Absolutely horrible. Do not purchase their service. Had to file a claim and the original status was 20 business days. We're now exceeding 30 business days and counting. Call every week and all I get is "it's in review, we're really backed up" claim started in March it is now June.

Hello. Our records indicate that the Total Loss occurring on November 21, 2023, was not reported to us until on or about February 23, 2024. Between February 25, 2024, and April 17, 2024, documents were submitted to us in a piecemeal fashion. Submitting the required documents piecemeal can create a delay in the processing time versus submitting all the required documents in a complete and single submission fashion. Once all documents were received, we placed the benefit request under review to be processed in the order complete documents were received. As of June 13, 2024, we authorized a waiver benefit. Thank you.

APPI has made a stressful situation even worse. I totaled my jeep in March and had all the documents turned in by 4/22. When I called to check on the status on 5/9, I was told it would be at least another 5 weeks. I have already made 2 payments while paying for a rental car. I cannot keep this up for much longer as I need a car to drive to work. The car accident was stressful and traumatic enough and I’m wanting to move on from it but cannot because of this issue. The dealership I purchased my jeep through had nothing but good things to say about this company and reassured me that I would be taken care of which is why I paid 1000$ for the waiver instead of finding my own coverage.

Hello. Our records indicate that all necessary documents for your waiver benefit request were received by late April. At that time, we placed the benefit request under review to be processed in the order in which complete requests were received. As of June 7, 2024, we have authorized a waiver benefit; we will send an explanation of the benefit to you with additional details. We will advise your finance company to waive the authorized amount. Please allow time for the finance company to process and apply the benefit to your account. Any balance remaining is your responsibility, pursuant to the finance agreement. Thank you.

After buying gap insurance when I purchased a new vehicle, I thought I would be covered in case of an accident when an actuality API only gave me $5000 worth of coverage. Which left me $8600 owing. How can they get away with not following their contract doesn’t seem legal

Hello. Your GAP Addendum is not an insurance policy; it is an addendum that attaches to and forms a part of your retail installment contract between you and your selling dealer/finance company, we act only as the administrator on their behalf. Your GAP Addendum agrees to waive the Outstanding Balance of your Vehicle, less the Actual Cash Value, as defined by the Addendum, subject to any terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions. Also, the GAP Addendum only covers up to 150% of the vehicle's retail value on the date of purchase; this is explicitly stated in your GAP Addendum and acknowledged by your signature. In this case, the Vehicle was financed above the 150% maximum coverage. Therefore, when reviewing the waiver benefit, the Outstanding Balance excluded any account balance resulting from the portion of the retail installment contract that was over the 150% maximum limit. The total waiver benefit was calculated according to the Addendum's terms, and any remaining account balance is your responsibility according to the terms of the finance agreement. Thank you.

Hello. We apologize for any perceived poor customer service. We have reviewed the recorded interactions with you and affirm that the disconnections were not intentional. There was potentially an issue with the call connection, but our customer service representative did not disconnect the phone calls. In this case, we understand that a benefit decision has been made, and an explanation of our decision has been sent to you. Thank you.

APPI is horrible they had me summit documents 5 to 6 times the same documents they claim they didn’t receive it. And now they tell me I have 400 hundred people in front of me. My car lost was 11/1/2023. Why do the car dealers use this company I’m sure they know about their bad record. When I read the reviews they are all bad reviews.

Hello. Per the terms of your GAP Addendum, complete and legible copies of all required documents must be received before we are able to review your waiver benefit request. Once complete documentation is received, we work to process benefit requests in the order of receipt. In this case, we have reviewed your waiver benefit request and authorized a waiver benefit. We will advise your Finance Company to waive the authorized amount, and an Explanation of Benefit will be sent to you. Any balance remaining after the waiver is applied is your responsibility per the terms of the finance agreement. Thank you.

This company lacks any actionable communication and plays word games to help insure customers cannot provide the 'correct' documents before their deadline. Then they mandate documents that their own customer portal identifies as 'optional'. This company is a scam and they don't pay out legitimate claims.

