      We rented a vehicle for five days to take a quick holiday around the southwest. Nightmarish line at the airport kiosk aside, it has been utter chaos. The first car we were assigned we never received because "A light turned on after they washed it." The second car we received was a 2025 Jeep Compass. It had 6000 miles on it when we received it. On the morning of the third day of our trip, the engine light came on and we received a notification to service the transmission. Avis customer service arranged for a replacement car but we had to try and drive almost 4 hours out of our way to get it, as that was the closest location. We made it, thankfully, but the first replacement car they gave us couldn't connect to any navigation due to not having an SD card and was not well cleaned as we found loose pills in the footwell of the back seat. The SECOND replacement car they gave us didn't make it 24 hours before it had an engine malfunction to the point of being undriveable. We now have to get yet another replacement car.These cars came from two different airports in two different states. Avis is clearly not doing maintenance on their vehicles. I am fully expecting the next vehicle they give us as a replacement to malfunction as well.I will not rent from Avis again.

      I rented a car from the *********** for a weekend fishing trip in rural ***** over 2 hours away. It got a flat tire in the fishing area where cell service is spotty and **** rides are non- existent. The tire was changed through emergency roadside service, but when I asked about how to get back to the airport on the spare, my options were to have the tire fixed locally, on my dime even though I added the insurance, or get a tow and an **** (not available) to the nearest Avis location over 2 hours away driving 45 mph. So I didn't forfeit my fishing trip, I chose to drive slowly to the closest Avis causing me to move my flight and add another day to my trip because of the added drive time. But that location did not have any vehicles to swap out so I had to drive all the way back to DFW at 45mph which is not recommended for safety reasons. When I got to the counter to explain the poor service and options, they told me that since I paid upfront online, there was nothing they could do for me and it would be sent for review and I'd hear back in a week. I requested they remove one day of the rental and my insurance but that was denied and instead sent a bill for roadside service. **************** said there was no manager to escalate to and I have no recourse to discuss this with anyone else. At every turn this service was awful, and it's implied during the rental that things are covered that actually are not. This company is the worst and I do not recommend renting from them. If you do read every word of the fine print, use your own insurance and hopefully do not get a flat tire.

      Based upon the information you provided and the findings of our internal investigation, we show that customer service refunded $100 **** on file on 4/15/25. Please allow up to 10 business days for this refund to reflect. 

      Unfortunately we do not show that you had insurance through Avis on your rental nor did you have Roadside SafetyNet so we cannot remove the charge for roadside coming out. As you used your personal insurance for this rental, you can file a claim with them for reimbursement.

      If I could have, I would rate no stars. I would recommend never renting from Avis. I was a loyal customer for over 20 years for both business and personal. I rented last weekend in ************ and had the worst rental experience ever. We waited 30 minutes to get picked up by the shuttle and watched four Enterprise Shuttles go by as we waited. We got to the rental center and I did not have an assigned car on the Board at preferred so again I had to wait. Asked about upgrading the car and the attendant did not even answer me. Just said my space number. I had to ask about the rental agreement and she rudely said it would be emailed to me. The car we were given smelled like smoke. I did not have time to go back and make a complaint so we kept it. When we returned the car, there was no one to check the car in. We had to leave the keys in the car. When I finally got my receipt, I was charged for fuel. The gauge was on F. They stated it went out with 15 gallons and i returned it with 13. It was not a digital fuel gauge so not sure how i was supposed to know that. I called customer service and they said since it was marked that way, it was a valid charge and there is nothing they can do. **************** would not even address any of the other complaints I had with the rental. You would think they would want to keep a loyal customer happy. I guess not. ********************** has lost my business permanently. What was once a great rental car company is now a very poorly run company with no customer service.

      I had an issue with Budget/Avis on January 21, 2025. I booked two car rentals and in the process, Budget sent me one confirmation number on one for $539.58 but did not send me a confirmation on the second car for $ ******. When I called them back they told me they dont have that car in their system although they charged my credit card. They told me I would have to call my credit card. I did call my Fidelity card and was told I had to let the charge go through and challenge it from there. The other issues I have found out through my credit card is that Budget has put my name in wrong in the system twice ( *** Brain, and *** *****. This may be the reason for all the issues. The problem is that I am still having to pay the $****** to my credit card. The issue is I never received a service, ( car ) for this money!!! I had to reserve another car due to this huge mistake by Budget. Budget has definitely dropped he ball on this and I want my money back as I do not have $****** to pay for something I never received. Budget should have given my credit back immediately and now having issues getting it taken off my charge from fidelity. Budget has said I did not show up for this car but this car never existed. Maybe the problem was the *** I talked to on the phone did not put my info in correctly several times. another thing, my email was put in correctly on one car but not the other. Their mistake as well. I just want my money back from something I never got.

