I was a victim of the old bait and switch. I was quoted $10,800 after the phone inventory. After they had packed me out with everything on the trucks it was $23,000. Key to that is everything rapped and packed on the trucks. The inventory specialist was able to remove several line items and got it down to $18,000. My closing date on my house was in two days. An Joseph was aware of the dead line on the closing. The penalty for not being out of the house on time was thousands. And they damaged $30,000 of our possessions. And stole another $2,500. Then when they made the delivery it was 8:00pm during a torrential downpour in Biloxi, Mississippi. Eight labors unloaded the semi truck and no one from the moving company was there for any type of inventory. I filed a claim for damages and loss. My claim was denied do to lack of inventory during the off load. To have opened every box and untapped all the furniture during the off load would have been impossible for me alone. And not knowing it had to be done at that time. Then was told to take us to court. Now California Exodus is Golden Gate moving. The same staff in the office answering phones and give that same $10,800. And I will supply the BBB with copies of all signed contracts between Clai Exodus an me. Don’t no what good it would do but it is the only proof that it happened.Initial Complaint

Moving from California to Texas. Before the pick up date they quoted me $2000 after they loaded up everything they charged me $5700. The truck was all loaded up and they pretty much told me pay up or we'll just hold on to your stuff as collateral. I had to pay out of pocket at that time via check. It took them over 2 months to deliver my goods. On the day that we had the movers come to drop off. They left the fridge in front of the door because they were to lazy to move the fridge in. I had to move in the fridge with my wife on our own while trying to take care of 2 children. They tried to drop off ANOTHER CUSTOMERS BED (because we did not bring our previous bed due to it being old and will take up space we were going to buy a new bed once we moved). We said this isn't ours why are you dropping this off? They took it back but afterwards when we were unpacking we noticed boxes missing. Even if it was one or 2 that is bad but it was about half the boxes missing (I have a picture of the missing boxes). I want a refund or compensation for the goods that were in those missing boxes. I specifically wrote down what was in each box so that I knew what was missing. I tried contacting their customer service but only get horrible hold music and never spoke with anyone. Please let me know if there are any next steps that I may take.Initial Complaint

We worked with Cali Exodus to move my mom from California to Texas (late July 2022) and while the movers who did the packing and unpacking on either end (people Cali Exodus had hired locally) were good, there seemed to be confusion and hidden costs. We were not told that we would need to pay extra for our items to be transferred to a smaller truck here in Austin in order to be delivered to our condo. And then when the items arrived the first item they tried to unload wasn't ours and at the end of the unloading two large armchairs were missing (never to be found), the glass front of an armoire was broken, and several other items were damaged. We submitted the claim for the arm chairs and the broken armoire front and tracked the delivery of the claim via certified mail. That was back in March (2023) and we still have not gotten any response in spite of email follow-ups. Thank you for any support you can provide. We feel like our requests for updates and resolution are simply going into a void.Initial Complaint

When I was moving in February 2022 we chose them because they gave us a good quote. When they arrived suddenly the cost was DOUBLE what they quoted us. Should have just canceled them right then, but I really needed to get moved across the country (CA to FL). I told them on the phone that my bigger items I would want them to pack to protect. When the movers arrived they acted very affronted that they had to pack anything. We were also looking for a company that wouldn't move our stuff from truck to warehouse to truck to warehouse to truck. They GUARANTEED us that they didn't do that. And then they arrived with a small box truck and told us they would be bringing our stuff to a warehouse. Somewhere along the way a 6' ladder was lost (AKA STOLEN), and a lot of my furniture and collectibles were badly damaged. My dining room chairs were on caster wheels - all crushed upon delivery. One of the chairs now has a large hole in the upholstery. My wooden bookshelves & dressers all have dents & large scratches, and one had a chunk of wood fall off! Many of my collectibles are damaged so badly they are no longer collectibles. So I went through their claim process. Submitted my claim on December 8, 2022 (it took me a while to find a home to buy to get my furniture out of storage). I inquired about the claim on Feb. 12th as I had heard nothing except the claim was received. Was told by ***** **** that the claim was still being processed and could take 90-120 days. So I reached out again after the 120 day mark on 4-29-23. No response at all. Then again on 5-9-23. They still haven't responded.Initial Complaint

I filed a claim with California exodus in my claim was accepted. I signed the required paperwork and got notice from the company that they had received the paperwork on February 20, 2023. I have yet to receive payment. I have repeatedly try to contact the company and have received no response. It’s been over 100 days and they have failed to pay out the claim.Business Response

