1 starPurchased a puppy from them and was told at the time of purchase that if he had a pre-existing medical condition and is sick when he goes to the vet (with parasites or kennel cough, etc.) within the allotted time frame that Shake A Paw will pay for those medical expenses. It turned out that unfortunately he was very sick with a parasite and severe kennel cough and our vet was worried he would have to be hospitalized. Thankfully that did not happen. Nonetheless, I submitted the vet invoice to them and they refused to pay for items that they are responsible for as per their own contract. They say that they only pay for expenses related to the diagnosis of the condition. They state they don't pay for ***** exams. Without the ***** exam we wouldn't have known that the dog had a parasite so it actually is related to the diagnosis of the condition. Very bad business practices. I will never purchase a puppy from these people again based solely on sneaky business practices. Losing a customer who paid almost 3k for a ********************** instead of paying the medical bills you promised? Makes no sense to lose a customer, but this is the mentality of these people. I wanted to believe that since they had gotten in trouble that their business practices changed, but they are still selling sick puppies and trying to take the easy way out instead of paying the full medical bills to cure the puppies that had gotten severely ill under their care. My puppy still has the parasite, and I have to pay for another round of antibiotics and doctor visits when they are responsible for it and do not live up to their obligations that they themselves state in their own contract that they will pay.Review fromChristina O

Bunch of liars. They are not transparent with their puppies, they wanted me to pay for an adorable puppy before seeing her paperwork. Employee told me USDA has 24/7 access to their cameras and came in when a German ******* was dropped. One kennel of 4 dogs were coughing and one with a very severe cough. Very very sad place.Shake-A-Paw

This is a complete lie and a joke. Nothing of the sort was told to this customer. No one has access to our cameras, and no employee has ever dropped a puppy. She was verbally abusive and degrading to the staff and demanded to be able to leave with the puppies registration paperwork prior to purchasing it. After showing her all of the puppies information and multiple times of trying to accommodate her as best we can, she still continued to yell and belittle the staff. At that point she was denied the ability to purchase a dog from us, and the real reason she has left this outrageous review.Review fromoscar c

1 starI bought 3 dogs from there. 2012 and 2017, ****, sh9nobi and demon. all 3 died of cancer. Just went there july 19th with my daughter. Found a dead rabbit in one of the cages. I pointed it out to the the guy with the glasses. My daughter saw it.and started to cry. Another gentleman another gentle me. Asked me if I needed help. I told him about the dead rabbit in the cage . It was with another rabbit that was alive. The rabbit was stiff as a board. He pulled the rabbit out. Of the cage which the top was not coming off. So he squishes the dead rabbit in between the cage together it out. The other man asked if I needed help I told him what happened the guy with the glasses over heard me he came over very aggressive asking me to leave the store I told him dude the rabbit was stiff as a board . He was upset because how do u have a pet store. Selling dead animals. If they were doing there job they would have noticed the dead bunny. My daughter saw. Shake a paw has paid several fines for puppy *****. He t9ld me I was making q scene. And it was just a rabbit. Animals die all the t8me he said. You can't treat people like that.. 1 starSomeone gave me a one year old peketese dog from Shake a paw in ********. I noticed from the beginning something wasnt right. He did go to the vet and i got him all his shots. At one years old his breath stunk so bad as well as his body. The vets told me he needed his teeth pulled which is odd for a young dog. At 7 years old he went completly blind. Its from a gentic disease passed down from one his parents or some where down the line. The disease is rare. I bought him to two different vets and they diagnosed him with Sards which is an autoimmune disease. There was nothing that could be done. Eventually it affects your organs. I put wee wee pads down in the bathroom since he could not be walked outside anymore. I found drops of blood all the time. He sometimes had trouble swallowing. He went to the bathroom constantly. I went through so many wee wee pads. He then developed a tumor which had to be removed surgically and there was a chance he wouldnt make it because of his disease. I decided the best thing was to put him down. He went through so much. He was 12 years old and usually a dog with ***** lives till about 13. It broke my heart when he would walk and bunk into things. I have been a dog owner for 31 years. My poodle came from a breeder and lived till 16 with no health issues. The dog I have now is a mixed breed and will be 16 soon. He has no health issues. He came from his mother straight to me at 8 weeks. I had 2 greyhounds but they also come from bad living conditions. They lived till about 10. These puppy ***** need to be shut down. They are horrible and sell sick puppies. I know a few people who got dogs there. When its time for me to get another dog I will rescue them or go to the local shelters. Dont buy from pet shops. Go the North Shore or shelters to rescue dogs.Review fromMADIHA H

1 starSHAKE A PAW-HICKSVILLE- SHOULD BE PENALIZED FOR SELLING SICK PUPPIES TO THEIR CUSTOMERS AND LYING TO MAKE A PROFIT. On 07/08/2023, I purchased a 4-month-old female puppy-(Shih-poo) from Hicksville location. After a day, I noticed that the puppy was not feeling well & making weird sounds like coughing, sneezing, choking & gagging. The puppy was rushed to a veterinarian and diagnosed with severe ear infection and upper respiratory infection that is being treated with antibiotics currently. The veterinarian recommended me to feed puppy canned food and charged me $74 for parasite screening. My puppy looks so miserable and sick. I called Shake-A-Paw right away and complained about them selling me a sick puppy and requested them to take puppy back as I can't take care of the sick puppy while working full time however I was informed that the puppies are Final Sales. As a first-time dog owner, I feel very overwhelmed; I have to take time off from work constantly to monitor my puppy and have to take puppy back to veterinarian for follow-up after she finishes the antibiotics. I feel I have been cheated by this store as they are fooling their customers by lying that their dogs / puppies are healthy when they are not. They should have the puppies checked by the veterinarian regularly before selling a sick puppy/dog and also, they should have their policy PUPPIES ARE FINAL SALES listed somewhere in the store. They rush the customers to sign the documents before allowing them the time to read the agreement. I feel very disappointed. I need the store to return the puppy and refund me.Review fromLawanda R

1 starI purchased a Goldendoodle on Sept. 04, 2022 from Shake a Paw in ********, **. I took the puppy home and about an hour later, I noticed a running nose, coughing, and sneezing. I reported the issue immediately to Shake a Paw and was told.to make a Vet appointment. ***** visited the Vet and was diagnosed with a respiratory issue and had evidence of mucus build up. I called and spoke to ******** who sold the puppy and was called a liar. She proceeded to hang the phone up on me. I am very disappointed in the customer service e and issue with *****. I reported the treatment to a manager at the ***************** and a worker at the ******** office.
