Consumer legal group salesman made promise to erase my debt. Talked about how I was lucky they could reduce the debt and pay back the rest with my payments. I sent them over $250 a month to do this. Then they contacted me later saying they were just representing me and not going to take care of the debt. I requested a refund for their fraudulent sales tactics and not doing what the salesman promised. I then cancelled the amount coming out of my account.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond.
After reviewing the clients file, Consumer Legal Group, P.C. (CLG) denies any claims of misrepresentation or fraudulent conduct. The client enrolled in our legal services program after speaking with an affiliate partner. Immediately following that call, the client completed a Welcome Call with a *** representative and signed a Service Agreementboth of which clearly outlined the scope of our services.
*** is not a debt settlement company and does not make payments to creditors. Our services involve the legal review and potential dispute of unsecured debts. These terms were explicitly explained during the Welcome Call and in the signed agreement, which also states that *** does not guarantee specific outcomes, such as full debt forgiveness or account removal.
We understand that the complainant may have received preliminary information from a third-party affiliate prior to enrollment. While we cannot speak to the exact language used by the affiliate, *** does not condone any misrepresentation of our legal services. That said, any misunderstanding should have been clarified by the disclosures provided during the Welcome Call and the written Service Agreementboth of which clearly explain the nature of our services.
Furthermore, the client was notified in writing of the distinction between the affiliates marketing role and CLGs legal representation at the outset of the program. At no point did *** falsely claim to erase debt or settle specific accounts without a full legal review.
As previously communicated, a refund is not warranted, as services were provided in accordance with the agreement. We remain committed to transparency and are happy to provide additional documentation upon request.

To Whom It may concern,In August 2023, I was looking for a consolidation company to help me consolidate all my credit cards and personal loans into one monthly payment. I later received a call from Consumer Legal Group explaining that they could help me. I then signed up with them and agreed to make a payment of $828.20 monthly so they could settle 5 accounts. They started with the largest account Best Egg for $31,152.40. They had follow-up calls with me every 60 days letting me know that the settlement for that account was going well. In June I received a call from one of the creditors that they had not received a payment from me in over a year. So, on June 14, 2024, I terminated my contract with them, because I found out they were not making any payments to the credit card companies. I was told that the Best Egg account has been settled, and it was no longer on my credit report. I was told that the payments I had been making were towards their fees as they were going to dispute my charges to the accounts. After I cancelled, the account was not on my credit report, but 3 months after, the Best Egg account was back on my credit report. The account was sent to a debt collector who is asking me to make payments again for the account that they settled on. For this reason, I would like to be refunded for all my payments, including the amount owed to Best Egg, which they claimed they had settled. If it was settled, it should not have been back on my credit report. I am very disappointed, with the way CLG has handled my account. I had called them, but they refuse to give me my refund, saying it was their fees. Thank you.

      Business Response

We appreciate the opportunity to address this matter and clarify the services rendered to the complainant.
Upon review of the clients file, including all signed documentation, recorded communications, and case notes, we have determined that this complaint arises from a fundamental misunderstanding of the services provided by Consumer Legal Group (CLG). The client enrolled in our program in August 2023 and fully acknowledged and accepted the terms and conditions outlined in the executed Service Agreement, which explicitly states the scope of our services.
      Nature of Services Provided
Consumer Legal Group is a law firm that provides legal representation to dispute and challenge the validity of unsecured debt obligations, as allowed under applicable federal and state consumer protection laws. We are not a debt settlement company, nor do we hold ourselves out as one. As stated clearly during the clients Welcome Call and in the signed Service Agreement:
*** does not make payments to creditors on your behalf. CLGs role is to conduct legal analysis, dispute the validity of debts when appropriate, and pursue possible resolutions through the legal process. No guarantee is made regarding removal of accounts from credit reports or settlement of any specific debt.
At no point did CLG claim to be making payments to the complainants creditors. All monthly payments made by the client were applied in accordance with the fee structure outlined in the Agreement, covering legal services, administrative support, and dispute-related efforts.

