1 starCautionary tale for you so you don’t make the same mistake I did. 1st I would like to say that I signed the paperwork and agreed to the service so part of this is on me. My 38 week pregnant wife and I woke up to no heat in our home with temperatures below zero this morning. Frantically I called Hero Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical and am grateful they were able to make it out right away in the morning. The customer service of calling and customer service we received from our tech was great. That is where the good ends. In reviewing our furnace, the tech recommended a mirage of services ranging from $3500 down to a "band-aid" fix of $250 (I should have chose the band aid and got other quotes). We were charged $224 to clear a pressure switch port which after talking to another HVAC company is a near 10 minute process of blowing two sides of a port out, $1,356 for a combustion blower (inducer motor) later to find out this is roughly a $200 part ($1156 in labor??), replacement of a flame sensor for $267 (quoted $85 from other HVAC), replacement of an igniter for $250 (quoted $125). Overall I paid $2097 for a 4 hour job of which an hour and 45 minutes were spent getting parts. Be careful with the quotes you are being provided with this company and always get a second/third quote before agreeing to their service. If it wasn't below zero out with no heat we would have done just that.Review fromPat S

1 starPat S We had Hero out to trouble shoot our Rheem tankless water heater, which had an ignition issue, and flashed an error code 12 gas flow interruption. Hero's service technician "Dylan" began by measuring the heaters required gas flow when it started he noted there was a drop in the flow, at which point he inspected the natural gas supply system and concluded the issue was the system had 2 regulators and that's why the heater wasn't working. I question his conclusion, stating that the water heater had worked with 2 regulators in the supply line for more than 15 years and why would it stop working know? he assured me that it was the problem, he then call his office came back with a repair cost estimate which he had broken down his repair proposal as follows: Good (least expensive) remove the second regulator located at the supply line to the water heater, Better (more expensive) remove the second regulator and install a new regulator on the water heater Best (most expensive at $996.12) remove the second regulator and install a new regulator on the water heater and reconfigure the gas supply line, which he assured us would fix the problem and we felt it was the right choice based on him assuring it was the correct fix. He did the "Best" repair, started the water heater up, and it didn't work! I then asked him if he was going to actually open up the water heater inclosure to inspect the ignition system and he insisted that was not the problem! After he left, we where very upset with paying almost $1000.00 and felt that we had ripped off! I then YouTubed tankless water heater code 12 issues and found several video's of technicians working on code 12's yes they checked gas flow, but they all opened up the water heaters to inspect the heaters ignition system, typically finding that the igniter was dirty, they then cleaned it and the water heater worked! We will not use Hero again!Review fromHayley J

1 starWe’ve had nothing but trouble with Hero. Last year, we had our sewer line relined. This year, when we tried to sell our house, the city inspected the line and found that Hero had left it one inch too short. Now we’re on the hook for fixing their mistake. We paid Hero $11,000 (which we’re still paying off) and now we have to spend another $8,100 for another company to correct the issue. Despite Hero’s work being covered by a warranty, they refused to honor it for the extra inch, arguing that the liner was “technically” not defective. They claimed their installation was compliant because it was within 18 inches of the sewer tap, but the city’s requirement is that it must be flush. That extra inch they missed also caused a small belly where water was collecting, which we confirmed with another company. We also had Hero perform a furnace tune-up. The technician told us the furnace was so bad that they had to shut off both the gas and power. As the temperatures were dropping, they pushed us to replace the furnace. However, when we had a second opinion from another company, they couldn’t find the “crack” that Hero claimed was there. It feels like Hero excels at inventing problems and cutting corners with their work, rather than doing the job right.Review fromTrina S

1 starHad them out for a main drain backup. All they put in to clear it was a little cable. Then quoted us $20-36k for a full mainline replacement. And pressured us to book this week because 'otherwise the city won't let us dig and you just won't have a drain for the entire winter.' Called in a second estimate. They cleaned out the drain and there wasn't a single crack or problem with our piping. Cost us $750 instead of $20k+. They're absolutely scammers.Review fromColin L

1 starCalled for a leaking expansion tank on my boiler. Tech came out and quoted $1,000 for the fix. When I told him his price was outrageous, he countered with the fact that the tank would be $200-$300 and the work would take 2-3 hours. Still a high price but I approved the work in that context. Imagine my surprise when both of those statements turned out to be false. The tank he installed is $125 at Home Depot and the work took him 45 minutes to do. When I complained to their customer service, they basically said I had approved the work so that was that. When I pointed out that I was seriously misled about the tank price and the labor time, they replied that they paid more for the tank and that they don't charge by the hour. Don't use this company unless you have more money than you know what to do with and like being lied to.Review fromS. W.

