We came as a small family vacation and the first 3 days were more trouble then what we should have gone through. 1st night myself and son's mother in law stayed up ALL night due to ***** recluse cockroaches and some other kind of bug. We spent our night try to make sure the spiders stayed away from kids and grandkids. No sleep for us. 2 Pads on the bed were stained yellow. 2 comforter were also stained The carpets were so gross we couldn't put our 6mo old down nor could we let our 4 year old play on the carpets. The other floors were so dirty and ***** that our feet became dirty within a short period of time being there. 2nd morning it was noted that the bathroom sink still had toothpaste spit on the faucet. We would have noticed this the first day but we didn't brush our teeth because we were on bug control. There where nails coming up from the deck, again unable to let the kids play out there nor were we able to comfortably walk on the deck ourselves. One of the balusters was not fully attached and the kids could fall through. Some of the outlets had no covers, also a huge concern with the kids. No smoke detector in the main area of the home The outside shower didn't work. The first 3 days my son and wife complained about the king size bed sinking in the center. So the 3rd day we had to have someone come out to fix that. They ended up so tired they left Thursday. So due to it supposed to have been a family vacation myself and my son's mother in law left Friday. So this has been the worst vacation we have EVER had and will not be returning to this home. We will have second thoughts about even renting from this rental company again. We will NOT advise anyone to stay here or use this rental company. The only reason we gave it 1 star is because of it's location. I spent so much of my time on the phone calling the rental company and organizing maintenance- several times, house cleaners, bug control, carpet cleaners. It made the worst vacation. ******************* home.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at *********. Our goal is always to provide guests with a wonderful vacation, and we know that begins by arriving to a properly cleaned home. Were sorry we fell short of that **** and that you found cleaning issues as you settled into your rental. We rely on multiple teams of contracted cleaners to service our properties, and we will use your feedback to inform the cleaners who were originally assigned to your unit of what they need to be mindful of in the future. While we are happy to immediately address cleaning issues brought to our attention during our office hours, it appears from our records that you reported your initial issues to our overnight call service sometime after midnight. We were able to have additional cleaning staff out to you the next morning to replace the comforters and mattress pads, re-clean the floors and clean the area rugs in the property. All of our rental properties are on a quarterly pest control service, and after your report we arranged to have a certified technician from a local company visit your property to perform an inspection. This technician did not find any signs of pest control issues at the property upon his visit, but he did perform a respray of the unit. Our maintenance team also visited the home that day and replaced the two cracked outlet covers and provided a new smoke detector for the living room. When the issue with the king *** was called in on the fourth day of your stay, maintenance returned and did find broken slats on the frame which we were able to immediately replace. All issues pointed out in regard to the decking have also been addressed by our team, and the outdoor shower valve was replaced. We understand that this vacation rental fell well short of the relaxing beach vacation your family had envisioned, and we wish we could turn the clock back for you. We would love the opportunity to earn a second look in the future and encourage you to connect directly with our guest services manager so we can find a better fit for your group when planning your next vacation. Were glad to have someone personally inspect any property youre considering helping ensure it meets your needs and that you have the wonderful vacation experience you should expect when staying with us.

Green pool of algae, dead rat in skimmer. No property manager ever returned my calls. They don't care.

Unfortunately, the pool was not ready for guest use upon arrival due to an issue with a third-party vendor who serviced it. Once we were aware of the situation, we took immediate action to remediate it and had the pool fully functional the following day. We do care about each and every one of our highly valued guests. Correspondingly, there was reasonable consideration returned to the guest, not only for loss of the pool usage for 1 day but also for the inadequate communication from staff.

Being a property owner I try to check monthly on ***** place. However in 2022 I left up to Oak Island Accomodations. They had some renters that left house dirty. Fish and shrimp odor in fridge. While on my way to inspect they spent 2.5 hours cleaning after other guest could not stay. They avoided my calls. When I did chat they said house had a musty smell. I had just replace ac and coils no carpet. They charged for repairs that were not finished. When I inspected, the end railings were loose, sink faucet still leaking. I had hand rails and over 40 pickets secured. Very poor property management. When I complained they wanted to drop rental. Now with ******* ****. This company seems much more in tune with property management.

Our goal at Oak Island Accommodations is to meet and/or exceed all guests expectations. At times we have to engage additional corrective measures to restore the home back to its original rental ready state. On rare occasions we encounter situations that prevents us from provided an acceptable accommodation. On such occasions, we are prompted to move the guest(s) to another rental. Unfortunately, in this case, we had to do just that, but we did provide the owner the rental income so he would not experience a loss. With regard to the decking, a licensed third-party vendor was engaged to perform the work and the receipt was given to the owner. Other repairs, which include the sink faucet, were corrected by the owner so there were no charges associated with this. We performed our roles in a reasonable and fair manner all the while being sympathetic to the situation imposed on the owner. Oak Island has been in business for 32 years and we stand behind our professional services to guests and owners alike. Our sincere hope is that your future business endeavors are a success.