Our internal records show CLG engaged in dispute activity regarding the Best Egg account and other enrolled debts. The client received multiple 60-day status calls, during which our team reviewed the dispute process and status updates and reiterated that we do not make direct payments to creditors.

In the case of the Best Egg account, we submitted disputes to challenge the validity and enforceability of the debt based on the information available at the time. The temporary removal of the Best Egg account from the clients credit report may have resulted from that dispute activity, which is not uncommon when an account is under review by credit reporting agencies or third-party collectors. However, reappearance on the credit report does not necessarily indicate that no legal action was taken or that CLG failed in its dutyit often reflects a decision by the creditor or collector to re-report the account or transfer it to another entity.
The client was notified via email on December 31, 2024, that a refund request was reviewed and ultimately denied on the basis that:
Services were rendered in accordance with the signed Agreement.
      No misrepresentation of services occurred.
The client voluntarily terminated the Agreement before the legal review process was completed.

While we regret the clients dissatisfaction, we must respectfully reiterate that no refund is warranted. The client received legal services described in the Service Agreement, and the fees collected reflect the work performed. We remain committed to transparency, legal compliance, and consumer advocacy, and we encourage all clients to contact our support team if they ever have questions about their program or expectations.
We are available to provide further documentationincluding call transcripts, signed agreements, and dispute recordsshould any additional clarification be needed.

Did not notify any creditor or send any thing to them. Took my money over 2 years. Then I still had to pay creditors. This company is a scam.

      Business Response

      Date: 04/14/2025

We take all concerns seriously and are committed to resolving this matter transparently and professionally.
The program was fully outlined at the time of enrollment, including disclosures regarding timelines, the nature of negotiations, and the process of building funds before creditor outreach could begin.
It is important to note that creditor communication and negotiation timelines can vary significantly based on multiple factors, including the status of the account, payment progress, and creditor cooperation. We understand the complainant's frustration and have escalated her file internally for immediate review.
We are currently in the process of reaching out directly to the complainant to provide a complete and detailed review of her account, including a breakdown of all payments made, services rendered, and the current status of any settlement activity. We regret any communication gaps or confusion she may have experienced and are committed to clarifying all aspects of her program.
We respectfully disagree with the characterization of our company as a "scam." Consumer Legal Group has a long-standing history of assisting clients with debt-related matters, and our services are delivered in accordance with all terms outlined in the signed client agreement.
We invite the complainant to contact our Client Relations team as soon as possible so we may address her concerns directly and explore a resolution.

