      We got charged service fee of $345 for 1/half work. ( Supposedly $110 per hour. ) Initially, they tried to collect 1 hour for their traveling time, then I complained. Now we got 3 hours plus fee for 1.5 hour of work. This company is Puerto rip off and they are making up numbers. Also it's really bad attitude. I am dumping them like everybody else.

      Customer contacted us with no heat. Our CSR communicated all applicable service fees and our hourly rate of $165/hr plus up to a half hour of travel. Our technician arrived, diagnosed the issue, and replaced the part, restoring heat. Our technician was on site for 1.58hr, his travel was adjusted down from 0.63 to 0.5 to reflect our max half hour of travel billed. Total time billed reflects 2.08 hours. Customer was billed as discussed in advance. ** made no attempt to collect money ahead of time.

      Called for a service call. I'd been a customer of ******* ******* (a subsidiary which Dead River acquired) for many years and had ordered oil from both Dead River and ******* ******* in the past. Initially Dead River agreed to a service call, but they then cancelled and stated that they were "not a service-only company" and only worked with customers with whom they had a relationship. I said this wasn't a problem, since I'd previously purchased oil from them on an annual cadence. The customer service agent was rude, interrupted me multiple times, and was not interested in anything I had to say. He began to interrogate me about when my last oil purchase was (I don't have dates memorized, but I gave him a range). Was told this wasn't enough. When I asked what more was needed, I was told I had to be an established customer. I offered to forward him the email I had from ******** ***** which showed my last service with Dead River less than a year ago. Apparently past service calls and multiple oil deliveries do not constitute a "customer relationship". This **************** agent had already decided he was unwilling to help me, despite my best efforts. I offered four or five different solutions including A) signing up for a service contract, B) prepaying for oil immediately, C) committing to signing a service contract upon technician's arrival, etc. Agent told me to find another company. In summary, Dead River has taught me that even if you buy oil from them, pay for their service calls, and try to sign up for a service contract, you're still not a "customer". What a horrible excuse for a **********************. I can see why you have < 2 stars on BBB.

      Called this spring for service on Empire wall heater that was not working. Agreed to repair, because $1000 was better than price for new one. However, after the repair, it developed a gas leak. Had them come out 3 times for same gas leak. They did nothing. On the 6th visit, they finally checked and declared the unit dead, which is what they should have done the first time. 6 service calls, $1600 plus billed to us for a unit that is less than $3000 to replace. This is total incompetence and lack of communication. When the service person opened up the heater the first time, a large pile of rust and corrosion fell out. Should have been a red flag. We have paid for all but the last call, which we absolutely will not. Have had a good relationship with this company for decades. My father served as president of the DR ** gas division, and later as head of personnel and public affairs, having worked there 30 years. Will not buy the new one from them unless something is done to credit our account for some of this misplaced cost. They must have thought they were dealing with our elderly mother. The company is now owned by a private equity firm, so this is the treatment customers can come to expect.

      Horrible company to deal with. First they filled our propane tank too full. It was summer and it started to spew gases. Had to evacuate the house and the ********* had to come. No acknowledgement from Dead River.Secondly, tried to get them to service our propane heater. Multiple calls with no return calls. Had to use fireplace to heat for the winter.Third, told them to pick up the tank. Took them 4 months to pick up. Then they said it had to be serviced and CHARGED me. Instead of getting a credit.How are they still in business?

      I was shocked to see that my delivery from Dead River left my driveway and part of my garden torn up. This could have been avoided by NOT BACKING UP INTO MY GARDEN! No ticket left or note saying what happened. Still work I have to do to repair garden and driveway.

      New Boiler and Tank Installation. Exceptional, professional, and reliable service. We wanted to compliment Dead River on the service installation of a new boiler and oil tank. We have been with Dead River most of the last 38 years and have never been disappointed in the delivery of oil or service when needed. Kudo's to our customer ********************** representative who knows how to properly size and select the right equipment. Kudo's to the service techs that spent 3 days installing the new system. It has now been running for two months and has performed properly without needing callback service for any problems. The quote for the system was very competitive. We recognize the cost of service is considered pricey for general repair needs but the techs are on call 24/7/365 if you are a customer. The work is top quality and professional.

      Dead River bought out ******* Energy who was our previous oil provider. We always get our oil hot water heater and oil furnace serviced annually. When our routine service was scheduled for 12/15/2023, Dead River notified us of an hourly rate change to $165.00 per hour. They did not notify us that travel to our home for this routine service was also charged at the $165.00/hour rate. Therefore, they charged us $82.50 for what they said was a half hour drive to our home.They were in our home for a little less than two hours, during which time they serviced both our hot water tank and furnace. They charged us a total of $420.75 for labor, which breaks down to **** hours, longer than they were at our house. Our total bill including parts was $538.45, which was almost $300.00 more than last years cost. After calling other suppliers in the area, Dead Rivers charges are almost double for the same routine services. We would not recommend this company and will not be using them going forward.Note: After multiple phone calls, Dead River says as a courtesy they will send us a check for the travel fee.

      We performed the annual furnace cleaning and water heater at this home for the last two years. The previous year, the furnace was billed incorrectly, and the customer was not charged any labor. This year, the office confirmed with the customer the new labor rates, which they agreed to and scheduled both of their cleanings. After performing both services, the customer called to dispute charges. The office explained there was a billing error last year, and instead of re-billing the labor, they opted not to as a courtesy. The office explained perhaps this is why the bill seemed much higher from last year. Throughout multiple conversations with the customer, they were offered an adjustment to their billing for 1 hour of labor on the furnace and the specific amount for the water heater. In the last conversation with the customer, they disputed that travel was not disclosed to them. The office offered to credit them back the difference of the travel, which seemed agreeable to the customer.

      Unjustified Billing for Unsolicited Services I recently had a frustrating and unjust experience with Dead River. My wife and I were unexpectedly met with an oil delivery from Dead River - one we never ordered or authorized. The service was on automatic delivery from the previous owner. After explaining the misunderstanding to the driver and the billing department, Dead River still billed us for this unsolicited service.When we called to dispute the charge, Dead River's response was appalling. They insisted on upholding the bill, showing a blatant disregard for customer consent and ethical business conduct. Billing customers for services they did not request is not just poor service; it's outright unethical.I urge potential customers to avoid Dead River.

      We have been in contact with the customer via phone and email to apologize for the confusion and explain the charges were applied to their account in error. The charges have been removed from their account. Customer responded via email to acknowledge they received the information and that the issue is resolved.

      Last week I left a bad review which I shouldn't have The Dead River in ****** ***** has always been there when I need them. ************************* goes above and beyond to take care of the customer's the staff are very friendly and accommodating so I apologize to the girls that work so hard to make sure you are taking care of no mater what the needs are propane fuel and a person in a bad mood lol. keep up the good work.
