And that there are no payments or liens on it. She never took my vehicle ownership into consideration for a loan. Yes, I was a co-signer on the previous loan that we both paid on time and paid off entirely before time. If I was partiallly responsible for paying the loan back, then I should also get the credit for paying it on time each month, and paying it off before time. If we had not paid it off, Mariner would have held me responsible as well as my husband. Why would Mariner rely on my past credit history to determine if I will pay them, when I have already proven that I will pay them, due to my past payment history with them? I feel that this was an unfair, discriminatory decision.

      Sincerely,

      ******** *******

I am rejecting this response because: Mariner Finance never considered that I have collateral to cover a loan. I was asked if I owned my own vehicle and I told the representative yes, I own a 2024 *** X1 M35i. However, this was never considered. My partner of 30 years passed away on Jan 6, 2024. He had made an extra payment to Mariner Finance, LLC. They sent a refund check made out to ********** Of. There was no estate. Mariner Finance fraudulently reported a high balance on 2/29/24 after receiving a large payment on 2/23/24. They reported to Experian and Equifax that I had a balance of $4279 as of 2/29/24, but did not reflect they had a check cleared for S3879.74 on 2/23/24. Also, on 3/6/24, they also fraudulently reported "NO FUNDS" to the Prince ******* County District Court to manipulate the court to make it appear as though I am irresponsible. As a NAVY vet., they scheduled a court date on Memorial Day in 2022, which they never corrected before the court date. They were unresponsive and apathetic to me taking of my elder mother while going through bouts with dementia (who died March 2022). My credit report shows they were the ONLY creditor that refused to work me and with my efforts to be responsible for the debt owed. I think I have suffered damages for 4 years.

Mariner Finance LLC persist in fraudulently denying they have received $3789.74 from me on my credit reports too. See recent Experian dispute results from 3/14/24. The last time they did this it was to manipulate the judge to seize my checking account as if I were not wanting to pay them or was not cooperating.

First. My name is ***** ****** with no middle initial not ****** *****. Please correct your records asap!

This letter to the cfpb was yet another form of financial responsibility defamation. Note: In the last 4 years, they are the ONLY creditor on my credit report that refused to work with me per my actual financial hardship condition and ignored any reasonable communication to achieve their obvious end 31% interest, by any means necessary. It makes it appear like I simply refused to communicated with them about the debt and I had no hardship situations to navigate like COVID and a sick elderly mother where I was the only relative living close to her and took care of her at another location (wanting her independence). Not that I have paid them, they are making it seem on my credit and with the judge in the district court like I still have not paid them close to $4000. This shows an incessant history of sharing fraudulent information (like a miserable and disgruntled ex-wife) in cahoots with the court too (scheduling a court date on memorial day in 2022 for a veteran then removing that scheduled date from ***** electronic records - who does that to a vet in good conscience?).

Note how Mariner reported to the cfpb they received the payment on March 7, 2024!!! That statement is absolutely FALSE! The copy of the return receipt (and bank statement screenshot) with date of 2/21/24 verifies when they received the payment. They received my payment on 2/21/24 and the cash was withdrawn from my account on 2/23/24. Moreover, this means the Mariner Finance lawyer committed perjury on 3/6/24 before the judge in the ****** ******** County District Court telling the judge they received NO FUNDS from me. The **** statement receipt of funds date is fraudulent. Yet, having my money they verified to Experian, Equifax, and Transunion (3/22/24) credit agencies they did not receive any payment from me. I still want their credit information removed from my credit report per their fraudulent business practices and past damage to my credit worthiness.

I paid my account in full on February 26 2024 through the magistrate office and the company is still reporting that I owe $661 and that I am making late payments. They have been doing it for almost 11 months now, reporting an incorrect balance and reporting the payment as late. I have every single receipt with the correct balance once my payments were made. I also have my final receipt and a letter saying the case was now closed since the debt has been paid. Immediately, I want the entire account to be removed off both party's credit reports or the payments to be brought to current and the account now showing closed and paid in full on both party's credit reports.