In 2023 I was looking into ways that I could take care of my credit and absolve my credit debt and possibly get a clean slate Well, this company honestly calls me out of the blue sells me cupcakes and rainbows and never really actually gave me all of my options. the option that this company gave me they told me that it was gonna take $10,000 to absolve my debt and that I would start seeing results but its been almost 2 years. I received their phone call back in June 2023 and I have not seen a single result I have not gotten any written correspondences withthem. Only phone calls about my payments and every time *** wanted an update theyve given me generic answers saying oh were waiting on the creditors. And how theyre waiting on everyone else and how my debts need to transfer hands again and thats when theyll be able to resolve the debt. I called them now and they are now telling me that they do not offer bankruptcy and they sold me on getting the creditors to drop my debt problems instead of trying to file bankruptcy. They never actually told me which chapter was what and according to the phone call that I today they no longer offer bankruptcy as of 2024. They want $10,000 to help me absolve maybe twice that they said that they can only take care of certain ones not all of it talking to other lawyers because I am finding out more information. They are truly scamming me because it would not take $10,000 to file bankruptcy. All I want honestly is my money back because they really dont keep in contact and even when I do try and contact them and tell them about things, they say that theyre not taking care of that ***** even though that debt is connected to one of the debts that I did to them And Ive later found out that they dont actually take care of the debt. They just take your money they sell you on getting the absolved and then scam you as long as they can get you for.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We take all complaints seriously and are committed to addressing them in a thorough and respectful manner.
After reviewing your account, we would like to clarify a few important points to ensure transparency. You enrolled in a debt relief program through our firm in 2023. At the time of enrollment, you signed a written agreement and participated in a welcome call (WC), both of which clearly outlined the scope of services we provide. These materials explain that we are not a bankruptcy law firm and do not provide bankruptcy filing services. There is no indication in your file or during any prior communications that a bankruptcy filing was being offered or arranged.
It is our understanding that you may have only recently inquired about bankruptcywell after your enrollmentat which point you were informed that we no longer offer assistance with bankruptcy as of early 2024. Any suggestion that you were sold a bankruptcy service from the beginning is not supported by the documentation or communications in your file.
As for the status of your accounts, our records show that we have been actively working to resolve the debts you enrolled. It is not uncommon in debt dispute and negotiation programs for creditor responses and account ownership transfers to extend the timeline. These delays are beyond our direct control, but we remain committed to advocating on your behalf and pursuing resolution as outlined in your Service Agreement (SA).
We acknowledge your frustration regarding communications. Our intent is never to provide generic updates but to keep you informed based on the progress made with each creditor. We encourage you to contact our office directly for a full account review and case status.
We understand your desire for results and are happy to go over your file in detail to clarify any misunderstandings or explore possible resolutions. That said, we respectfully deny any allegations of fraud or misrepresentation. Our services were rendered in accordance with your signed agreement, and all program terms were disclosed at the time of enrollment.
We are committed to resolving your concerns and welcome the opportunity to speak with you further to find a constructive path forward.

In 2022 I entered into an agreement with Consumer Legal Group, CLG in order to pay off outstanding credit card debt I had with US Banks and *********************** The amount of debt I had was just over $20,000. *** started taking $292.50 from my bank account each month to go towards the debt. I was told at the time I began with them that my debt would be paid within 48 months. To date, *** has collected over $8,775.00 from me. I knew something was wrong when my credit score had not improved at all during this time. Because of a low credit score my Home and ************* rates are very high. I asked *** repeatedly why my credit score had not improved. They would always send me a standard explanation that it takes time for scores to change, etc. every time I questioned I would receive the same response. A couple of months ago beginning in January 2025 I started receiving ******* notices from an agency handling my debt to ********. They sent email and paper notices telling me the debt amount which was the same amount as it was when I started working with *** meaning *** hadnt sent them any money on my behalf. Ive not received anything thus far from ********************** to date but Im speculating that they havent received anything thus far as well!? *** asked *** to provide me with a detailed accounting of where my money has gone and how its been applied to my debt. To date I have not received this information. They continue to ignore this request. The only information I receive from them is asking me to provide them with my new bank account information so I can continue payments in order to achieve my goals! I did not make a payment in March 2025 as I had to get a new bank card as my old one had been compromised. Something is very very wrong with this company. Ive read a plethora of reviews about them and it seems a lot of their clients like me have had the same issues. Where has my money gone? Please help me!!!!!!

