Updates to this review will be made here: ***************************************** Original review May 20th, 2025: TLDR: Suburban Propane charged us $274.83 for 13.6 gallons of propane, fees, and taxes, even though we returned 13.1 gallons after cancelling our service.I was a customer of ********************** from April 18th, 2024 until May 13th, 2025. During that time we paid $90.64959 for propane, and $185.60041 in fees, surcharges, and tax. During that time we were delivered 13.6 gallons of propane. After ending our contract we were given a refund of $1.42 for 13.1 gallons that was returned to Suburban Propane. We only have a propane stove, and our usage was extremely low. This was the first time I had propane connected to anything in any place I have lived, and it will be the last. We will convert to an electric stove.Suburban Propane charged us an obscene amount of money for very little propane. They demonstrated a disregard for common sense and decency, and through their billing practices an utter disdain for their customer. For your own sake, do not do business with Suburban Propane.Suburban Propane, L.P.

We spoke to this customer and agreed to provide an additional credit back to him of $51.66, which is the difference of what was billed to him for the gas ($90.65) and the credit already given of ($38.99). All the charges on the account were supported by our contract. As a courtesy, we also agreed to credit back the 3.1gl at the minimum usage price we charged of $19.08/gl, instead of his price per gallon listed on account at 2.99/gl. He appreciated it.Review fromJenny M

This company price gouges. The national average of propane at the time of delivery was 2.99/gal, yet I was charged $8.24/gallon. When I called to complain, they said it all depends on how much propane I get, even though I have a contractual agreement for a minimum of $89 a year. The took the price down to 4.19/ gal, but sent me a bill for 5.30/gal.Suburban Propane, L.P.

We spoke to the customer and apologized for our lapse. We told her we were putting the adjustment through tomorrow and would email her the transaction so she can confirm the changes have been made. Once this is done she will have a 0 balance. Customer is pleased.Review fromBRIANA S

If I could leave zero stars I would. The company has generic messages all over their system about how all they care about is "customer satisfaction" but all they care about is scamming people out of money. I don't get propane delivered unless I pay upfront for a full tank first. For the past 6 years I have always carried a credit on my account because I have never needed the full tank of fuel. instead of asking for my money back I always left the credit on the account. I got my last delivery in Feb 2025 and still have over half a tank left. I have received no letters, emails or notes on my door...I got ONE PHONE CALL with one voicemail A COUPLE DAYS AGO saying "this is suburban please calll us back" while I was working a 12 hour shift. They gave no other details in the message. Friday 5/2 while I was at work they came and locked my tank and I had no idea why. THEY ARE CLOSED SAT AND SUNDAY so I couldn't call them since I got home from work at 8pm Friday. Today they tell me when they delivered my propane I had a balance remaining of $91...which still makes no sense because they charged me a full delivery when I called to order. They shut my propane off on a Friday afternoon so I couldn't cook or shower for my kids all weekend or get ahold of them. I told the HORRIBLE person on the phone I am a single mother and that this is really messed up... I was happy to pay it no problem but very upset they shut it off. This lady said "I'm a single mom too but my bills are paid soo" ..... WORD FOR WORD I cannot believe that's how they handle customer service. she said I have to pay over $200 for them to come turn my tank back ON!!! but they come shut it off for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY DISCONNECTED THE SERVICES I PAID FOR!!!!!! all over $90 that I didn't know I owed and would have paid. they also have my saved credit card on file!!! DO NOT USE THEM FOR SERVICES I WILL BE SWITCHINGSuburban Propane, L.P.

Terrible service. We used the service for fireplace and stove so we took a back seat to customers using it for heating. Canceled the service and they charged us over 100 dollars to close the account. would not recommend them.Suburban Propane, L.P.

We have a signed Service Agreement for this customer from ******** ******************** and we have a copy of the letter that was sent out in 2013 when ******** was acquired as part of an acquisition. This letter explains the Suburban terms and conditions for propane service. This customer is liable for the close out fee. We will call and explain this to the customer.Review fromMark A

I understand why Surburban Propane is not a member of the Better Business Bureau. I was a good customer for over 31 years. Their prices are high so I was leaving them years ago for much better prices. As a result ********* gave me a much better deal to keep me as a customer, which I did appreciate. I was moving out of their service area and was closing my account and much to my surprise they were charging me $149.00 to close my account. The tank is buried and has been paid for years ago and Im sure they will not be digging it unless the new owner wants it removed. Which I highly doubt. I there is a way to get more money from you, these folks will use every excuse and scheme to get it. DO NOT USE SURBURBAN PROPANE *******Suburban Propane, L.P.

We charge this fee to all customers and are not singling him out. On the agreement it states subject to close out fees so it is made known ahead of time to the customer.
We do go out to read the tank and lock it off, so its more than just administrative desk work.Review fromR. C

I wish I could leave zero stars. Delivered propane (automatic delivery) and charged me over $6.00 a gallon. I was shocked so I researched the going rate fir propane delivery in my area and found it was between 1.99-2.79 a gallon delivered. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!!Suburban Propane, L.P.

