My name is ********************* and I am a first time home buyer. I just bought a house that I am totally excited about. The only thing is that I know nothing about houses. The house got inspected and I was told that the age of the roof was seven years old and the furnace was five years old and that there was nothing wrong with the house. Then I move in. While moving in, I discover there is a leak in the bathroom coming from the exhaust vent. Then we got a good rain and I discover upstairs the walls are cracking and plaster around the chimney is falling off and the ceiling is falling down. I started to look underneath the house and the house is support with jacks. I checked with the city and the only permit they have on the house is the furnace and that was nine years ago not five. There is no permit for the jacks under the house. The city said that they only hold permits for 21 years which means that the roof is at least 22 years old, not seven. The person who did the inspection should definitely not be doing that job because they dont know what theyre doing because they shouldve noticed these things. And then whenever I brought this to the lenders attention, the lender says that it is my problem. This is not right for a Veteran of the United States to be treated like this. The seller should be held liable.
