    BBB files indicate a Pattern of Complaints regarding billing practices, customer service and fulfillment issues for Consumer Legal Group, P.C. BBB has noted a marked increase in complaint filings against the company since 2023. A number of consumers report that once they enroll with the debt relief program offered by CLG, despite making payments, these consumers claim the program is having no impact on the amount of debt they owe. Some consumers even allege the insufficiency of the program's administration results in adverse collections or legal action. Several complaints also claim the customer service representatives are mispresenting the scope of CLG’s services. Complainants stated that when signing up they are assured that legal representation against creditors will be provided, but are later supposedly informed by CLG account representatives that they do not provide those services. Consumers who wish to cancel claim that they are unable to receive a refund, despite assurances from CLG representatives when they signed up that they can cancel the program and have their money returned. 

    On 5/22/2024, BBB has contacted Consumer Legal Group, P.C. and requested their voluntary cooperation in addressing the identified issues in the Pattern of Complaints. As of June 2024, the company has responded to BBB and advised of its ongoing work to implement corrective measures and enhance its customer service practices.

      I was solicited by Consumer Legal Group to settle an unsecured debt with my credit union. I was told that this was a government hardship program to help people with a lot of debt. After 3 months I finally tracked down the communications that were sent to the 3 credit bureaus and my credit union. The communication sent had falsehoods in it. It said that I said the loan was not legitimate (lie number one) and it said that I would file for bankruptcy if needed (lie number two). After speaking with a CLG paralegal it was explained that this could still go to court and I might still be required to pay the original loan. I NEVER agreed to perjure myself or lie in any way.

      Consumer legal group I hired them to consolidate and negotiate a settlement for my credit cards they told me I didn't have to do anything just pay them each month and they would handle everything they did nothing two of the credit cards took me to collections one of them has already finished collections now I told consumer legal group I don't want to be with him anymore after they did nothing they do not want to return my money $4, ****** all they did was take money out of my bank account every month and they did nothing they ripped me off now they do not want to give me my money back I advise you do not use this company they are crooks they stole my money and they'll steal yours too when I contacted them and told told them I wanted a refund they said no that they have no return policy and from what I can tell they got to do nothing policy you hire them they take your money and they don't do anything I warn you this is a rip off scam do not sign with consumer legal group

      Below we have provided proof of our attempts to resolve this issue for you, however it was difficult to find a solution given your commitment to constantly degrading of our staff. Your use of vulgar & hateful language and threatening violence made it difficult for us to communicate with you.

      Per your signed service agreement, it can take us anywhere from ***** months for our team to resolve or negotiate your accounts. We cannot prevent any debt from being sold to collections however we are prepared to represent you regardless of circumstance. A debt being sold to collections may be an advantage regarding your case as debt collectors often don't have the necessary documentation to verify the validity of your debt. If debt collectors cannot legally prove you're liable for your debt they must ease collection efforts.

      I was paying them monthly to help with my debt and represent me with my creditors and they told me to let them know when I get a letter and to ignore the phone calls and emails from them attempting to collect my debts and they would handle it and I dont believe they did anything because now I have a civil action lawsuit filed against me and have to go to court because I thought they were helping me with all of this and they did not.

      I was told when signing up with this company that they would begin working with our creditors immediately and start repairing our credit, when in fact we have already paid $436.17 per month for four months for a total of $1,744.68, and this would be five, if we continued to see absolutely no results except our credit scores go down. They never give status updates or anything except to let us know that they're going to make another withdrawl from our account. We were mislead about the services this company offers and feel that they took advantage of our situation. After speaking to other companies we were told we should see some type of result within 60 days.

      Do not trust this company they told me they were there was going to they were going to help me bring my credit cards down in one of my loans also and this they told me that my credit score was going to go down and at the time my credit my credit score was 706 anyway down to below 500. The room my credit score and I asked you to stop charge me and also requested for refund which they never they denied my refund they ruin my credit now can get a loan in my in my situation got worse

      I had an account with LPG which was transferred to CLG without even notifying me. When I called LPG for updates they finally stated my account was transferred to CLG and that they will be contacting me for a welcome phone call which was never completed. I called CLG numerous time asking to see what was being done on my behalf as far as student loan invalidation. They always had a different answer, never showed me any actual proof of the work they claimed to be doing. I kept calling my student loan provider and they never once received ANY communication from LPG stating that they were representing me. LPG swore they were sending cease and desist letters to my student loan servicing company which I never saw a copy of and my student loans services never received. I terminated the agreement after 6 months and now Im being told I cant receive any of the money back I paid because every dollar went towards lawyers working the debt resolution. NEVER DID I SPEAK TO A LAWYER from LPG and NEVER did I see any real proof that they were working on anything for me. This company has done nothing for me but take my money and make false claims to be working on invalidating my student loans. My money needs to be refunded

      Was client of LPG, sold to CLG with no explanation. Recieved paperwork they missed a court date to resolve a debt. They blamed me. ****** later recieve paperwork showing I'm being sued. I call them and talk about past contract. An "attorney" told me they follow same contract but have no information about my payments being used to pay debts they cannot resolve. (Which is what LPG told me). Then they tell me an employee went on leave and did nothing with my case since May so that's why nothing was touched. After that I cancel serviced in September, they stopped payments. Now October they took another payment. Had a supervisor get on the phone and lie to me that I would have refund in 1-2 days and on 3rd day called back and another lady said that he did not even approve the refund. I entered this "debt relief program" in 2020 and have paid $400 a month ever since and now in have nothing to show. They lie, they do not communicate with you or each other, they all have different stories. They do not return phone calls until 5 min before the close and it usually only rings twice before they hang up and then you can't get them back on phone bc they're closed. This place needs shut down and someone needs to be help responsible for the money that everyone has been scammed out of.

      hey ach withdrawals from my account at PNC to account number ************************* c l g amount ****** sept 11 2023 and each month back to January. They got my bank info from ******************* Group which allegedly gave six different groups people's accounts for debt consolidation and debt removal.I called consumer Legal Group and they told me that they have no set account for the funds that they have received and there was no way that I could verify or get any of the money back from them!

      Phone call from ************** | "****" who claimed to be a Manager, confirmed the company name is "Consumer Legal Group" - *********************** Called me twice in violation of the Federal DO NOT CALL list, the TELEPHONE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT OF **** and the TELEMARKETING SALES RULES (DNC. TCPA ****, TSR). They do NOT have my PRIOR WRITTEN CONSENT (PWC) to contact me.This is harassment, illegal and unlawful activity that must be stopped that attacks millions of Americans every day. Furthermore, I was mislead to believe I would get an email from ****** confirming that I was added to their internal DO NOT CALL list, however, as of yet, I have not received that email - He didn't even try to confirm the email address provided. He did not apologise and was extremely quick to hang up the phone on me. I was also told that allegedly they call numbers from people filling out forms, requesting call backs etc - My number is nowhere there, no proof could be provided. They try to quickly cover this up.

      I had an account with LPG which was transferred to CLG without my knowledge and was never contacted by CLG to set up any type of account with them or gain access to any client information just bank drafts from my account so I terminated the agreement and now Im being told I cant receive any of the money back I paid them over the past 16 months because every dollar went towards lawyers working the debt resolution for *********** which whom I never had any contact with or received any update from and this is from LPG and CLG. This company has done nothing for me but yet tell me the $464 I was paying them every month went to lawyers fees. My money needs to be refunded