We spoke to this customer to explain that ******************** pricing is based on usage. This customer is a low volume user. We offered to work with him but he was not interested in a compromise. Customer only uses 250 gallons a year and was priced correctly.Review fromDaniel S

If I could leave a zero star I would. I contracted with Suburban Propane, ********. They gave a discounted rate for signing up, first delivery. When they delivered it was at Market price. I had to call three time to get it corrected. Next delivery, same thing, Was not billed at the contract rate, almost a dollar more a gallon. I visited the office, F2F, 2 days later. Said they would fix it. Didn't. Visited F2F again three days later. Promised to fix it and give me a call when done. No fix and no call. Week later, called again. Week later called again, week later called again. Each time they say they need a non-existent managers approval. He's never in the office and didn't answer his cell phone. When I asked who he works for they say they don't ********, don't walk away from this business. Not sure if they are trying to scam me at this point or they just don't care.Suburban Propane, L.P.

Our local manager spoke with Mr. ******* and fully resolved his issues. The rebill of price per gallon was satisfied prior to the conversation and the late fee was removed. We also updated the pricing on the account and apologized for the delay. Customer stated he would retract this review.Review fromThomas LaNoce

They dont even deserve 1 star. Im New to Ny and went to Public Assistance to get help they told me to go with Suburban oil/propane because they deal with them directly.then I was told to apply for HEAP which I did and received $964.00 suburban delivered ***** gallons @ $3.999 for a total of $934.03 (never was told about fees) $18.31 Municipal Tax $9.15 another Municipal tax of $.18 Transportation fee and that first fill up discount and that pricing is in volume of 1200 per calendar year usage. My second Heap ***** for $900. They delivered ***** gallons of fuel oil and charged me $944.39 price per gallon of $5.729 and $18.31 Municipal Tax $9.24 Transportation fee. When I called and checked on when delivery was this is when I found out all of this. I have NO income and struggling to get by and theyre taking advantage of the system (Heap) and price gouging the customers. I called and Notified Heap and called Suburban they told me that to terminate their service I would have to pay a fee for early termination. I NEVER signed a *********** Now I owe them when I told them to only use what I have in credit and Heap. Which they didnt. Was also told it was discounted for the first time fill that why I got it for $3.999. The average price of fuel oil is ***** - ***** at least 7 other companies only charge ***** a gallon. Wish I knew this about Suburban fuel oil before I started an account with them. Buyers Beware. I will Not Deal with them as far as owing anyone they owe me NO WAY IS A PRIVATE RESIDENT Gonna use 1200 Gallons of fuel in a calendar year I have a Boiler System and only use approximately 850 a year heat and hot water.Suburban Propane, L.P.

Mr. ****** received his first fill at our discounted first fill price. The next delivery Mr. ****** received was not at the first fill rate, but it was at a discounted rate.Thomas LaNoce

How is the $5.729 a discount for second fill when the average is $2 lower than what you charge? Then suburban wanted to charge me an early termination fee when I never signed a contract. 10 other companies were charging ***** a gal but your company is charging $5.729 because I didnt use 1200 gallons for a calendar year. This is price gouging and you know it.Review fromL. S.

If I could leave a no star review I would. I have been trying to get someone to help me before March 24 but sent an email on March 24 and was talking with ********* CamachoVelez in Customer Relations. She did not understand what I was trying to tell her but after a couple of emails I decided to just take what she was suggesting and start a new contract. All I wanted was my tank filled. It is on empty. After back and forth dispute on the contract (I am an existing customer but they could not find my account and wanted to charge me for another yearly rental fee) I decided to just pay it start another contract to just get my tank filled. However, they sent me a contract via email and no way to docu sign. I sent another email asking her to send me the contract in a docu sign format so I could electronically sign this contract. I was ignored. I gave it a couple days and then called in Wednesday (this is Sunday) I talked to another worker and explained what I needed she said that I could send the contract to *** ex and have them print it out then scan it back to them. I explained to her that this was very inconveniencing. I asked her did they have docu sign. She said they "usually do" whatever that means. I mean you either do or you do not. I asked her to either send me the docu sign version so I could sign the contract or print the contract for me and mail it to me. I mean as I not the customer? Why am I going through so much trouble to print and send you your own contract? Not to mention this is going to cost me several hundred dollars. I would think this was an easy ask. I also sent an email to ******** after speaking with this representative begging her to take care of this for me. The representative assured me she would. As of this writing. It has been 5 days I have yet to get a contract, an email, an explanation or anything. What do I have to do to get my tank filled from your company?******* ****** ******** P.S. check with ******** for my information.Suburban Propane, L.P.

More lies. Wow. The moment you reached out to me I responded. The contract you left in my door I signed that day and returned and left a message and texted back and forth with the guy and after some time I got it resolved. Terrible customer service. ********* in the office is the worst. Stop embarrassing yourselves if it literally was not for me continuing to push this I would have never received service.Review fromT. In January and February these people refused to answer the phone yet driving by Suburban Milford at 10 am or3 pm there were two or three trucks sitting there Yet I Could no get a delivery ( my residence Is 8 miles away ) I have been lied to by this one individual since day one and have had enough of this treatment I have not paid for the last delivery because They as usual have not delivered for the entire month of March I just informed them ( her ) that I would pay the bill after they pick up the tank and yes they charged me @$ *****/gallon with no notice. I will be contacting an attorney as to my rights and also advise the property owner in replacement of the 8 other tanks on the propertySuburban Propane, L.P.
