This company lied about every aspect of what they said they would do. The advertising they did was something Ive done before put book on ******** ad just to get a report. Also they dont pay you for your book sales.I personally went on Amazon and bought books and did not receive any money. They are using this company to steal the books and any royality that is made. I did not expect to get rich from this company but I did expect to get paid for the sales I made even if it was a dollar.Initial Complaint

I published with Rushmore Press, and I cannot reach anyone for questions and marketing. I am assuming they are out of business. How do I have the book that I published with Rushmore Press removed from Amazon or other platforms? Where do the royalties go when publishers go out of business?Business response

I published my book with Rushmore Press, and they have kept all of my royalties and refuse to delete my book from their website and other platforms. They also refuse to submit sales and tax information; I have no idea how much money they've made for my work. This has blocked me from publishing any other works. I trusted this company with my dream, and they failed me. They also lied about the social media marketing and could not provide links or proof of any marketing. I was not given a refund for this nor paid for the many books that Amazon claims was purchased through their site. Working with Darryl H**** was a nightmare. He claimed to be working with a producer from Game of thrones and asked me for $6000 to create a short video for ******** movie festival. They also lied about being affiliated with *******. I am currently working on an autobiography and am mentioning the horror I faced working with Rushmore Press. I regret ever publishing with this fraudulent company.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/04/26) */ This was already addressed last yr. Book has been archived on our system and sales report have been given. It would be hard for us to fabricate book sales that did not happen. We have already closed this case. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/04/29) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I did not receive a sales report. I was sent a one line receipt of sales. It was not even a full page. That does classify as a fabrication and withholding information. I have a copy that I will send to the BBB. Pay what is owed and remove my book from ****** and other platforms. I should also be given a refund for the work that was not completed. The package that I paid for included a book agent which I never got. You did not honor our contract. I am entrusting the BBB to rectify this before attorneys get involved. You promised to remove my book yet it is still available for purchase and I never received payment for the sales.Initial Complaint

In September of 2020, I began working with Rushmore Press because Daryl said they found my book after looking at works published on ******. I paid them over $1500 to hybrid publish my book. Daryl said I would receive regular updates about distribution, marketing, and publishing. After paying the money. I was contacted by Sheila and then by Beth regarding materials and book sales. Then they ceased to contact me. I reached out and asked for updates regarding what they have been doing to promote the sale of my book. They told me that they could not meet the original projections and tried to upsell me to a higher level of marketing. I refused. I never heard from them again unless I reached out. I asked for an itemized list of what they have done to meet their side of the contract. I asked for my money back. Daryl said "rest assured we have" but provided absolutely no details. I asked two more times and never heard from them again. I never received a refund, any updates, or any progress about the marketing of my book. The entire operation is sketchy.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/04/20) */ Hi Miss ****, We have the copies of our marketing reports that justifies the proof of fullfilment of our contract I believed this was sent to you last year. We will send it to you again if needed. This is already a closed case Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/04/22) */ Hello, This is not a closed case. They were supposed to send marketing reports and an itemized list of how they marketed my book. They sent one link to me a year ago. They never fulfilled any other requests. A refund of my money will close this case. This company is running a fraudulent online business.Initial Complaint

