On 7/17/21 my son was referred to the ****************************** emergency room for labored breathing. This would later be diagnosed by CHOP pediatric doctors as pneumonia brought on by RSV. There was only one doctor on the ** floor when we arrived, a member of "Emergency Care Specialists". He ordered a chest x-ray but either didn't look at it or is incompetent, as the pediatric doctor was easily able to diagnose the condition based on that x-ray two weeks later. He instead diagnosed my son with constipation and ordered an enema, which did nothing to resolve the symptoms and resulted in additional trips to the **. I were issued a 'surprise ****' / 'balance ****' as this business is out-of-network with my insurance ********** Blue Shield, despite the hospital and all other local doctors being in-network. This is illegal under federal law, yet they have refused to work with me even after paying $131.59 (the amount agreed to by BCBS) and insist I owe the balance of the original $350 ****. On 8/1/21 we returned to the ** for the same issue, having been previously misdiagnosed. Due to Covid protocol, I was not allowed into the hospital until my son was placed in isolated ** room. Upon entering, I insisted on only using pediatric doctors. Before that happened, an ** doctor with "Emergency ******* Services" saw my son and ordered a blood panel. I was again issued a 'surprise ****' / 'balance ****', this time for $876, even though he did even less than the first "EMS" doctor. They have refused to work with me or issue an itemized **** even after paying $447.31 (the amount agreed to by BCBS), insisting I owe the balance.I have filed an official appeal with my insurance provider. Emergency ******* Services provided minimal care, and of poor quality. Yet they are blatantly disregarding federal law and attempting to 'balance ****' me because they refuse to negotiate in-network contracts.
