This company is great at selling but terrible at follow through. I was told the dumpstet I rented could be placed between 8am-noon and the driver would call me with ETA so I could be present and I gave specific instructions on placement. None of this was followed and the results were famage to my lawn. The company's excuse was essential that specific requests cannot always be followed. Essentially, since they take your money up front when the reservation is made, they don't care who they suncontract out to or what the delivery people do.

      Business response

      02/29/2024

While our team can put in a request for a call while the driver is en route, there is no guarantee or requirement for this to be fulfilled as was communicated to the customer. Our drivers value the safety of our customer's property, and this dumpster was placed to the best of the driver's ability, as close to the garage as possible as requested. Given the driveway is a dirt road, the weather conditions resulted in the driveway turning into mud. Resultantly, our claims department has determined that this damage was not caused by negligence, but that the property was not able to support the weight of the dumpster, truck, and materials. Per our mutually agreed upon Terms of Service, we are not held accountable for any damage that is a result of the structural integrity of the property. The damage was unavoidable and would have resulted from being placed at any point along the customer's driveway, and from any dumpster company providing service to this location. We are truly sympathetic but customers who rent dumpsters from any company incur an inherent risk of damage. Based on the details of this claim, we are not liable to provide any credit.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

At this point I see that you do not stand by verbal agreements and promises made by your sales team. You also do not hold any accountability on your drivers. You review situations internally and seem to have a list of answers your staff is practiced in giving; as multiple people gave me the same answers you just wrote before anyone even "looked into" the situation.  Had my instructions been followed the driver would not have needed to turn at all and would have remained on the compacted and rocky drive area rather than the soft hilly yard. I am not satisfied with your internal review of the situation or determination, but I am glad to be done with your company. And should I need another dumpster I will know to use a better company.

In short, the company is a well-organized scam with a business model that lacks transparency and prevents customers from any opportunity to defend themselves. How did I come to this conclusion? Here is a story. I chose Budget Dumpster based on a quick internet search because of its attractive rates, informative website, promise of exceptional service, and no hidden fees. I ordered two dumpsters (a 30 and a 20-yarder) from them in January. I have to say that the service was outstanding. My representative, ***, was polite and professional. They delivered and picked up both dumpsters on time. The fun started a week later when I noticed two additional charges on my credit card totaling about $700. I called ***, who politely forwarded me to a billing department where they explained the overage charges, specifically that I paid for 3 tons between the two dumpsters but loaded 7 tons instead. I have several problems with that claim. 1) I ordered the dumpsters to clean up my apartment after tenants and prepare it for renovation. Anyone with an engineering background or some common sense should understand that it is physically impossible for old furniture, kitchen cabinets, household trash, an old plastic bathtub, and a toilet bowl to weigh even half of that weight. The 7-ton claim is reasonable for a concrete driveway renovation, not an apartment cleanup. 2) The company does not provide a framework for transparency for customers to dispute overage charges. Hundreds of similar complaints on BBB and Yelp suggest we can’t take these charges on trust. 3) I did not authorize the overage charges. Nothing prevents Budget Dumpster from charging my card again for some other reason. Please stay away from them.

      Business response

      02/20/2024

We appreciate the kind feedback regarding our representative, as customer service is our top priority; we will be sure to share this feedback with ***. Please be assured that the dumpsters are weighed by a certified weighmaster, in a state regulated process independent of our company, and the overage reflects the final weight of the dumpster. The details of the prorated overage pricing model were clearly explained at the time of the order. To clarify, the customer did not receive an overage for 7 tons, rather the first dumpster was overweight by 2.2 tons and the second was overweight by 1.78 tons. Our team has the weight tickets from the landfill verifying these charges. While we understand this charge may have been unexpected, the disposal of many lightweight items can result in a heavy final weight, just the same as a few heavy items. Ultimately, these charges are valid and no adjustments will be made.

