I contacted Hi-Tech Central Air and scheduled an appointment for their technicians to inspect my malfunctioning ** unit. The customer service representative informed me there would be a charge of $150 plus tax for the inspection, which could be applied towards any necessary repairs. I agreed, and the technicians arrived as scheduled.After inspecting the *** the technicians called someone and provided me with two quotes: $600 to replace the fan motor and $900 for a new 8000 BTU Media **. I looked up the cost of the fan motor on partselect.com and found it for $122.80 (part #**********, for my GE ********* **). Additionally, a Media ** of the same capacity was available on Amazon for $379.Concerned about the discrepancy, I called Hi-Tech Central Air to complain. When I asked about their hourly labor rate, the customer service agent couldn't provide an answer. She also informed me that the actual repair cost would be $650 including tax, not $600. When I inquired about the $900 ** model, she couldn't give any details. I requested to speak to the manager, but he was unavailable.Hi-Tech Central Airs business practices seem unethical, with significantly inflated prices likely meant to take advantage of the initial $150+ tax fee I had already paid. I am requesting a refund of $163.31 and a change in their business practices to prevent others from experiencing similar issues.
