I hired the Appliance Repair Man to diagnose and fix a problem with the microwave vent above my stove which was not working properly. The person who I scheduled the appointment with assured me that they have expertise in fixing ** appliances. The technician had no idea what he was doing. I had to keep explaining over and over what the problem was, and even then he didn't seem to get it. He spent a ton of time on his phone, as if he was trying to figure out how the appliance was supposed to work. He initially suggested that I buy a new filter. I had to explain to him why the filter was not the problem. He finally told me that I need to replace the fan for $350 and I asked him why he thought the fan is the problem. He replied, "I'm not sure what else it can be." He was not able to show me or tell me what's wrong with the appliance. This was a $119 service fee that was a complete waste of money. I declined to have any additional service done on the microwave because I have zero confidence that they know what they're doing.

This repair person arrived at my house on time, off to a great start. Within 5 minutes he told me what was wrong- I needed new shocks and a rubber ring for the washer door. I asked him how much that would cost and he said "wouldn't be less than $400." I asked him how much he charges per hour, and he ignored me saying "you can just pay the diagnostic fee" which is $120. He wanted $120 for five minutes, and would not tell me why it would be $400 to fix parts on a washer where the parts cost $70 and it takes less than 20 minutes to fix. Instead he scrolled on amazon for several minutes, past all of the other rubber rings for my washer, to find the SINGLE rubber door ring for a washer that was over $50 ($175.) How do I know? Because we did it after he left and the parts came out to that amount. My guess is that this guy goes to people's homes, crazy overbids them, and then keeps the 5 minute diagnostic fee for $120. I feel that this man assumed that because I am a woman I did not know what I was talking about. I hope that he doesn't continue to scam people.I understand needing to make a living, but I cannot understand hoping people don't know better as you try and charge them at a rate that would be near $1200 an hour.