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the concerns raised in this complaint. We take all client feedback seriously and are committed to resolving misunderstandings with complete transparency and professionalism.
Upon review of the client's account, we confirm that the complainant enrolled in a debt resolution program with Consumer Legal Group in 2022. At enrollment, the client was provided with a complete program outline, including the estimated 48-month resolution timeline and a monthly draft of $292.50. This monthly draft covers several program components, including but not limited to contributions toward future settlements, legal representation (where applicable), administrative services, and ongoing client support. These terms were fully disclosed and acknowledged in the signed client engagement agreement.
It is essential to clarify that our services are focused on debt resolution through negotiation and dispute strategiesnot on immediate debt repayment or credit score improvement. As such, it is common for credit scores to initially decline or remain unchanged during the early phases of a resolution program. Credit improvement typically follows the successful negotiation and resolution of enrolled debts, which can vary based on creditor behavior and legal timelines.
As outlined in the agreement, a portion of these funds has been allocated to cover attorney oversight and administrative program costs. The remaining funds are maintained in a third-party escrow account designated for settlements negotiated on the client's behalf.
We understand the client's recent concerns regarding notices from a collection agency related to the ******* account. Our records indicate that the account remains active within the program, and our legal and negotiation teams are currently reviewing the matter to determine the appropriate next steps. The Discover account remains enrolled and will continue through the resolution process per program protocol.
Additionally, our team sends an itemized breakdown detailing the services rendered and actions taken on her behalf to address the client's repeated requests. This will include payment allocations, creditor communications, and any legal activity initiated. We regret any delay in providing this information and are expediting its delivery within seven business days.
We encourage the client to contact our ************************** to update her billing information to avoid disruption to the program. Continued engagement is vital to maintaining progress on the enrolled accounts.
Finally, we want to reiterate that Consumer Legal Group does not claim to provide bankruptcy services, and there is no indication that such representation was ever offered or promised in this case. Any suggestion of fraudulent activity is wholly inconsistent with the documentation, communications, and services rendered.
We remain committed to assisting the client with resolving her debts and welcome the opportunity to restore her confidence in our process.

I hired Consumet Legal Group to handle a debt consolidation solution for me in 2023. I had to pay them over 200 a month for *********************************************************************** paid. I had to hire another service to complete the credit card costing me 800 more dollars. Clean slate ******************

      Business Response

      Date: 03/31/2025

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the complainant's concerns. Consumer Legal Group is committed to providing high-quality legal services and ensuring that all clients are well-informed of the terms and scope of our representation before and during their enrollment in our program.
The complainant enrolled in our legal services program in 2023. At the time of enrollment, the client reviewed and signed the Service Agreement and accompanying Program Acknowledgements, which clearly outline the nature of our services. Specifically, on Page 10 of the Program Acknowledgements, the following disclosures are made:
"The monthly payments I am making go towards Consumer Legal Group PC attorney representation fees."
"The attorney fees I am paying will go to Consumer Legal Group PC and not to my creditors. The fees do not accumulate towards a settlement, and they will not be used to pay my creditors/debts."
"Consumer Legal Group is a law firm specializing in debt resolution, NOT debt settlement. I understand the difference."
Accordingly, *** does not advertise or operate as a debt consolidation firm. This distinction is essential and was made clear to the client before they participated in the program.
Regarding a court summons, we understand the emotional stress legal actions can cause, particularly when facing financial hardship. However, the possibility of litigation is a known and explained risk associated with unresolved debt that we clearly discuss with clients during enrollment. Upon receiving notice of the case, our legal team took prompt action. As documented in our internal case notes:

Upon receiving notice of the case, our legal team promptly contacted opposing counsel to request a dismissal on March 5, 2025, followed up on March 10 due to no response. When the client contacted us on March 12, we provided a timely update on our continued efforts to resolve the matter.
These actions demonstrate that our firm has remained engaged and proactive in addressing the client's legal matter by the scope of services outlined in her agreement.
We also know that the client has engaged a third-party company, ****************************** to assist with her remaining debts. While we respect her decision to seek alternative assistance, we must reiterate that the services we provided were rendered under a clear and agreed-upon legal services contract and not a debt consolidation or settlement model. The fees collected reflect the attorney representation services offered during her time in the program, including legal strategy development, case monitoring, creditor communication, and court-related correspondence.
That said, we take client satisfaction seriously and are always willing to evaluate refund requests on a case-by-case basis, especially when clients believe there has been a misunderstanding or disconnect. We invite the client to contact our office directly so that we may review her account in further detail and determine if any equitable refund is appropriate based on the timeline of services provided.