Deceptive practices indeed! Do NOT engage with this company whatsoever! Called them to fix a shower flow issues on a little used bathroom. Scott F gave me four options from $195 service call to a $2000 package. I told him that bathroom is used very little so I wouldn’t be paying anywhere near $2k to fix it. He quoted me $75 for parts and needed to return the next week. I paid $195 for the service call. He returned the next week and installed the two parts in less than 30 minutes. Charged me $1800, in addition to the $195 I paid. No authorizations, no receipts. When confronted he said the office would send the receipts and ran out the door. So when I said there is no way I am paying 2K to fix a little used bathroom, that is exactly what he did. Called the office to complain and get any authorization or receipts. The needed my email address since they didn't have it (yet Scott F said they would send the authorization and receipts!) liars and cheats - still no pre-authorization on costs and the signature on the receipt is just a squiggle. While the 'receipt' didn't have much detail I did google the cost of the parts and they were about $75, so this company charged $1725 to my card for 30 minutes of work. Office said they would file an internal complaint and call me back. I have made 5 attempts to talk to 'Amber' - she never calls me back, the office refuses to schedule a time for us to talk, that I just need to keep calling and hope that she isn't on the phone. I am trying a number of avenue to get my money back and I'll post any positive results so that others can follow.Hero Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, Drains & Electrical

1 starOutrageous prices, plus they try to upsell you on additional services you don't need. The equivalent of a shady mechanic, but for your home. This company is a scam. Somehow their overall rating is good, but every recent review says the same thing.Review fromRobert B

1 starDo not use this company! I made an appointment for my free A/C tune-up on my service plan. I did this in June to be ready for the heat of summer. They gave me a date of Aug 7. Isn't that special? On that day they told me they'd have to reschedule for Sept 27. Wow, maybe we'll get the A/C checked before the first frost! Brilliant. Instead of saying "sorry" which means nothing, they should have said "How can we make this right for you?" But they don't really care about that, just do the "tune-ups" to generate more business providing egregiously and reprehensibly priced repairs. *** ****** **** ** *** ***** **** ** **** *** ** *** **** ***** ** * ***** ********* **** **** **** ***** *******Review fromPam S

1 starThis company engages in deceptive practices. I initially contacted them for a standard main line snaking service, which they advertised for $123. Upon arrival, the technician immediately attempted to upsell additional services. After I declined, they performed the basic service but strongly suggested I pay extra for a camera inspection due to a significant amount of roots they encountered. When I refused again, they offered the camera inspection for free, which revealed a root ball at about 65 feet. They then proposed an upgrade to a larger blade, which I agreed to. However, when they returned the next day, they attempted to charge me the full price for the upgraded service instead of just the $100 difference. Although their system allegedly didn’t allow for the correct adjustment, they managed to apply discounts and coupons, bringing the total down to $102. Despite using the larger blade, they were unable to clear the root ball and recommended either a significantly more expensive chain service or a $11,000 liner service. I declined and instead hired Ron the Sewer Rat, who successfully completed the job using a regular blade with a camera inspection, without any issues. Save your money and avoid this company, as they seem more focused on upselling than providing genuine service.Review fromGary G

1 starThey have never shown up on time for a furnace & AC tune-up. Every year, I call them and schedule an appointment, and every year, they do the same: they reschedule your appointment during the day of your appointment. They expect you to take time off your busy schedule and wait for a technician who never shows up. (They only arrive on time when installing a new system or making significant repairs). I have gotten a furnace, AC, and water heater installed from Hero. They sell the system with a few years of maintenance included, but when you call them, they never prioritize you. They always reschedule. I had an appointment for July 8th and now they reschedule for September for an AC tune up. I had my appointment a few month prior to July.