Dear Budget Dumpster, when you charge a customer, the burden of proof is on you. So far, the only document I’ve received is the invoice indicating that you removed ~7 tons of trash (3 tons I paid for + 3.98 overage) from a 1000-square-foot apartment. Forgive me, but the only way to get to this number is to throw away several concert-size grand pianos and a total Olympic weightlifting gym, not old **** furniture, cabinets, one bathtub, toilet bowl, etc. I believe more in common sense than in your “certified weighmaster, in a state-regulated process,” which sounds like a combination of buzzwords. And yes, I would like to see that ticket to learn more about that vendor, the before and after weighing methodology, and more. As I said, the burden of proof is on you!

Furthermore, since you mentioned the “disposal of many lightweight items,” let me point out that a 30-yard dumpster came with layers of frozen dirt at the bottom and wall surfaces. How much dirt was there? Half a ton? I hope your certified weighmaster has a record of it.

Your business model has too many moving parts and built-in assumptions to trust you. Several hundred similar complaints to BBB and Yelp reviews testify to that fact. At the risk of repeating myself, I believe my fellow customers more than I trust my fellow customers more than your certified waste management vendor partner.

      Regards,

Additional documentation verifying the final weights of both dumpsters has been received from the landfill and provided to the customer. The dumpsters are priced based on weight, and the prorated overage pricing model was explained verbally at the time of order and documented in the service agreement provided to the customer. It remains the customer’s responsibility to cover the cost of any weight beyond the pre-purchased limit. Our website offers many easily accessible and helpful resources ***********************************************************************) advising on dumpster sizes, as well as a weight calculator, in an effort to help our customers to make informed decisions. Additionally, our team would have been happy to document the implied dirt in the container and provide a reasonable credit had this matter been brought to our team's attention during the time of the rental. Our team has thoroughly reviewed this matter and a billing adjustment will not be provided as the customer was properly informed of and agreed to the pre-purchased limit

[Thank you, Budget Dumpster, for sending me the invoice from ***** ********. Interestingly, their weight limits for 30- and 20-yard dumpsters are 4 and 3 tons, respectively, with the same rates that you charged me. I don’t think an average Joe gets a better deal than a bulk buyer like yourself. So, is your business model to deliberately cut the weight limits in half or more and solely rely on overage charges? In addition, the redacted $ columns in the invoice suggest you skim a little more on the top again )) The whole thing doesn’t pass the smell test.

I still believe having 7 tons of anything in an apartment is impossible. Still, even if it is, I’m well within weight limits, according to your certified and regulated landfill partner.]

I had a 30-yard dumpster delivered and was told the price was $635 and to use it for 10 days. They said to make sure you request a pickup before the 10 days expire by using the online portal they emailed. My last day of service was 2/17/24 and I requested a pickup and I was finished with the dumpster on 2/16/24. From what I was told they would pick it up at their next available pickup, but no it didn't work that way. I had to select a date for them to pick it up. I tried requesting the pickup on 2/17, 2/18, 2/19, 2/20, and 2/21 but the online portal didn't have any availability, my first available pickup date online was 2/22/24. I received an email invoice charging me an extra $125 for additional days. I spoke with David on the phone and he said that his systems show they have availability before then and since I selected 2/22/24 I'm being charged but he's willing to credit my credit card $50. I told him NO I should receive the whole $125 due to their system not allowing me to request a sooner pickup. He argued with me and pretty much called me a liar without actually saying I was lying. 10 minutes later David called me back and said he was crediting the full $125 because their system started charging extra days of use on the wrong date. Beware Budget Dumpster is a shady company and I will not be doing business with them again.

We are sorry to hear of the customer's frustration regarding scheduling. Our goal is to provide excellent customer service and a credit of $125 has been issued which fully covers the additional extension fee. A refund for the dumpster itself will not be issued since the service was successfully used and rendered.

