A person showed up at my house, ignored my NO SOLICITATION sign, and solicited my business. I pointed the sign out to him. He ridiculed me and told me the sign was meaningless and that he ignores such signs all the time. I asked for his business card. He then offered it. I approached him to get it and he just laughed at me and pulled the card back and then walked away. This business needs to train their employees to obey NO SOLICITATION signs. I would appreciate it if you would contact them and let them know. Thanks,****

Despite getting a knock on my door when having a no solicitation sign, I talked to the salesman because I was interested in a sliding glass door quote. The salesman asked me several times about my husbands availability but I informed him everytime that I am the sole homeowner, decision maker, and person paying. He finally agreed to schedule an appointment on for a Free, No Obligation Estimate, Guaranteed, to which I then had to confirm on the phone. The person on the phone then asked again about my husband twice, to which I again informed them I am not able to confirm his availability but I am the sole homeowner, financier, and decision maker. The person on the phone then stated out of respect for my husband all decision makers had to be available. Given this was the 5th or 6th time in the entire process I had to explain, I am the sole decision maker, I asked the salesman to leave my property and hung up the phone call. It is quite offensive that I was not allowed, as a women, to schedule a simple quote for my own home.

      Presidential Exteriors LLC Response

      06/17/2024

I apologize that you were put off and/or upset with our policies and procedures here at Presidential Exteriors as it pertains to estimate scheduling. With that being said, we stand behind our policy of having all owners of the property involved in the estimating process. There are several reasons for this policy:1) Having all parties available for the estimate ensures that everyone gets their questions answered as efficiently as possible. Depending on the scope of the project, there are a lot of different material options, style options, and other miscellaneous details that is much easier to iron out the first go-around. If a husband ordered an "oyster gray" roof and the wife told him to order "pewter gray", that can cost us thousands of dollars. Communication is extremely important in home remodeling, and we find that our communication is at it's best when we can communicate with all decision makers.2) It protects the company from liability. We've had instances in the past where a middle aged son claimed to be the owner of a home, and we didn't find out that the mother owned the home until after we'd spent thousands of dollars on materials. We've had instances where husbands signed contracts only for a wife to call in a week later FURIOUS that he had committed to doing a roof that she knew nothing about. It makes everything smooth, and everything safe, if everyone that SHOULD be involved in the estimating process is involved in the process. This doesn't just go for husbands and wives, we also ask for "decision makers" to be present because we periodically have people asking for estimates that don't own the home: Renters that won't even be paying for the work... persons living in a "family home" that don't actually have any authority to make changes to the property etc.3) We want to have a fair shot of winning your business. If you interview 3 companies to get bids on a project, and you, your husband, your friends, your neighbors are present for two of those estimates (not because you feel that you need any assistance, just because the scheduling happened to be convenient) but arent present for our estimate our chances of winning that job drop to near 0%. Why? Because even if you loved us, our product, and our price, when you discuss the project with your husband, children, friends, or neighbors, they are going to suggest the company that they witnessed and preferred. Even if our price and materials seemed so much better that you decided you really wanted to contract with us, chances are very high that our estimator would have to come back out and discuss all of the same information again with any other decision makers, because they are going to have questions or concerns of their own. This has nothing at all to do with gender. As a matter of fact, it is more frequently men who are determined that they are the man of the house and dont need the wife there that get upset over this policy. We stand behind it just as firmly with those gentlemen. We dont discriminate in any fashion. We dont care if youre male or female, black or white, young or old it is our obligation to ensure that we protect both the homeowners and ourselves by ensuring that everyone that should be involved, is involved.
