I am POA for my mother who lives in the Mountain City Center nursing home in Frostburg, MD. For he past 2 years, we have been satisfied with her care and the costs we paid. Yesterday (8/1/22) I received a letter from Peace Healthcare saying that they have bought that nursing home as of 8/1/22 and that the rates will be increasing from the $233./day we have been paying to $400./day!!! I know we are experiencing inflation and would have accepted a 10% increase without question, but that is approximately a 72% increase! We currently pay $85,045./year for my mother's care. The new rate would increase her costs to $146,000./year! That is outrageous and unacceptable! When I complained, they offered to accept $310./day which is somewhat better but would still increase Mom's costs by $28,105./year which is a big increase and would bring her costs to $113,150./year! Her increased cost is scheduled to go into effect on 9/15/22. I would appreciate it if the cost increase were more in line with the inflation we are experiencing this year (which is 9.1% but a 10% increase would be fine). Mom is on a fixed income. She had hoped to be able to leave a small amount for her family, after working as a teacher her whole career. The rate of the proposed increases seems extortionary and designed to take all of a person's resources as quickly as possible. Thank you for considering these concerns.

    Business Response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/08/09) */ RE: We received a complaint # ******** on your business External Inbox peacehealthcareinc <******************@gmail.com> Aug 5, 2022, 5:44 PM (4 days ago) to me This is a false information. Peace Healthcare inc have not purchased any nursing home facility. Please ask the individuals involved with this compliant to verify the details. This is slandering people's businesses that they've worked so hard to build. Thanks Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/08/09) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I could only find one business listed in MD titled "Peace Healthcare." I will attach copies of 2 letters from them that I received on Aug. 1, 2022 which state that they DID purchase the Mountain City Center Nursing Home in Frostburg, MD where my mother resides and how much they intended to increase the rates. Their letter did not list their website or contact information, only the contact info of the employees of the nursing home, not the business that just bought it. My complaint is in good faith and I will attach documents that prove it. I am NOT satisfied with a huge rate increase. Inflation is currently about 9.1%. A 10 or 15% increase would be much more in line with that. She has been paying $233./night. Their original demand was for $400./night (a 72% increase!). After we questioned that, they said they would accept $310./night but that is still an increase of $2600./month over the $7,000./month she has been paying. That is WAY more than the cost of inflation. Please contact this company again. Thank you. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/08/11) */ Re: BBB Complaint Case# ******** (Ref#85-********-*********8-3100) External Inbox peace healthcare Aug 10, 2022, 2:38 PM (20 hours ago) These are false allegations. We've never dealt with this individual before. Kindly investigate thoroughly before slandering and defaming organizations. Consumer Response /* (2000, 13, 2022/08/15) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) I have no complaint with PeaceHealthcare, Inc. BUT I want them to know that another person, apparently unaffiliated with them, has been using the Peace Healthcare name since at least January 2022. "Shalom ********* ****, ***, *** Peace Healthcare" bought my mother's nursing home Aug. 1, 2022 and raised the rates substantially. I finally found out how to contact him and we have negotiated an acceptable rate for her care. I apologize for the confusion. I have no complaint against PeaceHealthcare, Inc. but it was the only Peace Healthcare I could find online, when I looked. The new owner uses "Peace Healthcare" letterhead and names his nursing homes "Peace Healthcare at Mountain City Center," "Peace Healthcare at Lion's Center" etc. I thought you'd want to know, as there is some confusion between the 2 companies and it could reflect unfairly on your business. Best wishes