I hired budget dumpster for $543. I had used them before and even referred them to my friends. I had no issues this first time. The most recent time (1/26/24) they claimed that I had filled the dumpster with 6.8 tons. This is absolutely fraud--there is no way that cardboard and demoed particle board wood cabinets (4) equaled or exceeded the weight of 3 cars! This seems to be a way to scam customers into paying double.

I reject the fraudulent claim that the weight of what I put in the dumpster was 6.8 tons.  That is the equivalent to 3 cars!  I did not even fill the dumpster and what was in there was four demoed particle board cabinets and cardboard boxes--nowhere near 2 tons let alone 6.8 tons.  I have attempted to contact the entity that weighed the dumpster but there is no phone number or contact information on the invoice nor is there a signature.
I always pay what I owe--this is a travesty and absurd.  6.8 tons is laughable.  I have included a photo of what was placed into the dumpster minus some cardboard boxes that I had added later that evening.

Tt remains the customer’s responsibility to cover the cost of any weight beyond the pre-purchased limit. We have provided the customer with the weight ticket from the landfill, further validating this overage charge. While the dumpster may not have been overfilled, materials disposed of that do not have a lot of volume can have heavy tonnage, and disposing of many lightweight items can result in a heavy final weight. Ultimately, all proper protocols were followed and this charge remains valid.

The weight ticket from the landfill is unsigned and therefore invalid.  This is a fraudulent charge.  I would like to speak with a representative from the landfill.  The operator that allegedly wrote 6.8 tons is not listed nor is there a phone number.  I reject that these are valid charges--this is clearly fraudulent and invalid.  Again 6.8 tons from what I put in the dumpster is not physically possible.  Clearly attempted fraud and disgustingly immoral business practices at play.  I may seek legal action in this matter.

The weight ticket is a landfill record; we do not control the landfill's operations as the dumpsters are weighed by a certified weighmaster, in a state regulated process independent of our company. The weighmaster is listed on the weight ticket, however, it is important to note that the inclusion of a phone number does not alter the validity of the final weight of the dumpster. The ticket includes the gross, net, and tare weight, revealing how much the truck weighed upon arrival (with the debris included) and then how much it weighed after the debris was dumped. In the interest of transparency regarding weight limits, our website offers many easily accessible and helpful resources ************************************************************************ advising on dumpster sizes, as well as a weight calculator, in an effort to help our customers to make informed decisions. The customer is required to cover the cost of any weight beyond the pre-purchased limit.

The weight ticket was not signed and is therefore invalid.  You ignored that point. The weight ticket clearly states at the bottom that "THIS IS TO CERTIFY that the following described commodity was weighed, measured, or counted by a a weighmaster, whose signature is on this certificate, who is a recognized authority of accuracy, as prescribed by Chapter 7 (commencing with Section 12700) of the ********** Business and Professions code, administered by the Division of Measurement Standards of the ********** Department of Food and Agriculture."   There is a 6.8 partially circled but no signature in either place at the top or the bottom of the ticket.  No certification is the same as invalid.  I requested a phone number to follow up with the weighmaster directly but the number for the business is not listed--you falsely claim it is included.

I have operated in good faith.  Your business does not.  I will follow up with the appropriate ********** agencies as well and let them know of this fraud you keep standing by.

Very disappointing.  6.8 tons!  Not even possible unless you add concrete and bricks and stone--none of which I added.

We understand the concern. We took additional steps to call this landfill to verify that this record is correct. The landfill validated the weight ticket and confirmed that the electric signature of ***** *******z on the weight ticket fulfills their requirement for a signature. The customer is encouraged to contact the landfill directly. The weight ticket has all the proper information present for the customer to be in contact with that third party. As this is a landfill record, not a record from our company; it was provided as an additional courtesy to this customer, we will not have any further discussions on this matter. We ask that this matter be marked as resolved as the weight ticket remains valid and the customer remains responsible for paying this invoice.

