    We were charged $173.98 for a 10 minute sick visit for my one year old's ear infection. I have wonderful insurance and this has never been an issue before. They have started charging for prescriptions I was told by the billing manager whenI called. I am outraged and none of this was made transparent. Beware with this healthcare company, they are great physicians but have turned into conmen that are not reasonable or transparent with their pricing. We will be finding a new physician for our kids if this is not resolved and I plan to continue to spread the word!

    Office contacted ******** ****** at number provided by BBB to address concerns. *** ****** had concerns about billing practices at ESD Pediatric Group. Her billing file was reviewed prior to contacting her. Upon review of her file, it was clear that *** ****** was billed correctly for the service rendered to her child based on documentation in the chart and actual visit as confirmed by *** ******. 
    Initially, there was a misunderstanding of how medical office billing occurs and her understanding of her specific plan (high deductible). ESD Pediatric Group is part of a contracting group which includes ********** ********** and many private practices in the Greater Cincinnati area. Billable charges are different for different insurance companies and plans. Most commercially provided insurance today is in the form of high deductible plans. This was, as expected, the case here. With high deductible plans, patient responsibility is to pay all acute charges until deductible is met. 

    The criteria for level of service were met to justify standard charge. This charge was run through insurance and adjudicated per contract. As family had not met their deductible for the year, the contracted cost of the visit was correctly moved to "patient responsibility" then billed to the patient. 

    Charge criteria and how high deductible plans work was reviewed on the phone with *** ******. She expressed appreciation for the office reaching out and confirmed that she understood how the charge for her child's service was determined and how it became her responsibility. 

    This was an amicable conversation.
