On July 13, 2022, as part of an industry-wide review of CBD businesses in our service area, Better Business Bureau contacted The Lighthearted Farmer LLC concerning the following advertising claims found on their website, https://thelightheartedfarmer.com/:

- "Research has shown that providing CBD to your pet at ALL stages of life impacts their overall well-being. As we know, each animal is unique and will react to their environments differently. Here are some of the ways we have seen CBD benefit animals:

•Pain Relief. Aids with stiffness in joints, inflammation, injuries, disease, etc. We have seen animals, especially older, become more active, start playing again, jump on the bed, etc.

•Anxiety/Nervousness. Animals experience this at any age due to separation, traveling, noises, trauma, etc. Can help ease and calm them.

•Sluggishness/Hyperactivity. This is caused sometimes by age, breed, etc. Since CBD helps regulate the body, it can help an animal become more active (if sluggish) or calm them (if hyperactive).

•Homeostasis. Overall, CBD helps bring bodies into balance."

- "Each balm is holistically designed to bring healing to both the region to which it is applied and the entire body."

- "The combination of cannabinoids, herbs, and mushrooms gets your blood moving and awakens your masculine aspects."

- "This holistically formulated balm is designed to ease symptoms at the site and support the entire body. It is intended to soothe tension, pain, and inflammation. Best for recovery (inflammation, pain, soreness, congestion, headaches, etc)."

- "This holistically formulated balm is designed to ease symptoms at the site and support the entire body. It is intended to heal, nourish, and increase vitality. Best for skin healing (scrapes, rashes, bruises, scars, tattoos, etc.)."

- "This blend is designed to assist your body and mind in transitioning from day to night. It is nourishing, relaxing and cozy. The combination of cannabinoids, herbs, and mushrooms calms the mind and draws out your feminine aspects."

- "Organic hemp seed oil offers the consumer a high dose of essential fatty acids and a perfect 3 to 1 ratio of Omega 6s to Omega 3s. There is also a small amount of protein from the hemp seeds that contain all of the essential amino acids of human bodily function."

- "CBD (cannabidiol) is a cannabinoid commonly found in the cannabis (hemp) plant. Our CBD oils are full spectrum, whole plant extracts which harness the synergistic benefits of the entourage effect. Studies suggest that full spectrum extracts are significantly more effective than isolate or distillate."

BBB requested that The Lighthearted Farmer LLC review its advertising and provide substantiation based on reliable, recent, competent testing for each of the health claims made and to discontinue any advertising that is in violation of FDA and FTC mandates for this industry.

Despite written requests, as of January 6, 2023, The Lighthearted Farmer LLC has not responded to BBB’s request for revisions and clarification in its advertising.  

Advertisements should be truthful, sincere offers to sell. Advertisers have a responsibility to have substantiation for all claims made and should be able to provide that substantiation upon request. All advertising that may mislead or deceive consumers should be avoided.

Claims relating to performance and results should be backed up by reliable evidence.
