I hired storeyline to write a resume for me, and they have consistently failed to deliver a usable product. One of their main selling points is high end writers, but basic typos and mis-spelling of my information (on several occasions) suggest otherwise. I have had to do a lot of my own legwork in proofing the resume and it's still only half way there in my opinion and largely word salad. One of the other selling points is getting you through ATS/HR systems, but when I tested it through a ATS system and it spits out really garbled information. Employer Names show up as E M P L O Y E R N A M E and worse some bullet points don't even render. I reached out to the owner on LinkedIn and was met with a very poor attitude at best. She told me to go back through the process with one of the higher up people at the company, I spoke with them and we made changes together where I was to re-upload my new drafts to be re-written with the notes. It's still bad and I've invested way too much of my own time at this price point. At this price I should have to do absolutely minimal work as needed and the work I need to do should not be spell checking. I also have not received the rest of my package because technically my resume is not complete and I don't care for it to be completed. I have now paid someone on a discount freelance site < $100 to do a MUCH better job. Just check google, reddit, bbb. Storeyline is outsourced word salad resumes that do NOT even meet basic standards, much less executive level standards.

We worked with this client very closely to meet his needs. We conducted a review call to discuss his edits and provided a new version of the resume on May 4, based on his feedback. Since then, we have not heard back or been provided any feedback. Our goal is to always, always make sure the client loves their documents, but this is a collaborative process. We've met our timelines, deliverables, and made all of his requested edits. We would have been more than happy to continue working with him had he responded back to the latest version of the resume.

I hired Storeyline to help rewrite my resume. The initial interview with Linda was a major red flag which I already called out to their team in an email. Linda did not ask anything about what I currently do day to day or how my industry operates. I understand they have a method to their interviewing, but it left me feeling very uneasy and did not allow me to have a dialogue about what I was looking to get out of this process. She was clearly going off preloaded questions that had nothing to do with my profession - it was not collaborative in the slightest. The resume was sent over about 2 weeks later and it was filled with made up stats and wrong data. I wrote them back saying how the resume was completely fabricated and they took nothing from the interview into consideration. It was as if they took snippets from other peoples resumes, from different industries, and put them into mine. I let them know I would need a lot of time to review the edits, but I made it clear that I was completely let down by their work. After a couple weeks I had some time to look at the draft and it’s simply unusable. Every section is a disaster and is filled with completely made up information. I emailed them once again and expressed my concern and they said they don’t offer refunds. This company is a scam. They clearly just take basic information and shove it into a generic format and use other people’s resume bullet points to fill in space.

In the intro call, I could immediately tell that the person conducting it was absolutely disinterested. It felt rushed and I didn't think that she got all of my nuanced experience. I was right, because when I received what they call a draft, which came late, it was really terrible. I'm an HR professional with many years of resume review experience, and what I saw was sloppy work. It was clear they didn't look at my homework or the two resumes I sent them as a reference, because it wasn't adjusted well in the actual draft. And the draft was extremely wordy, confusing, downright irrational. Nothing was communicated well. I should have known, because the clue was the templates they provide. I immediately realized that the editing process would mean I would have to do all the feedback work and basically write my own resume. At $750 it means I was paying someone and doing their work too. When I complained and asked to pay for the 20% of the work they completed, they rejected my claim stating that they do not offer any refunds at all. They kept pushing the draft overview call on me, but I knew that it would be more of the same confusing and unprofessional work that I received. I realized that it would just waste time. I kept asking for a refund and they refused, despite only a fraction of the work being done, for which I offered to pay and it's terrible work at that. Not only that, they claimed I was looking for a free resume. Then I offered to cc them or send a screen shot of every role I apply for so they can see that I'm not using their resume. Nothing. I believe this company feeds on people's desperation and sells a product that is not what they advertise.