Let me say that the location of this property is great. It's directly across the street from the beach with no houses obstructing the view. 1. The house was filthy. We all actually washed our comforters before putting them on the beds. They had questionable stains that made us all uneasy. The closets had extra blankets that were balled up. It looked like they were thrown in. They we're nasty. 2. The floors were dirty (old grime). Baseboards were full of dirt and dust. 3. All furniture, including nightstands and chests of drawers were plastic. In fact, most of the furniture was plastic (the kind of plastic furniture usually used outdoors). There wasn't a comfortable seat in the entire house. The sectional sofa had no support or cushioning and this was the one piece of furniture that was remotely comfortable. 4. The throw rugs had sand spurs in them and the den rug shed white strings constantly. There was no carpet, which I can understand, but the broom was so old it wasn't useable. It was shaped like the letter I (hope that makes sense). 5. The kitchen cabinets looked as if someone threw the pots, pans, bowls, etc in them. I actually organized them myself to make cooking a little quicker and efficient. The shelf liner had dried food and stains on it. We had to throw a lot of our refrigerated food out as the refrigerator froze most of our food: milk, lettuce, lunch meat, etc. Of course a cold fridge is great but not when it freezes your food solid. No ice maker. 6. The bathrooms were the worst. Again, filthy floors. The shower curtain had mildew on it!!!!! The toilet holder and matching shelf weren't secured into the wall so we're unusable. One bathroom was obviously so soggy with water that we felt like the floor was going to "give away". 7. Pool wasn't clean. Trash in the water

Oak Island Accommodations' top priority is ensuring a positive vacation experience for all guests and apologize that these expectations were not met. We encourage guests in multiple emails to contact our team if the property is not up to cleaning standards upon arrival. Unfortunately, we were not made aware of these issues until weeks after departure. As a result, our team was not able to send an in-house cleaning crew to alleviate the unsatisfactory job performed by the contractor housekeeping vendor.

OIA asks all guests to tidy up and leave spaces such as kitchen cabinets and other common areas organized upon departure. As the summer months build on each other, kitchen essentials can be misplaced. Out team will take the steps to organize the space for guests moving forward.

Between guests, OIA is working on the guest's behalf to inspect the property to ensure proper furnishings are available for all guests who visit the property as well as the maintenance issues with the bathroom.

I appreciate the fact the you said you would've remedied the unsatisfactory cleaning, however, this would've taken more than a few hours and we had small children who were ready to "be on vacation" (as well as the adults). This house didn't need just additional sweeping and mopping. As mentioned, the shelf liner had dried sticky "stuff" on it. The showers were moldy. Sand spurs in the rugs, and a mattress that wasn't a mattress, merely a piece of foam. This wasn't going to be a quick fix. The cleaning crew who OIAs has should be just that, a cleaning crew. Yet you are transferring the deplorable conditions on the renter, because I didn't notify you?????. Hmmmmm....

I rented a house for my family on the beach on Oak Island. I have to say the house is the most disgusting place I have ever rented. Most of the appliances don't work. The dishwasher doesn't work, the refrigerator in the downstairs doesn't work. It smells like dead fish, and we had to throw away a lot of food. The garage door doesn't open and we are supposed to have access to the grill, beach toys and the bikes. The only down stairs door has a sign that states do not use. Consequently there is no outside escape from the downstairs. This is a safety/ fire violation. The downstairs/ ground floor is so musty and fowl smelling that our family that tried to sleep there awoke coughing and congested. I will never rent from this business again and plan to start legal proceedings if my concerns are not addressed. Additionally, I plan to contact the local Fire Marshall about the lack of escape from the ground floor.

Our company rented a vacation rental located at **** East Beach Drive, Oak Island, NC to ****** ****** during the period of June 18, 2022 through June 25, 2022. We thank the guest for the feedback that they have shared. Of the issues they mention in this review, the guests reported having difficulty with the garage door the day after their check in to our office and the remaining issues referenced in their review on June 20, 2022, to our office.
An OIA maintenance technician attempted to make contact with the guest at the property on June 20, 2022, but was unsuccessful. We want to make contact with the guest whenever possible before entering a home. The maintenance technician returned on June 21, 2022, and entered the property. He found that the issues with the garage door were user error, that a lever needed to be unlocked from inside the garage in order to lift the garage door. Guests at this property have access to the inside of the garage via a door on the ground level as well. Also on the ground level, there is another door that leads to the outside of the home. The guest is correct that this door does have a sign with messaging to not use it. Our company is working with the property owner to have this sign removed as a property manager confirmed this door functions properly and should be available for guest use for both emergencies and for ease of access with availability amenities should the guests prefer this door over using the garage door.
In addition to inspecting and confirming that the garage door was in working order on June 21, 2022, the maintenance technician also inspected the dishwasher the same day and confirmed that it was working properly. The second refrigerator was also inspected and it was found that the temperature was at 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The freezer side was at 6 degrees Fahrenheit during this same inspection.
During the property manager's inspection, the steps were inspected and there are handrails in place on the steps that lead to the ground floor. The property manager also noted that in addition to the nets and sieve mentioned by the guest, there were also buckets and shovels in the garage for playing on the beach. There were five to six games that appeared to have all the needed pieces. There were also several puzzles though the property manager did not count the puzzle pieces to ensure they were all there. The property manager did not notice a musty smell as referenced by the guest.
In reviewing our findings, where we did find that our company fell short was in follow up communication to the guest during their stay after the maintenance tech was able to inspect the items. The findings on how to unlock the garage door and the findings for the dishwasher and refrigerator were not reported to the guest so that we could have explained how the garage door could be unlocked or troubleshoot any user errors with the dishwasher. We recognize that we fell short of our own expectations with guest communication during this reservation and a property manager has attempted to contact the guest to apologize and reach a fair resolution.

A property manager from Oak Island Accommodations contacted me and addressed all the issues. The dishwasher was repaired, but never ran properly. The are planning to correct the problems with the garage door and have the property owner address the do not use sign on the basement door.
Overall, we were satisfied with how the issues were eventually addressed.
Luckily the issues did not hamper the beautiful ocean views the house has.