      Avis is a scammer. I booked a prepaid rental. When i went there, the car was not available so they gave me a different car with lower contract rates, but finally charge me for both lower contract rate and prepaid rental as well. no charges were returned after multiple attempts to this issues fixed.

      I would give 0 stars if possible. I rented a vehicle 3/10/2025 and returned it 3/15/2025. I only used it to go from the airport to the hotel and back. I was notified on 3/19/2025 that I was going to be charged a $450 Hazard Cleaning Fee. I requested the reason for this as I barely used the vehicle and most definitely did not have anything hazardous in it. The documentation they provided was random pictures of the outside of the car, the car stickers, mileage, and a picture of a window that had "3/14 Smell like Pee Pee" written on it. There was no urine or nasty garbage in that vehicle that could have caused it and I barely used it. Also, I returned it 3/15, not 3/14. I had to follow up several times to get a response and the most they said they could do was charge me half of the amount. I have a dispute open with my credit card company and let Avis know I will not be paying a cent as I barely used the vehicle and charging me for some random smell that definitely was not from me is insane. Also, someone writing "smell like pee pee" on a window is not evidence of anything and sounds childish. Absolutely disappointed by this company and will never use them again. It looks like they also do this to a lot of people, but more so for cigarette smells.

      I have never rented through Avis before and I never will again. I compared prices and noticed that I could get a larger SUV with a "pay now" discount for the same price as a sedan at Enterprise so I decided to go with Avis.When I arrived to pick up the vehicle, they gave me the paperwork and said "initial here, here, here, and here". They did not once explain or read any policies to me, review the vehicle or do any kind of walk through. While walking out, I mentioned bringing it back early if necessary and the staff explained that if I did prepay, I would not receive a refund for the days not used, and that they could not doing anything about it because they were a satellite office and I would have to "take it up with Avis", which was news to me. I went outside and did a walk through by myself and took pictures of the condition of the vehicle prior to leaving. I do not need the vehicle for as long as I reserved it for. I changed my reservation to end earlier than I had originally booked for. I noticed a negative number and assumed since they let me change the date, that I would be getting a refund. I called to see how that process works and was told that per the policy, I would not be getting a refund.Apparently the policy says that you will not get a return if you return it early, which is very much in the "fine print" and not explicit to customers. I assumed the discount was for paying prior to picking up the vehicle.I explained multiple times my problem was not with the policy, but the manipulation used by not making it explicit what the policy is at the time of booking and the failure of the staff to review these policies. I spoke to a standard customer service representative and requested escalation to a supervisor. The supervisor was very rude and combative. I'm sure she would say the same about me however, this situation does not sit right with me as they are manipulating and taking advantage of their customers.

      My husband booked our rental car to be picked up when our flight landed in ** and already PAID for it. We arrived and were told he had not used an acceptable form of payment. The payment was his CREDIT CARD through Apple Pay, which was offered as an option through their website. He showed receipts, confirmation emails, THEY WOULD NOT GIVE US THE CAR WE HAD PAID FOR. NEVER use Avis. We certainly never will.

      I waited 45 minutes to get my rental and was overcharged for the base rental price as well as being overcharged for add ons that I didnt want to purchase. When I realized that I was being overcharged for the entire rental I called customer service but was told that I couldnt dispute any charges until I returned the vehicle. I was charged 300+ dollars over the price of the base rental that I prepaid in advance and I was charged 600+ for add ons that I didnt agree to. So basically I was charged over 1000 dollars for services and upgrades that I didnt want or need. They tried to take advantage of me but I caught them. Now Avis according to them will only give me 50% of the disputed price instead of a full refund. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE CROOKS AND WILL TRY TO SNEAK EXTRA BS CHARGES INTO YOUR BILL WITHOUT YOU NOTICING.

      I rented a car on the fly because my flight from **************** to ********** was cancelled. They told me it would be around $185 to drive it the three hours to ***********. With hidden fees it ended up costing close to $350+. 2 weeks later I get a letter in the mail that says I damaged the windshield and they're charging my card another $600 for damages. I called customer service and explained that the crack in the windshield was there when I picked up the car but I was in too much of a hurry to run back inside and say "hey you know there's a crack in this windshield right?" I figured they knew what they were doing... but no, they blamed it on me and are charging me no matter what. I will never ever rent another car from these scammers. I should have taken a picture and run back inside and told them about it so I guess that's my one thousand dollar fault for not saying anything. ****** learned. Lookout people, AVIS will ring you dry for every car rental. They love this scam and the customer service people hung up on me more than once after taking my number and then saying "we can't make outbound calls"... then why did you take my phone number. WORST CAR RENTAL COMPANY ON THE PLANET