I purchased the Professional Package from Storeyline Resumes on March 22nd. I spoke with Val on April 3rd to help pull stories out of me that weren't on the resume. I received the first draft of my resume April 24th, about a week late from their published timeframe of 10-14 days.  That first draft was awful. It was so awful that it was almost laughable except I had paid $689 for it. I'll admit, I was upset and didn't contact them for a  few days. When I did, I left a message and was contacted via text to complete the review of the first draft and they would work on it until I loved it. I told them I wanted to be done with them at that point and requested a refund which they said they don't do. They made me feel like I didn't understand that a first draft is not the finished product. I understand that. What I don't appreciate is that I paid a lot of money to receive something that is unusable. I gave them a solid resume. They were supposed to tweak it and make it better. They want me to rewrite it so they can tweak it and send it back to me. That's not how this should work. I could have purchased a resume template off Etsy for $10 to write it myself.   I questioned whether they used AI to write it, which they denied, because there are so many errors. But it sure reads like AI wrote this because they jumbled things together randomly, put things in odd places, added incorrect word choices, the numbers/metrics were not accurate in some cases, and they took the least important thing under one of my jobs and made it the first bullet point (there's a reason it was in the second paragraph for that job), it's incoherent in some places and takes other points out of context. There's no way a person reviewed it before it was added to their portal. And the Word doc doesn't line up my phone, email, and LinkedIn profile properly so the template is unusable. Don't waste your time and money here. You will be disappointed. This is a total scam.

Our goal with every single project is to make sure the client loves their documents. In this case, however, the client was unwilling to work with us. The draft is created with the intention of going through an edit process. Resume language is very specific, we have to write to computers (ATS) first, people second. Hiring managers and recruiters expect this type of language. We assured this client our resumes are NOT created by AI. This resume was created by a long-time executive writer here who has successfully helped hundreds of clients. The draft was reviewed for all grammar, spelling, proofing, etc and has no errors. We reached out to this client on three separate occasions to schedule a review call so we could discuss his concerns. He never responded. This is a collaborative process and unfortunately the client decided not to respond to us at all. Also, WORD files cannot be viewed in preview mode, Google docs, or on Mac Pages. Viewing on a mobile devices distorts the formatting. You have to download the file and open in a Word document, which we would have happily told the client had he asked us directly.

If you compare what was on my existing resume to what Storeyline sent over you can see what they sent me was far inferior to what I had originally. Their numbers are inaccurate and things aren’t coherent. The way they structured the resume doesn’t make sense. Technically, words are spelled correctly, but the words have to be in a certain order to make a sentence that people can understand. What they sent is worse than what I gave them. I shouldn’t have to re-write my resume for them. That’s what I paid for. That’s why I maintain that no one looked at this before uploading it to the portal. They should be embarrassed with what they presented to me.

I work in marketing. I understand what first drafts are and I also know how to download a Word doc. The info on the right was skewed even in the downloaded Word doc. These people really are condescending. See the example attached. And this example is only for my most recent job. There are other errors for jobs before that. That’s why I wanted my money back. I was expecting to tweak a resume to get it to where I’m happy with. I didn’t expect to rewrite the entire thing for them.

As we previously stated, per our refund policy which is publicly available on our website, we don't offer refunds once the resume draft has been created. We go through an extremely detailed and time-intensive process to create the draft. We have hours and hours of time invested, from the discovery call, resume interview, to the drafting of the resume. We ask our clients to collaborate with us to make edits in order to update and finalize a resume that they love. Unfortunately, this client would not participate in that process and ignored us when we reached out multiple times to get a review call scheduled to discuss his concerns.

I spent 45 minutes with an interviewer but, again, I doubt they took much time after that to "write" my resume. No one would spend so much time to make something incoherent and remove the meaning and context of my accomplishments. They want to paint me as unwilling to work with them but they presented something so awful that it would take more time to explain all of the problems. Again, I hired them to save time by having them write my resume, with edits back and forth to complete the project. I was ready for that process. I was not ready to take the time to rewrite my resume for them. This back and forth is them trying to save face. I get it. They got their money and aren't willing to admit how terrible their service is.

