I am writing to formally file a dispute against NelNet regarding the reporting of negative information to the credit bureaus, which has significantly impacted my credit score. I have been making consistent payments toward my student loans, and the current derogatory mark on my credit report is both inaccurate and unjustified. The reason for the temporary payment issue stemmed from a malfunction with NelNet’s automatic payment system. I had autopay set up through my bank account, yet for reasons beyond my control, the scheduled payments were not processed as expected. I was unaware this had occurred until I noticed the negative report on my credit, and I took immediate action to bring the account current. It is important to note that I have a history of being a responsible borrower and have made every effort to maintain timely payments. This incident was solely due to a technical error with NelNet’s system and not a reflection of my intent or financial responsibility. I believe this situation should not have resulted in a credit score reduction, especially considering I have continued to make payments since then.

Nelnet advisors provide incorrect information to borrowers. I spoke with 7 different advisors and they provided incorrect information about my loan status and interest which led to make large payments that were not necessary. They took no accountability in providing incorrect information and try to blame the borrower. Filing a compliant with Department of Education or Student Aid Gov does nothing. Nelnet is a private company providing horrible services for federal loans. No loan borrower should have to deal with their inept services. Nelnet needs to be shut down. All federal student loans need to be moved to a different servicer.

I have the unfortunate disservice of having my loans through Nelnet after they bought them from GreatLakes loans. If I could give 0 stars, I would. This is hands down, the worst company I’ve ever dealt with for loans..or anything for that matter. I have had DOZENS of payments that I paid, then got refunded for absolutely no reason except that their website is horrific, (resulting in many “late payments”) so I ended up just using a completely different bank account and put it on autopay, only for autopay to not work at all..also resulting in “a late payment”. When I called they said, well it could be your bank. Yet, for all of the loans I have, my bank works fine everywhere else. I went from a nearly perfect credit score to it being very affected by Nelnet specifically, as it is the only company I’ve ever had an issue with payments for. The more frustrating part is that I always make my full payment on time every month..but I have tons of messages of “payment refunded” then I pay it again and it goes through. If I was in the position to fully pay off my loans, I’d do it just for the sole purpose of never having to deal with this awful company again. I truly have no idea how they’re even still in business. On top of all of that, they actually got rid of their customer service email. I’m assuming because it was overflowed with constant complaints. I’m beyond fed up and unfortunately have no option but to deal with them. Fingers crossed they just go under and my loans get bought out by another company again. My sincere condolences to whoever else has loans through Nelnet.

Ferpa Violation happened and they don't want to discharge me from my student loans. I've emailed several times to Nelnet, The department of education (before Trump did what he did), to CFPB and they think my loans shouldn't be forgiven but THERE WERE FERPA VIOLATIONS

Nelnet is a disgusting lendor. They acquired a loan provider that I had a small portion of my student loans still under. There was NO communication to me regarding this acquisition. Their website has massive errors, one of which is that it could not locate my loan with any information I shared including my social security number. It felt like sheer luck that I finally located account information and made a full payment. However by this point nelnet had already recklessly tanked my credit score with faulty reportings. They made no attempts to contact me and had my primary phone number on file. They had my mailing address and sent absolutely no in mail notifications before sending reports to the credit companies. I’m in shock that doing this to people is legal. A few thousand dollars of student loans I didn’t even know still existed have destroyed my financial health. Disgusting

An absolutely disgusting and evil company. I've spent the last two years working very hard to build up my credit score. I finally got to 715! Then in one day my score dropped 180 points to the lowest it's ever been - 535. They broke up my loans in 9 smaller ones, so when it hit my credit report it did as much damage as possible. The thing is when I've paid every other bill on time in the past 14 years and actively try to be an adult and in one day they are allowed to decimate my credit score should be absolutely illegal! I can't even go out and get a new apartment now. I have never got a phone call or email from them. Even if they tried (like they told me on the phone yesterday) - everyone gets SO many spam calls every day - why would I answer a random number? They can't even leave a voicemail, apparently! I even tried to call them back in September and October to try and figure out what I needed to do going forward when I heard student loans were coming back into play - I couldn't get into my account and was on hold both times for over an hr and got so frustrated that I hung up. Now, it is on me for not trying to call back other times, but frankly, my life got very busy and it wasn't my first priority when I'm living pay check to pay check. For our government to allow a company like Nelnet to screw over so many young adults like this (look at all the Reddit posts that are similar to this one) after so many years of ups and downs, different lawsuits, hiccups between loan service providers getting sued, and covid - makes this that much worse. Oh also, one of those loan service providers I had before COVID - yeah they don't exist anymore and the $3k I paid them has never been reflected on my overall loan balance. I got robbed and back in 2019 when I tried to get that money back I spent over 2.5. days on the phone to be told: "no one could do anything about it". Talk about a corrupt system that makes us all into modern-day slaves. Nelnet is absolute shit.

How are they an A+ company with all these terrible ratings that go unresponded to? My story is not unlike many others. My loan debt was acquired by Nelnet after they purchased Great Lakes. Set up my account, made a payment or two, then I got locked out of my account, can’t reach anyone. Being a truck driver that works odd hours I rarely have the opportunity to call during their business hours and whenever I have it has been a 30+ minute wait time quoted on their automated system. I simply don’t have time to constantly deal with login issues and menu dive over the phone for hours… I work an average of 70ish hours a week (common in trucking) I spent the last two years trying to rebuild credit and pay off debts. Took a hit from 660 to 540 overnight due to Nelnet not allowing me to access my account after an autopay failure and I can’t recover password or re-register. Their periodic phone calls are robocalls with a recorded message, nothing more. Honestly, this has been the most frustrating experience ever… my credit is trashed. I think I’m just going to give up. Maybe if they sue me the gov can garnish my wages… at least then I will know I don’t have to use Nelnet broken system.

Nelnet made my credit score decrease 209 points today. I'm not looking for a handout but they had all the wrong information on file, wrong phone number, wrong address, wrong email address, and they told me there is nothing they can do to help me out. I paid everything that I needed to today but they told me that the damage is done and there is nothing they can do about it. Crazy how they can ruin a bunch of young professionals future over something like this. There goes my dreams that have been already shattered numerous times to own a house... Thanks you guys are the best .....