Hi, I am emailing concerning complaint number ********. I have tried to contact the company multiple times regarding their agreement to pay out the claim, but I have not yet heard from them and have not received any callback. Is it possible to re-open this claim? It seems the only way they have communicated with me is through the Better Business Bureau claim process.
Thanks,

May 2022 - August 2023 and beyond for claim issues. We originally were given a quote by the company to move in May 2022. We also noted that we would need to separate pick up and storage times. 1 in the beginning May and another in June. They said not a problem. They noted that they often do service for "Antiques Roadshow". Which was great because we have many antiques. From the 1800s to early 1900s. Of course once they come for the 2nd pick up. They tell us our moving cost will be almost double the original est. (10g - 20g) WOW!!! Okay we had more stuff than they thought but double? Gross mis calculation for them. We set up a delivery date for our items of July 12,2023 for our new house in Idaho, our closing date. The day came and passed. We had no bed, no silverware, or anything at our new house. So we had to go buy a bed roll and plastic ware to get us through what we thought would be a couple days. However, a couple days comes and passes. We are told that their guarantee, when we called again, was a two week promise of delivery. But they conveniently didn't have any records so they didn't know when they were supposed to drop the items off. So our guarantee date started over again. When they finally delivered our load over 2 weeks late, it was only half of our goods. And of course much was broken. Confused, the driver came back about a week later with our 2nd load that he thought was coming the same day. Again much of our items were broken. And now many items missing. We filed a claim and notarized it. With pictures and everything thing but we have been ghosted by the company and haven't heard from them since they said theyd only give us a measley 800 odd dollars for the items they destroyed or stole: ***** ****** clock 1920s victorola Wagnerware, ******** and smithey cast iron Custom hardwood dvd case Custom end tables 3in1 Oklahoma Joe smoker longhorn Camp Chef deluxe explorer 2 burner stove 40 vin78 records Among manny other missing or expensive broken items.Initial Complaint

I called the company and got a quote for moving my household furniture. I was told that the movers would move the things to my new residence and put the stuff away. None of the box’s were marked for what room they should go in. A lot of the box’s had stuff from 2 or 3 different rooms. They asked me to unlock my filing cabinet so they could pack the files. When it was delivered, my personal (and important papers were still in the file cabinet. My son had to take the file drawers out so we could get one of the drawers open and the files that had fallen and gotten stuck. They didn’t take a walk through when they were done. I asked if they could leave the beds till the next day (I was told they were allowing two days for packing). The boss said “No, we’re fast we’ll be done tonight”. They were not done that night. They left around 6:00 PM. Not only did I have to pay twice the amount I was quoted but two extra nights in a motel because they spent the whole next day packing. After we got to our destination we checked with them to see when they were going to be there. When the delivery truck came, there was the driver and he was waiting for 2 people to come from Texas who were late. The truck was a tractor trailer with no lift. The driver was passing our heavy furniture down the back of the truck to the two guys at the bottom. We were told we had 15 ton of stuff. I was told at the beginning that they would put my stuff away. They did not unwrap anything. Boxes were put anywhere and everywhere. Mostly in the garage and entry way. There was a lot of scratches and dents in wood tables. They were here from 12:30-4:30. Broken: My mom’s dishes-all of the dinner plates and some of the salad plates Computer screen used for the security pictures Plasma 55”TV-2 cracks Gouges in tables, furniture. Cracks in washer control panel 2 Metal Garbage cans, 1 broke and both were dented Many other small things were broken. Reference ********** ** *********** **********Initial Complaint

In Feb 2022, CaliExodus M&S moved me from ******* *** ** *** ******* ***** It was a terrible move—as so many have shared online. The "Binding Moving Estimate" was $4117.25. Upon arrival at my new home in St. George, the movers held my funiture hostage unless I agreed to a $6843.67 charge. Their reasoning was that I had more to move than estimated. This was not true, and I can prove it. I cannot reach anyone at CaliExodus, and they are not returning phone calls or emails. It appears online that they may be out of business. Can you confirm whether that is true? In the absence of a settlment from them, assuming the owners have any assets, I plan to sue them in Small Claims Court for $2900, which is the overcharge plus an amount for a stolen desk and stolen brand new ********* machine. Many thanks in advance, *** ********Business Response