This business has been red flag after red flag since my first call. They offer a resume writing service along with helping you with your LinkedIn profile. There are various packages, which I thought would be based on industry and tenure. I was expecting to pay the $589 seeing as I am a sells rep with about 6 years of experience. The first phone call she wouldn’t tell me the packages until I told her what I have been making with my current company (first red flag) as soon as I did this she only spoke about the executive package (789$) and presented it as though it would be different and better than the others (it’s not). This was March 24th. April 2nd I spoke to Kay- she asked me questions that all could be answered by looking at my current resume- waste of time but whatever. She told me my resume would be finished in 10 days. It took 14. (Second red flag). At this point I was already frustrated at the length of time it took and just needed my resume. I make some edits on the April 17th and send back immediately and was told I would have the next draft back in 2 days. Wrong again- 4 days later they tell me they see none of my edits(3rd red flag) April 24th, I get my “final” draft. They closed everything as finished without getting my final stamp of approval. (4th and 5th red flag) There are still issues and in fact several missing pieces. April 26th I have a phone call with Lori and we agree upon a partial refund of 200$. I paid through PayPal and they get refunds posted pretty immediately. I still do not have my refund. The owner Robynn is refusing to refund me and told me through LinkedIn that she suspects something else is going on- insinuating I am being immoral. I was happy with the partial refund and told Lori that I wasn’t trying to get products for free but that there was not an 800$ value on what I received and that they were deceitful about the product and time frame. They take no responsibility.

We make every possible attempt to please all of our clients. ******* was told in writing in her confirmation email that the timeframe is 10-14 business days. This information is also publicly available on our website. So in no way, shape, or form were we being "deceitful" about the timeline. In fact, we make the timeline extremely clear on all platforms so clients are aware. ******* provided one minor round of edits and gave her approval of the resume: "Made a couple of small tweaks that were just errors! Also added the date of the FPC! Everything else looks amazing!" With her enthusiastic feedback, we completed her edits and provided the final resume package. Once it was completed, ******* "suddenly" started having issues and demanding a refund, even though she approved and received all of the documents. She then filed a chargeback for the full amount of the package. As per our public refund policy, we do not offer refunds on work already created and provided. I am attaching the refund policy here. We have responded to her chargeback dispute per the refund policy. But filing a chargeback for the full amount once services have been rendered and documents delivered is extremely unfair to a small business that has provided all of the agreed upon items per our service agreement. She is now aiming to get her package free, while our team has worked extremely hard on her documents and received her approval.

Again, I attached the two emails confirming a promised refund of $200. Are you going back on your word and our agreement? I filed a case through PayPal for the missing refund when it wasn’t received. I attached those screen shots as well- you can see MY case was for $200. I cannot control what PayPal does on the back end as I do not work for them.

Lori and Robynn both acknowledged the promised refund- again there is proof. So I do not understand why you are fighting this and not keeping your word. It does not make sense and is so unfair. It is adding stress to my life that I do not deserve.  Why can’t you keep our agreement? That’s all I am asking for- the partial refund of $200 and you are refusing and ignoring YOUR promise.

On 11/23/22 I hired Storeyline Resumes to write an Executive Level resume, plus a 1-hour career coaching session. I paid $1039 - $789 for resume services and $250 for a 1-hour coaching session. They failed to deliver on their business promise. My experience shares many similarities to those complaints filed with BBB seen below. My biggest need was to address my struggle with positioning & strategy of 8-year tenure at a company which went through 3 acquisitions. I was very clear about this when speaking with Leyla during first call. She assured me this would be discussed during my interview and it never was. Mara called me several mins late for the coaching session & ended early. Spoke for 46 mins. She mostly sent links to job postings vs helping me get clarity on career direction. My interview with Linda was rigid. I understand there’s a structure to how those calls are conducted, but there was no room for dialogue or an exchange. I mentioned maybe I should explain my industry. She cut me off & said no. However, Storeyline’s interview prep guidelines say to “Be prepared to explain what you do for a living as if the interviewer is someone you just met…, and they have zero clue about your industry or area of expertise. This is a collaborative partnership.” The resume templates to choose from were outdated & cluttered. First draft had many typos, grammatical errors & was 3 pages long! They placed work history of one company under another. They broke up my 8-year tenure at 1 company into 3 different jobs & companies. They also added in job responsibilities and skills I do not have. They took 2 completely separate roles & combined into 1! I responded with notes & questions which went unanswered. I had to rewrite resume myself which can be seen in final draft. I spoke with Lori on 4/13/22 to discuss my experience & request for a partial refund. She promised to call back next day after speaking with Robyn. I never heard from her again even after I called her back again.

