On 03/06/2025, I had a Talkiatry visit scheduled. I contacted Talkiatry to ask about the possibility of canceling or rescheduling because I woke up severely ill with an extremely hoarse voice and was hardly able to speak, so I was worried the provider would not be able to hear me. I didnt receive any response, so a few minutes later I went back to the app to join the visit remotely and decided to just try my best to be able to speak audibly, but it wasnt allowing me to join. I was never able to join and still never received any actual response from a person aside from automatic links to reschedule when it was too late. After the fact, I was searching for Talkiatry emails to find the reschedule link again, and I noticed there was an email that didnt go to my primary inbox that said there technical difficulties on their end at the time of my appointment and I wouldve had to join via a different link that was in the email. This was from a different email address than any of my other Talkiatry emails, which might be why I didnt see it until it was too late since it didnt go to my normal inbox. I was billed $100 for a no-show fee, but I am unable to afford that, and I had no way of joining without seeing that email that was only sent 9 minutes prior to the time of my appointment. The email said Apologies, but due to some technical difficulties on our end, we had to update your visit link for your appointment today. I think it wouldve been more reasonable to have still charged the no-show fee if I hadnt still tried to join since I ultimately was unable to due to their technical difficulties.Customer Answer

I received service from talkiatry on 3/3/2025. I was made to assume not only that my insurance would cover the cost but that said cost would be in the range of $40 for in network coverage (which they confirmed i had as seen in the screenshot attached) they instead charged me $600 dollars for a 45 minute call in which i received no medication or therapy. It was an intake appointment and they in no way described to me that it would cost this much or that my insurance would only discount it by a small amount. My main complaint is the misleading nature of this whole process. If this had been transparent i would NOT have gone through with this and this feels extremely predatory. Especially with them advertising costs as low as $30 (which is insane when they charge $600). Not to mention the fact that the appointment didnt even provide me with any value. I got no diagnosis, no medications to resolve my issues, and no therapy. It was entirely a get to know me basic information transfer which could have been handled via email.Initial Complaint

On 2/11/2025, Talkiatry confirmed my appointment for 3/03/2025 0800pm EST with **** *******. I was notified later that day that the appointment had been cancelled due to the provider not being available. I did not reschedule this appointment for another date. I received a notice that I had an upcoming appointment via email on 2/23 which confused me. Turns out they rescheduled my appointment for 2/24, without my knowledge. I called to cancel this appointment due to the fact that I did not make it nor intend on rescheduling and the the representative confirmed they would waive the $100 cancellation fee for the appointment I didnt make. I am now receiving periodic billing notifications of the $100 amount I was told would not be billed. I would like these requests to pay to stop and the bill to be removed as originally agreed.Customer Answer

I went through the time-consuming process of getting setup with Talkiatry- a call with a Care Coordinator, insurance verification, 3 questionaries - only to have my appointment cancelled less than 15 hours before my appointment on the false premise that my insurance had lapsed. I was relying upon this appointment to get refills for my critical psychiatric meds. Now I will need to make an expensive appointment with an urgent care simply to obtain refills. Talkiatry requires 48 hours or more beforehand to cancel an appointment or they will charge $100. They should owe me $100 for cancelling less than 15 hours before.Initial Complaint

I booked an 2 weeks appointment that was two weeks out and was very excited about meeting with a physiologist in my area. The day of the appointment they canceled via email that morning due to an emergency. I did reschedule for 2 weeks later knowing that things happen and AGAIN, that morning of that appointment the provider was unable to see me due to an emergency...I was contacted this last time on the phone and it wasn't the lady that called fault as I'm sure she is just doing her job in a call center but i did tell her...My appointment isn't life-threatening but what if someone's was and you have now canceled on them when they needed you the most???? It is really sad to think that this is just a money making site by what I read and really not helping people. Also if they would have charged me $100 if I was to cancel without 24 hours notice then why aren't they paying me for my time???? I will not be rescheduling or ever using this site again.Initial Complaint

I am filing this complaint against Talkiatry due to inaccurate billing and misrepresentation of services provided during my psychiatric appointments on November 8, 2024, and November 20, 2024. Despite being charged for psychotherapy services, no such therapy was provided in these sessions. On 11/8/2024, I had an initial appointment with a Talkiatry psychiatrist. During this visit, the provider only took my medical history and did not make any medical decisions or provide any treatment. However, I was billed under CPT code *****, which requires medical decision-making of moderate complexity, which did not occur. Additionally, I was charged under CPT code *****, which is for additional supportive therapy, yet no psychotherapy, psychoeducation, or structured therapeutic intervention was provided. On 11/20/2024, I had a follow-up visit, during which I was finally prescribed medication. While some decision-making occurred, I was also billed for CPT code *****, which is again for psychotherapy, despite the fact that no psychotherapy took placeonly medication discussion and a brief conversation about my career.I reached out to Talkiatry to dispute these charges, as billing codes should accurately reflect the services received. Instead of addressing my concerns, they responded with a generic explanation of their billing process, failing to acknowledge that no psychotherapy was performed. My insurance provider contacted them, but Talkiatry insisted that their billing was correct, effectively shutting down any resolution process.I am now left with an unfair bill for services I did not receive, totaling $687.81. I am requesting a formal review and a refund for the psychotherapy services that were incorrectly billed.Talkiatrys billing practices are misleading, and their refusal to acknowledge incorrect charges demonstrates a lack of transparency. I am seeking BBB to hold this company accountable for misrepresentation of services and improper medical billing.Customer Answer