Our records confirm that you enrolled in a debt resolution program with Consumer Legal Group in September 2023. We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns and clarify the efforts made on your behalf throughout your engagement with our firm.
Consumer Law Group is fully committed to providing ethical, diligent, and results-driven legal services. We take any suggestion that we "take advantage" of clients very seriously and categorically reject such assertions. Our primary objective has always been to assist you in navigating complex debt-related legal matters while protecting your rights.
Since your enrollment, our legal team has consistently worked to defend your interests, including negotiating with creditors and protecting you from potential legal actions. This includes successfully securing a Stipulation for Dismissal and Settlement with ****************************, allowing you to avoid a judgment and resolve the account through structured monthly payments of $250.00 on a balance of $11,959.72. While this balance exceeded your enrolled amount, the resolution prevented more severe consequences such as wage garnishment or aggressive collection efforts. Although not the ideal outcome, it effectively tied up all legal loose ends and provided a definitive resolution to that matter.
Recognizing that the outcome was not as favorable as hoped, we extended a goodwill refund of your last five payments, despite those payments covering legitimate legal services under the terms of our agreement. This was done purely as a gesture of goodwill, as we were under no obligation to do so.
It is important to understand that debt resolution involving legal disputes is a complex process influenced by creditor cooperation and legal procedures, which can naturally extend timelines. The duration of your case reflected these factors, not any delay tactics on our part.
Regarding your BBB comment, accreditation is a voluntary membership and not a measure of a firms legality, professionalism, or success. Many reputable law firms, including ours, choose not to pursue it for business reasons unrelated to service quality.
Ultimately, you retained us for legal representationnot guaranteed debt elimination. We delivered those services, secured a settlement that protected you from harsher legal consequences, and provided additional financial relief through a refund. Therefore, your request for a full refund is inconsistent with the services rendered and the terms of our agreement.
With that, we consider this matter fully resolved. Your file will be closed, and we will not respond to further unfounded or repetitive claims regarding this issue. We remain available should you need assistance related to your active settlement terms or require documentation for your records.

I was looking for someone to help me, to be a mediator to for two loans. I bought a product and they created two loans saying that they would refinance into one after six months. That did not happen. So I tried another way for some else to mediate to try and get it taken care of. The outcome was just as bad as trying to work with lending point. I tried *** and it has now turned into a complete disaster. I have invested more than $4000, for nothing, they tell me to send them all the stuff I get, which I do and Im not getting anywhere to get this resolved. For what I have put in I could have paid off at least one loan and part of the other. I just want my money back so I can get this taken care of to pay these 2 loans off and get on with my life. I just want a refund so I can resolve and get these two loans taken care of. I live on social security and I need the refund so I can take care of this. I have already informed *** that I was not paying anymore and stopped it at the bank. I started making a payment of $306 and never missed a payment total being $4590.00. I have nothing to show for this investment except my phone blowing up with threats and unsolicited unknown calls on my phone and family members phones.

Me and my mom are disabled and enrolled with Consumer Legal Group after getting a cold call from ***** ******* telling us we could resolve our credit card debts through them. This was one of the biggest mistakes as CLG does nothing but take our money every month while doing very little in return. This is money that could have been used to pay our creditors. All the while our credit has been ruined. This is a breach of contract issue with a company that is taking advantage of ********** disabled people. I even got sued by ******* One while Consumer Legal Group did very little to represent me.