During the initial call to get my $, they were already trying to upsell me on interview prep packages. That should have been my first clue, but I pushed through and paid them money I don’t have, trying to see it as an investment. The 45 min interview felt extremely rushed, and it seemed like all they wanted were quantitative data points from my job history rather than an understanding what what my career path and experience was. They also had not yet looked at any of the info from my homework, despite the initial interviewer telling me it was CRUCIAL to have that done before the 45-minute call. Then came the 1st draft. It was wordy, convoluted, and illogical, despite saying I’m able to “create a concise, well-written narrative and communicate clearly.” There were misspellings and grammatical errors throughout. It didn’t highlight points that would have been relevant to jobs I’m applying for, which are COPYWRITING JOBS. So important. After a few attempts with the editing process, I gave up and decided I could edit better on my own. After the final resume came a cover letter written for someone else. They eventually sent me the correct one, but I was so glad that happened. It showed me that the cover letters are not only NOT tailored to me or one of the potential jobs I’d shared with in my homework, but they’re also a horrible template. Also, the LinkedIn content was completely non-sensical. When I told them this they sent me a link to set up a phone meeting, but when the person called she didn't even remember what was going on. She asked if I wanted another cover letter and I said I didn't want anything else from them except my money back, which never happened.

Storeyline claims to offer a senior executive resume service that will "leverage your extensive experience and accomplishments to represent your unique talent brand... This resume will showcase those qualities and provide a stellar first impression." I paid for 2 senior executive resumes, cover letters, and a Linkedin profile update. The service provided has been subpar and not professional. After speaking with their initial employee about my experience and sending in all requested information (current resume and examples of desired jobs), they sent me a first draft of my resume in the template I chose. The resume had grammatical errors and typos!!! It was primarily just re-formatting my existing resume into their template (not what I was promised). What they did change looked copy and pasted (not personalized and not professional). The resume showed a lack of detail and a lack of understanding of what ANY resume should look like (not to mention a senior executive). I sent back notes and requested they adjust to better fit me personally as well as fix the errors and make it more professional. The 2nd resume they sent me barely had any changes and still had errors/typos. At that point, I contacted the company to request cancelling the service. After a week, I was finally able to talk to someone who offered a partial refund, but refused to refund the resume work "they had started." I told them that they hadn't actually done any work to improve my resume and I wanted my money back. At this point, they informed me that it was the company's policy not to refund any work that they had already done (this was not shared in advance). Storeyline appears to be a scam, claiming to have professional resume writers and then withholding the money. I struggle to see how any professional resume writer would publish these resumes proudly. They are definitely not executive quality and Storeyline has failed to deliver the service they promised.

On May 25, 2022, I purchased an executive resume package that included a resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile. I was assured the initial process to gather information would take 30 days but that I would have final documents within three days of submitting my draft. The total paid was $839.00. I received a draft resume on 7/7/22 and immediately submitted my edits on 7/9/22. The resume contained multiple grammatical errors including incorrectly spelled words and was written in broken English. On 7/13/22 I received a third request to complete a survey but still hadn't received any documents other than the draft that needed significant edits. I completed the survey giving two stars and highlighting the issues, as well as the missed three-day, promised deadline. I did receive the rest of the promised documents within 24 hours of submitting the review but they contained extensive proofreading, grammatical errors, and more broken English and were not to the standard of an Executive Level Resume. I met with Heather L*** Director of Operations, on 7/25/22 to attempt to remedy this issue. After speaking with Heather, the draft I received back was worse than the original and the information I'd asked to be corrected was simply deleted. I emailed on 7/28/22 highlighting these issues and that email was not responded to. I emailed again on 8/4/22 still attempting to resolve these issues and requesting a 50% refund of fees paid. I received an email from Heather on 8/9/22 stating they don't give refunds despite being more than twelve weeks since I originally purchased their services. I then called Storyline Resumes on 8/16/22 and requested a meeting with the business owner, Robynn S*****. That phone call went without a response. I made one final attempt to contact the business owner on 9/6/22 through LinkedIn and received a message on 9/12/22 that she was not able to meet and directed me back to the Director of Operations.