Despite their misrepresentations, this matter is not resolved.  The alleged "Budget Dumpster" company refers to "the electric signature of ***** *******z on the weight ticket."   There is no electric signature nor is there an electronic signature on the weight ticket for that matter.   The real issue remains the fraudulent claim that I filled their dumpster with 6.8 tons of household waste which is an impossibility.  Rather than own up to the fact that they are mistaken, or that there was confusion with the wrong container, the company has been anything but courteous.  I deeply regret referring my friends to also use this disreputable company and advise others to avoid them at all costs--because despite the word "Budget" in their company name it will cost you plenty more than you bargain for--roughly double than they initially quote you and then they will charge you without warning as they did me.  They are dishonest, mean spirited and run a fraudulent operation--avoid them like the plague!

In all my experiences renovating numerous projects as a landlord and real estate investor, Budget Dumpster is the worst company I have ever dealt with, because: 1) as stated in other reviews, they do not pick up your dumpster on time and cite delays that are made up. In my case, they delayed my pickup by 11 days. This caused delays in receiving materials for our landscaping project, as the dumpster occupied the driveway. If you are planning on delivering a dumpster this to public roadway via encroachment permit, don't even consider Budget Dumpster, as you will likely receive multiple fines. 2) I called Budget Dumpster 5 times to check on status of pick-up. Each time, they lied and said that they would pick-up within an additional 1-2 days, and cited delays because of landfill delays. When they called back to give me this timeline update, they called for 1ms, hung up, then texted saying "we tried calling you to"... 3) before loading the dumpster, I received text confirmation that I could load -- without extra fees -- some wood into the dumpster filled by large majority with concrete. Upon pickup, they charged me a $200 sorting fee for said wood. They are crooks. 4) When trying to reason with this company, ****** * cut me off multiple times is total disregard to the fact that they totally failed and that the sorting fee was unjustified. 5) I now have to go through the process of disputing all charges by Budget Dumpster, costing me more time.

Date of original transaction: September 27, 2023 Disputed Transaction amount: $96.00 Product: 10 yard dumpster rental - Construction Debris Only - 1 ton weight limit The nature of the dispute is that Budget Dumpster is claiming that we went over the one ton weight limit and is now attempting to charge us $96.00 in overage costs. They have not attempted to clear this up at all which makes this feel like a scam. The card they had on file was an old card and the bank issued a new card. It was a coincidence they couldn't charge the card. I called them to ask why they were trying to charge me $96.00 and they stated it was because of a weight overage of.96 tons for a total of 1.96 tons. I explained that was impossible and there had been a mistake. Our dumpster was mostly empty, we didn't have that much debris, and they had the wrong pick up date. We were told they would pick up on Tuesday 10/10 but they showed up unexpectedly on 10/07. They denied there was a mistake and continued to attempt to charge the card. We had multiple exchanges before they agreed to provide the weight ticket. They provided the weight ticket which showed a 30 yard dumpster was weighed on 10/10. Ours was a 10 yard dumpster picked up on 10/07 and we were told by Devin W. on Thursday, November 2 at 5:22 PM that, "Your dumpster was removed from your site, then taken directly to the landfill for disposal." Even after providing the weight ticket showing they weighed a 30 yard dumpster, they are still attempting to charge me. I've attached copies of the following: - invoice showing we ordered a 10 yard dumpster. - confirmation of weight showing they are claiming a 10 yard dumpster was weighed. - weight ticket showing a 30 yard dumpster weigh in. - the $96.00 overage charge invoice. We apologize that this customer is disappointed with the additional charge. The terms of the overage billing structure were provided to the customer at the time the order was placed. While the dumpster may not have been overfilled, materials disposed of that do not have a lot of volume can have heavy tonnage. Additionally, the disposal of many lightweight items can result in a heavy final weight. Our team has been in contact with our dispatch, who have apologized for the clerical error with a 30 yd dumpster listed instead of the correct 10 yd dumpster that the customer received. We have confirmed that the ticket number for this customer is 205162, which is reflected on the ticket. The dumpster was removed on 10/9 and taken to the transfer station where it was weighed on 10/10. We understand that the customer wants no further contact from our company, however, this charge is valid and payment is due.

