I had a failing chimney that needed to be replaced. I called three contractors to provide bids. One provided a ridiculous bid, one I had met earlier gave me a decent verbal bid, but then I could never get a follow up, and The Flues Brotherz provided a reasonable bid and told me it was a quick two day job. I selected their bid without following up on their CCB license -******-, big mistake. Their license is no longer active because of unpaid claims and civil penalties. Anyway, they came out and quickly took down the chimney. This was *******************, except that they didn't check the flue and some chunks of the old chimney fell into the fireplace. I thought they would show up the next day to begin construction on the new chimney, but that didn't happen. I followed up with them and got the work scheduled with ******* for the next week. It seemed to go fine, albeit a little slow. He said he was working with a new apprentice and it was taking a little longer. I figured no problem, as long as work was getting done. After a few more days, I was wondering when the work would be completed. I was reassured that the work was almost done. Another person showed up, whom was supposed to roof in two old stacks that were no longer being used. Two more days go by with them feverishly working into the night. Sunday night ******* says he is almost done but needs to return to put on the cap and do some minor work in the fireplace. He asks if I can pay most, but not all, of the balance of the quote. I figure he still needs the rest of the money and he'll need to get his tarp and elastic cords holding it over the chimney while the mortar dries. That was the last I heard from them. The cap wasn't put on, the re-roofing is not competent, and there is a small but visible lean to the chimney. I will need a real roofer to fix the roof and I'm not sure what to do with the leaning chimney. I finally pulled the tarp off and installed the cap myself.