We always strive to make sure our clients love their final documents. This client did speak to our Customer Service Rep. and our Director of Operations to discuss her concerns. After conducting review calls and making all of her requested updates, we finalized her package. We never finalize without the client's approval of the draft. Sometimes the process does take longer as we go back and forth on edits. The goal is always to make sure the client is satisfied with the files while also abiding by best resume practices in order for the client's resume to pass ATS and appeal to hiring managers/recruiters. Resumes do have a very specific language as we have to appeal to both computers and to people. However, there were no grammatical or proofreading errors. The resume and corresponding documents were built by a long-time executive writer here. He has written thousands of resumes that have successfully helped other clients advance their careers. I'm sorry to hear this particular client was disappointed, but we've done everything possible - from rounds of edits to various phone calls - to make sure she was satisfied. Unfortunately, it appears we were not able to please her. But the resume we delivered addressed all of her edits and was extremely well-written and designed to help her achieve her next career goal.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.  I have attached examples of some of the errors.  Please do not publish this content on your website as it's my personal biography but I wanted you to see a small sample of the issues.

The response from S*****line Resumes is disappointing, although not surprising, as they tend to blame the consumer in their other BBB complaint responses and continue to display a lack of integrity.  The business states they were no spelling or grammatical errors.  I have attached proof this is not accurate and have their Director of Operations quoted as stating, "Your writer never misses a deadline.  He definitely rushed and did not proofread, I see the errors you're referring to."  I have other executive professionals who can attest to the poor quality of work that was delivered to me and the violation of their agreement published on the website.

S*****line Resumes also stated that drafts take time as we go back and forth to make edits.  My time was spent waiting to receive initial documents long before we ever began the editing process.  I have explained that timeline below.

Their website clearly states the following expectations for working with S*****line Resumes.  S*****line Resumes makes the following agreements when you sign up for their service:
“You’ll receive your proof within 10 to 12 business days after your homework has been completed. Once you’re fully satisfied with your new resume, we’ll send out the finalized documents within 2-3 business days. “  S*****lineResumes.com
I submitted my homework on 6/9/22.  By their agreement, I should have received a proof by 6/23/22 yet I didn’t receive my document until 7/9/22.  A full 30 days from when I submitted homework.  They continue to promise final documents within 2-3 business days.  At this point, I needed my documents and approved the resume to get the rest of my promised documents.  I did not receive the next round of my documents until 7/25/22, well past the agreed 2-3 days, and they were so poor that I contacted customer service.  I also requested a 50% refund at this time due to the amount of time to even get draft documents and the amount of time I spent proofreading their work.  At this point, this is not only unacceptable workmanship but also breach of contract.  I request a 100% refund of fees paid as I still do not have finalized documents.  I never approved the cover letter, biography or LinkedIn profile as final drafts.  In fact, the LinkedIn profile couldn't be used as their directions to copy and paste demonstrated formatting that did not transfer.

This client filed a chargeback with their CC company, so unfortunately there is nothing else we can do to resolve this complaint. We wish her all the best.

[I did file a chargeback with my credit card company but S*****line Resumes disputed the chargeback and cited their no refunds policy.  I submitted the timeline of events and how S*****line was in Breach of Contract but my credit card company has honored the no refunds policy by S*****line.  I am once again requesting a full refund of fees paid.