We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns regarding our services. We take client satisfaction seriously and want to clarify the work performed on your behalf.
Your complaint alleges that you were misled regarding our services and that we only drafted payments without providing assistance in resolving your debts. This is inaccurate, as demonstrated by the actions taken by our legal team on your behalf.
Following your first payment on March 11, 2024, disputes were promptly drafted and sent to each of the 10 enrolled creditors. While our firm actively works to challenge the validity of debts, we do not guarantee specific outcomes or timelines. As clearly stated in our Service Agreement on page 6 under section 2.6 Disclaimer of Guarantee:
"Importantly, pursuant to the relevant Rules of Professional Conduct applicable to lawyers and law firms, although we may express our opinions or beliefs concerning the matter or various courses of action and the results that might be anticipated, any such statement is intended to be an expression of opinion only, based on information available to us at the time, and must not be construed by you as a promise or guarantee of any particular result. No guarantees are possible in matters such as this. Further, if you do not pay your debts in a timely fashion, we cannot prevent or guarantee against collection actions, lawsuits, increases in the amount of what you may owe due to the addition of interest and fees by your creditors, and/or a reduction in your creditworthiness."
In addition to the dispute process, our legal team actively assisted you when your *********** account entered litigation, negotiating a settlement on your behalf. Moreover, when we attempted to address your concerns through a call with our lead attorney, you declined the offer and instead chose to pursue cancellation of your enrollment.
Regarding the refund, an initial refund of $150 was approved on March 13, 2025; however, due to a system error, a payment was inadvertently drafted instead of being refunded. Upon identifying this issue, we issued a goodwill refund of $370 initially scheduled on March 18th which had cleared March 21st, 2025, which was successfully processed to rectify the error.
Per our Service Agreement under section 4.0 Refund Policy (page 8), clients are permitted to cancel their enrollment at any time, but cancellation does not entitle them to a refund of fees already earned for services rendered:
"You may cancel this agreement at any time and will not be required to pay for any further services as of the date of cancellation. Fees accrued through termination shall remain due and owing. Any fee You pay, however, shall be deemed earned at the time it is paid and is not refundable subject to the foregoing."
While we regret that our program did not meet your expectations, we remain confident that our legal team diligently worked on your behalf as agreed upon in the Service Agreement. If you require any further clarification, please feel free to reach out.

We have only 7 more payments left with CLG Legal Group. We were told at the time of signing up with this group, that the money was going to pay off our credit card debt. Today the sheriff brought us a 4th legal document for court. The first 3 went to court, at each call no one from CLG represented us, or entered the calls. I feel misrepresented and lied to! There are now 2 judgements against me and there soon will be a second against my husband. Calls, emails and texts are not returned. But they take the money from my account immediately. I want my money returned in full as services were not rendered and I feel scammed by false information was represented by the company.

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the concerns raised in this complaint. Consumer Legal Group takes these matters seriously and remains committed to providing a transparent and professional client experience.

Upon reviewing the client's file, we wish to clarify several key points and timelines. Our records confirm that our legal team has been actively engaged in attempts to support the client, including multiple calls and email communications.

Most recently, we attempted to reach the client directly to assist with promptly submitting the complete summons documentation related to the most recent court matter. Despite these outreach efforts, we have not yet received the documents necessary for our legal team to conduct a proper review or take further action.

It is important to emphasize that CLG cannot appear or provide court representation without timely notice and access to the full legal documents. Per our retainer and client services agreement, clients are responsible for promptly notifying the firm of any legal actions, summons, or hearing dates and submitting those materials through the designated communication channels. In this case, the notification and document delivery delays significantly hindered our ability to intervene on the client's behalf.

Additionally, we must respectfully clarify the nature of our services. As outlined at the time of enrollment, CLG provides legal support to negotiate and resolve unsecured debt mattersnot guaranteed debt payoff. Funds collected are applied toward legal services, case analysis, and, where appropriate, negotiation or litigation support. These services are provided under the scope of the engagement agreement the client reviewed and accepted.

We understand that the client has experienced stress and dissatisfaction due to recent legal developments, including judgments entered by default.

However, our ability to provide effective representation depends on active participation and timely cooperation from the client.

We remain committed to resolving this matter constructively. We request that the client provide the complete summons documentation immediately so our legal department can assess the current situation and determine whether further support or possible restitution may be appropriate. We also encourage the client to reply to our recent communications or provide their next available time to speak directly with our legal supervisor regarding the next steps.