I reached out to check my insurance on 9/6/24 to see if I would be able to afford this service before proceeding with my appointment. I received a reply on 9/9/24 stating, "We verified your insurance *********** were in-network. According to your plan, your deductible is [$0.00], your copay is [$0.00], and your coinsurance is [0%]. "Based on this information, I proceeded with an appointment on 9/10/24. On 10/01/2024, I received a bill stating my balance after insurance is $415.73. I have reached out to Talkiatry customer service regarding this issue and they responded with my deductible information and stated if I had further questions to contact my insurance.I do have a deductible, however certain services are covered prior to my deductible being met. Based on the confirmation email I received from Talkiatry, I assumed this would be one of those covered services. They now will not do anything to help me, nor take any accountability for the incorrect and misleading information they provided to me prior to my appointment. It's a shame that these companies can tell someone whatever they want, even IN WRITING, and then profit off of scamming someone out of hundreds of dollars.Customer Answer

I made an appointment to speak with a provider at Talkiatry and waited almost a month and a half for my appointment to come. The morning of my call I received an email with a link to join my appointment and per the instructions joined the call earlier than my appointment time. I waited in my telehealth call at the link they sent me for 30 minutes without any provider joining the call. During this wait I received 2 separate calls to my cellphone which I answered and stayed on the phone for at least a minute attempting to speak to whoever was calling without them saying a word. When I called this number back after their second call attempt it was sure enough Talkiatrys corporate line, I followed the prompts to speak to an actual person and while on the call he acknowledged that the provider was trying to join our call but it appeared there was a technical issue preventing this, mean while this whole time my computer is open in front of me and Im still sitting in the call at the link they sent. As this *** attempted to send me a new link I received an appointment cancellation and reschedule email. Of course the next available appointment was at least another two weeks out so at this point I am done with them. Then this morning I get an email they are billing me for a no show. What a joke, especially because they can send you a bill on a Saturday but you call in and the billing department is magically only in Mon-Fri. They are going to end up getting someone seriously hurt pulling this bs.Customer Answer

My first appointment was on 3/15/2024, where I was charged $404.22 for codes ***** (new patient) and ***** (additional therapy). This appointment was quite long, so while I was surprised at the extreme cost, it didn't immediately show red flags. On 4/17/2024, I had a follow up appointment with the provider and was billed $283.59, which was made up of two billing codes: ***** - Defined by Talkiatry as: A virtual visit for a returning patient to talk about their medications. If your clinician provided supportive therapy too, that might be billed separately with a different code) Defined by my insurance as: *************** visit, long ***** Defined by Talkiatry as: During your visit, in addition to medical services, your clinician uses psychotherapeutic techniques (like supportive psychotherapy, psychoeducation, or cognitive behavioral therapy) to help you explore your emotions, understand your mental health, and develop strategies for feeling better. Defined by my insurance as: Medical/professional services *********** provided in code ***** is deceptive, I'm genuinely confused as to how 25 minutes is a "long" doctor's visit. The services provided in code ***** were never rendered. I was not provided any additional "therapies". My provider simply talked the entire time about himself, and renewed my medicine. The appointment lasted 25 total minutes, starting at 11:32 AM and ending at 11:57 AM. When contesting the bill, I was told by Talkiatry that appointments that EXCEED 15 minutes are automatically billed code ***** despite what services are rendered. On 7/17/2024, I had another appointment with the provider. Again, I was billed $283.59 for the same two codes defined above. This appointment began at 11:38 am and ended at 11:53 am, lasting a total of 15 minutes, not exceeding. I attempted to contest this bill 3 separate times with the billing department and attempted to contest with my insurance (***) to no avail.Initial Complaint

I input my insurance information through ****** and scheduled an appointment. They verified my insurance and stated in email dated 4/22/24 that they are in network and I have a $0 copay. Then after my appointment with Dr. ******** **** DO they sent me a bill for hundreds of dollars saying my insurance wasn't accepted. This is a bait and switch scam. Now they are hounding me and sending my bill to collections. Super unethical practices.
