On July 14th of 2021, I paid this company $549 to prepare and file divorce documents for me, which they never did. Instead, they kept providing me with reasons as to why they were resistant to move forward. Whenever I tried explaining what my situation was, they never took it under consideration. They told me I needed a custody order in place that in reality I don’t need, per the family court judge herself, ****** ******. We the People refuses to communicate with me because I verbalized my disapproval of the way they’ve handled my case to the supervisor, Rose S*********. So I’ve allowed my mother to handle all verbal communications on my behalf. It has now been over a year and the company had provided no status updates as to how my case is going. I then decided enough time had been wasted and I requested a refund on 8/16/22 by email, but I have yet to receive a reply back. My mother has been calling the office weekly, but no one will give her an honest answer as to when to expect the refund. The company has my personal bank card information but hasn’t issued my refund, this makes me feel uneasy because I don’t know what it’s being used for.Business response

Please see the attached electronically signed contract dated 7/14/21 between ***** ***** and We The People to prepare her Divorce documents. ***** did not provide the necessary Certified Family Court documentation to successfully file a Divorce with a Child in New York. Per the agreement, she is responsible to provide the information requested/required. When ***** was told by phone on 7/27/21 that the Certified Family Court Order was necessary to complete the paperwork for the Court, she was yelling and screaming and verbally abusing our employee to the point where the conversation had to be ended. The next day, she physically came into our office with her mother questioning why we needed a copy of the Family Court Order. Both her and her mother were literally physically approaching me and verbally attacking me. When asked to calm down and speak one at a time, ***** became extremely agitated, hostile and verbally abusive to me and the staff. At that point I asked them to leave the office. I then called ******* phone and left her a voice mail stating that we would be giving her a refund due to her hostile, abusive and erratic behavior toward our staff. The same day, I spoke with ****** *****, ******* mother, who was begging that we continue with her paperwork and she would make sure ***** did not act inappropriately when dealing with our staff. As the Manager, I approved the request to continue with the paperwork, but ONLY with the understanding that there would be NO refund given if Sasha could not provide a copy of the necessary Family Court Order or if she attacked our staff again. All parties were in agreement and a few days later on 8/2/21, ****** dropped off a Family Court Permanency Order. When we forwarded this to our processing department, they informed us that this was not the appropriate document and that the paperwork would be on hold until we received the appropriate Family Court Custody order that was originally requested. We then called ****** on the same day, who was now the liaison between ***** and We The People, to let her know that this was not the correct document. She stated that she would help ***** obtain the Certified Family Court Order necessary and would provide it asap. We called ****** on 1/3/22, to inquire as to whether they wanted to proceed and we never heard anything back. On 8/16/22, ***** emailed us requesting a refund. She was reminded that there would be no refund per her verbal agreement on 7/28/21. We explained to her once again that if she could provide the necessary Certified Court Order, we could proceed with her paperwork. She then had her mother, ******, call to request a refund as well. ****** was reminded that she and her daughter had agreed to no refund, which she did acknowledge and agree that both her and her daughter did make that verbal agreement. After several phone call from ***** to our office, I decided that I did not want to deal with ***** anymore and feared retaliation via negative reviews, complaints etc. ***** had previously (in July of 2021) put up an extremely hostile, verbally abusive and inaccurate ****** review about We The People, which she agreed to take down only if we proceeded with her paperwork. I personally provided ******* mother ****** with an agreement for ***** to sign/notarize agreeing to retract this complaint to the BBB and to refrain from any further negative reviews or complaints and We The People would refund her the $549. As of today, the signed/notarized Agreement has not been returned and ****** has not returned any of my calls. We The People has offered a refund in good faith as long as ***** would sign the Agreement not to defame us. We have also offered to continue with her paperwork if she could provide the required Certified Court Order. We believe we have gone above and beyond and that this complaint is not valid. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. I have reached out to my attorney that is currently handling my divorce, he also handles consumer affair issues. Per his advice, I will be taking legal action against We The People going forward. Regards, ***** *****