I am shocked at how much of a fraudulent this company this is for the service that is provided. I have been dealing with this GAP claim since Nov of last year. I have submitted the 1 report they did not have 7 times and got another emailing requested it. I have also sent the report via email so I have all the proof that is needed when I file suit against them for NOT providing what I PAID for. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!! It is a total RIP off and how they handle business should be illegal. When someone suffers a loss of their primary vehicle and their private insure paid the claim in such a timely matter, you should not have to continue to deal with a GAP policy for months after the fact. On top of all the nonsense you get to talk to the MOST RUDEST customer service ever! EVERYONE HEED the warning, take you business elsewhere

Hello. Our records indicate that the Total Loss occurring November 3, 2023, was not reported to us until December 13, 2023. However, we can confirm that all documents were received as of December 20, 2023, and your benefit request was reviewed and authorized on January 12, 2024. Please allow time for the Finance Company to receive a check by US Mail and apply the waiver to your account. An explanation of benefit will be sent to the contact information on file. Thank you.

My Buick Regal 2017 was totaled by a deer on the morning of June 1, 2023. Considering my gap insurance for this service was already paid up front, this company has left me on the hook without so much as a notification of final judgment or confirmation of any details up to the present. So essentially after having sent in two forms of documentation using archaic methods (like FAX) because the web page portal is so ridiculously inefficient and not regularly updated & maintained, my credit is taking severe hits for delinquency over something that at this point should have just been resolved. What an atrocious company.

APPI is the worst company I’ve encountered. APPI’s goal is attrition. Its onerous document requirements dissuade customers from even filing claims. If you prevail and submit the voluminous documentation through APPI's online portal, you'll be told it is your responsibility to confirm APPI received everything. On multiple occasions, I’ve had to resubmit documents that I previously uploaded. Moreover, the online claims log misrepresents most of the dates on which I uploaded documents. In some cases, the document appears to have been submitted weeks later than the date it was uploaded. My accident was in July 2023. I uploaded all of the required documentation soon after the accident. I was only missing “proof of payment” from my auto insurer. APPI demands a copy of a “check” – even payments are electronic. Moreover, because this is a GAP claim, your insurer will probably pay your lender directly, so you wouldn’t have a check! Fortunately, my lender provided proof of payment directly to APPI. I’m now in my fourth month making payments on the car that was totaled. AAPI refuses to provide a decision date, saying only that it will be “months” longer (and telling me to call back every two weeks). In the meantime, APPI retains the insurance proceeds, while I lose the use and time value of my funds! APPI appears to be flagrantly violating a litany of laws and regulations, including engaging in UDAAPs. I doubt it will continue to operate much longer. Current customers will probably lose any coverage or benefits, even though they’ve already paid their premiums. Unfortunately, most purchasers of GAP insurance are presented with only one option at the time of purchase and finance. It’s not realistic to conduct any due diligence. That’s the only way a predatory company like APPI can survive, taking customers money, counting on ridiculous documentation requirements and months of delayed claims processing to force attrition.

Hello. In general, a GAP Addendum is an agreement between the Dealer/Finance Company and the Customer, where in the event of a Total Loss, the Dealer/Finance Agreement agrees to waive the difference between the Outstanding Balance and the Actual Cash Value, subject to the Addendum’s terms.  Per the Addendum’s terms, a copy of the insurance carrier’s settlement payment is a required document per the terms of the GAP Addendum. In this case, we did receive the necessary proof, and a benefit was authorized. A check was sent to your Finance Company on or about November 1, 2023.  Unfortunately, we are unaware of the Finance Company’s process for applying the check, and we suggest that you follow up with them for further updates.  We apologize for any perceived delay and thank you for your anticipated understanding.

This company's customer service is a joke! I have been hung up on and lied to. My claim took over 4 months for them to review all the documents they request. Now, I am requesting ONE document from APPI, and so has another insurance companies agent, on my behalf, to no avail. I have not gotten the breakdown of their payment to my lien holder. Something as simple as that, yet very necessary since they didn't cover all that they should have. Gap is to cover the balance of the remaining loan after a total loss like mine. The other insurance company is only asking for ONE document, and can't get it. APPI asked for about 10 different documents, and got them all within a couple of days. I have requested this document by email request, and a verbal request to one of their agents who said I would receive the document by email. I'm not sure why this is so hard?

Hello. We created a letter explaining your benefits on September 20, 2023, but it was inadvertently not sent. The error was caught due to this inquiry, and the letter was sent on September 26, 2023, to the email address on file. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Please be advised that your GAP Addendum covered the GAP Amount as defined by the Addendum, subject to its terms and conditions. Any balance remaining after the waiver has been applied remains your responsibility pursuant to the Finance Agreement’s terms. Thank you.