The local Budget Dumpster driver damaged our property- smashing metal raised beds in our yard- while delivering the dumpster. the company is relying solely on the account of the driver, not ours, and is denying they are at fault. We have given many photos showing the damage, and have a first hand account of the the driver making a three point turn backing out of our driveway, in direct line of the planters. But the company is flatly denying blame. We've told them the repairs would cost us $200-250, so it's not even a large sum, it's the principle.

I ordered a 20ft dumpster to be delivered Monday September 18, 2023. I paid $403.00 on August 25, 2023. A man in a ******* truck with a dumpster (not sure how to spell it), sit out in front of my house maybe 5 minutes but never called or knocked on my door and I never went to talk to him because I ordered from Budget Dumpster and since this information was no where on the truck and the man wasn't getting out to come to the door, I thought it wasn't for me. After that I receive an email saying that he couldn't drop the dumpster and it will cost me $150.00. I do know that contract said if they can't drop the dumpster it would cost me $150.00, but he didn't try to drop it because he never even knocked on my door or called me to do this. If there was a problem that I was unaware of then he should have knocked on the door and said something I would have told him to put it in the yard. I know that this dumpster will fit in the driveway 3 different ways because me and and an UPS man measured it, not to mention my yard was available(all I had to do was move my car). I am 53 years old with bad knees and had to work overtime to get this dumpster and scheduled a vacation to use it and because this man wouldn't knock on my door or call me he got $150.00 from me. I did not know that he was Budget Dumpster he drove a ******* truck(or however it is spelled). I would like my $150.00 back because I trusted these folks to drop a dumpster and instead they stole $150.00 from me. Budget Dumpster is in the process of refunding $403.00 dollars back to my account which they say will take 2-5 business days but, they took $150.00 more out of my account. I did not approve the 150.00 extra to come out of my account. If I thought that a 20ft dumpster wouldn't have fit I would have not ordered one because I would not have wanted to give $150.00 away for free.

We apologize that we were unable to complete the customer's order as requested, as our team was unable to safely deliver the container in the driveway. Additionally, yard placement was not possible, in order to protect the customer's property, due to the presence of a water meter, which would risk bursting the water lines. Our team has been in contact with the customer. We apologize that we were unable to complete the customer's order as requested, as our team was unable to safely deliver the container in the driveway. Additionally, yard placement was not possible, in order to protect the customer's property, due to the presence of a water meter, which would risk bursting the water lines. Our team has been in contact with the customer to offer a smaller dumpster in an effort to accommodate driveway placement, however, the customer elected to cancel the order. We regret that we were unable to work with the customer, but the charge remains valid.

We sincerely apologize for this negative experience. This customer was refunded in full and was notified of such via email. Same day delivery requests are more difficult given the last minute nature of the order. We work to fulfill every request as promised, but on occasion run into fulfillment issues with this tight turnaround. This issue has been documented internally and shared with the team that manages our online ordering system so we can improve it for future orders.

Dumpster was scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday September 5th 2023. I'm asking to be fully refunded money's paid including the failed drop fee. This is an excuse used due to the inability or skill set to navigate the the vehicle and drop the dumpster. I have had other dumpsters dropped in my driveway near the garage when I first moved to my home without an issue the same size. The dumpster driver noted that there was an obstruction which is false the driveway is flat there was nothing in it as a requested if he's referring to the wires connected to the house there is a v shape gap that will allow vehicles to move back towards the garage. The previous day I had a pod dropped to the rear of the house near the garage without an issue.

The fee for the failed delivery has been refunded as one-time courtesy for the inconvenience of the matter. The size of dumpster containers and trucks vary from vendor to vendor. In this specific case, our driver had to make an on-site decision regarding the placement of the dumpster to ensure the safety of the property and our team. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience but hope the customer can understand the circumstances that lead to this initial fee.
