Date: July 10 -13th 2023 Amount: $500 approx -(15,000 ntd) Product: Wilderness Advanced First Aid Certificate but was downgraded to Wilderness First Aid 1. The book provided by WMA ****** is a poorly made black and white photocopied replica of the $25 colored text book that is for sale in the online book store. My requests for an exchange have been blatantly ignored by customer service. 2. Requesting a review of the Advanced First Aid Course hosted by WMA-******, with active sabotage of my final exam by the chief instructor ***************, along with a review of his constant use of derogatory racial terminology. 3. From the unsanitary lodging situation to the heat fatigue causing classrooms and the unfair treatment of students attending, Wilderness Medical Associates has only one person answering all inquiries in a very unprofessional and dismissive stance.

    Business Response

    Date: 08/12/2023

This reply is from the current president and owner, *****************. ************************* no longer owns the company.

The Wilderness Medical **************** in ********, ***** initially interacted with this student when he tried to order a replacement certification card for a certification he did not earn, effectively trying to forge a certification. This is a significant concern to us. We learned that he attempted to forge a certification because he did not successfully obtain a Wilderness Advanced First Aid Certification in his course and was instead downgraded to a Wilderness First Aid Certification. This downgrade was because his competency and skills displayed in class did not meet the requisite level for the Wilderness Advanced First Aid. Assessments are based on how well students perform patient assessments, identify patient problem lists, provide care to those patients, and their performance on written exams. While the complainant passed the written exam, he did not perform these other skills to a satisfactory level to earn the advanced certification.

The instructor noted in the complaint has actively taught for WMA ****** since 2016 and we have not received any other complaints against him about his teaching, the use of inappropriate or racist language, or his equity and assessments of students in his seven-year tenure.  The accommodations for the course were recently renovated and the conditions appear very clean in photographs that were sent by the instructor. There were 17 students in the course and no one else has complained about the accommodations, the instructor, or any other aspect of this course.

This student complained about his black and white textbook and requested a full color copy of the textbook after his other efforts to forge a certification were denied. While this is not customary, we decided to accommodate this request with the hopes that he can utilize the text and improve his knowledge of the course material and provide better patient care in the future.

President and Owner, Wilderness Medical Associates International