April 2021 I signed a contract with Rushmore Press to publish a book, which they undertook to publish and promote. All went well until mid-September, by which time publication was only days ahead, the leader of the project, Jake ****** saying that he might not be able to get the book into Print before October. From October until December, nothing happened, and no plausible explanation was given to me. Since December, almost no communication has taken place between me and management, because I never could reach Jake ***** or his director. But I reached the young woman who had been doing the text changes about three weeks ago and she ssaid Jake ***** had been fired, and that the Director, Mr Richard **** had told her he had notified all clients who worked with Jake ***** of his dismissal. Richard **** had lied to her, as he never contacted me. None of my calls have been answered in the last 15 days. During the fall I asked Jake if Rushmore Press was in financial difficulties, and he answered that they were not, which is dubious. I wish to know what has happened to Rushmore Press, and, if they are now closed for business, whether I am free to publish my book elsewhere. In addition I want the text prepared for me by Rushmore to be available in the appropriate software (Not a PDF file_which on cannot alter.) If Rushmore Press is bankrupt, how does one, In your State, make a claim against them on the basis of 1) the huge amount of my time they have wasted and the large sum I paid for their services, which have yielded extremely little. I cannot answer the next question in this form, since it depends on the state of Rushmore Press.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/02/21) */ Hi Mr. ****, Rushmore Press line has always been open for our clients and we want to clarify that we are in business. The turn over from your previous literary advisor maybe the missing link here. But we are most happy to assist you with your material concern. We will have one of our staff contact you asap/ Consumer Response /* (2000, 7, 2022/02/28) */ Many thanks for your email, **** *******. After a long time without any communication between myself and the director of Publication of Rushmore Press, I received a phone call telling me that he and all his family had been suffering from COVID, which explained pratly why nobody had contacted me or answered my calls. Unfortunately he had fired one of his staff, who happened to be the man in charge of my project. So there was nobody with any authority with whom I could communicate. It would appear that Rushmore operates without any secretarial staff, which makes such experiences as I had rather likely in bad times! Rushmore have now promised to publish my book within about two or three weeks. If this happens, I shall be satisfied with their performance, more or less, and in the meantime, I withdraw my complaint as made recently. many thanks again, ***** **** (in ********) ************ Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2022/07/28) */ This is my second set of complaints about Rushmore Press. I now think, however, that they have gone out of business. If so, would you be kind enough to tell me how one deals, in Nevada, with a claim against a company in precisely that situation. They owe me money and all the unsold books (as well as royalties on the unsold books). A phone number might be sufficient. Yours very sincerely, ********** (Professor emeritus, University of *******)Initial Complaint

I had Rushmore Press publish a book- both a printed soft cover copy and an ******* version. They are both offered for sale on ******* The copy right they filed for the printed book included a wrong DOB for me and Rushmore has never filed a copy right application with the Copy Right Office for the ******* version. The copy right page of my book does not list the ISBN # for the ******* version. I have requested that the copy right page of my book be changed to give me the right to grant permission to anyone who seeks to copy, re-print or distribute any part of my book. Rushmore's Author's Portal does not allow me to track my book sales for all quarters, both present and past. The portal must also show sales of the audio version of my book. Currently it does not. Additionally, the Portal shows my royalty rate at $0.40 per book. My contract states my royalty amount per book is $4.00 per book. Rushmore states that royalties are calculated from information provided by the printer of the book. I have tracked the # of new books available on ****** and also the # of books available for sale by Third Party sellers. These #'s cycle from lows of 0 to highs of 6 or more. These are books that have been printed and should be counted for calculating royalties. I want to know why Rushmore never printed a hard copy of my book. I want to know who Rushmore has granted permission to re-print my book both domestically and overseas. I think they may have granted permission to ********* ****** in ****** England I have asked Rushmore to address all of these concerns twice requesting a response within 5 business days both times. I have never received any response. My DOB is ****. To insist that I provided a DOB of **** is ridiculous. My book was first published by ********* a division of ********* ******* and they published a hard and soft copy of my book. The Author's Portal is a total disaster. I want all copyright issues corrected. I want my royalty amount fixed.Initial Complaint

I keep getting calls from this organization. Each call is more confusing than the last. They leave phone numbers and no one returns my calls. Lately, the callers have been quite abusive and have used quite a bit of vulgarity and profanity when talking to me. These calls usually come just after I was speaking to my regular publisher. If these people are serious about helping me they should front the money they want from me and absorb it in my royalty paymentsBusiness response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/11/04) */ Hi Mr. ******, We have not contacted you for the past few weeks after you decided not to pursue our proposal. We respected your decision about it and decided to pursue a different book project. Surely, a man of your status understands that a contract can only be validated if agreed by both parties. All of our calls are recorded for QA puropose. With the advise from our legal team, we are requesting that you present to us a call recording that can back up your claim of verbal abuse. If you are not able to provide, rest assured that Rushmore Press will pursue litigiation if there are any legal lines crossed by your allegations. Please take note that litigation will happen in a more formal platform. Surely you realizes that BBB is a solicitig company to provide accreditation. -***********************************************************************
