      Business response

      08/25/2022

Hey *******, we spoke last Friday around noon. This is a follow up and response to the letters I received in the mail from the BBB. On June 11th 2022 my team and I arrived to ** ****** ****** in Hanover Pa. Upon arriving I met **** ****** owner of ** ****** ****** for the second time. We both went over exactly step by step of the Job we both agreed upon for $3800.00 a few weeks earlier. My team and I  began demolition & excavating the estimated area behind his house. We finished the excavation and both **** myself and my operator went over the area we just dug out. Everything was great there was not a single problem or complaint from **** and he gave us confirmation to move forward with the top soil.

I came in with my dump truck full of fresh top soil and dumped it in the area we just dug out. We spread the top soil around to level and grade off the yard and once again we got confirmation from **** everything was up to par. So I told him we were going to call it a night and that I needed a down payment for the sod I had ordered on Friday. **** then went inside and came out and handed me $1000.00 which left us with a balance of $2800.00. The following day Sunday June 12th was a complete wash out with a rain storm. I called **** first thing that Sunday morning and  I explained with how wet and muddy the yard was going to be because of the rain that we couldn’t lay the sod until the following day, Monday morning June 13th which he understood and was fine with.

First thing Monday morning I went over to ******* garden center and I picked up the order of sod I placed on Friday. We loaded up the trucks and headed to ** ******. We arrived 10am that Monday June 13th and we got the rakes out and began prepping the yard before beginning to lay down the sod. I would like to note that **** was right beside us every step of this job with a mouth full of words and never left our side. After prepping the yard we unloaded the sod and began laying it throughout the yard. We finished within two hours. I then asked **** to get the hose out and to begin watering it right away. I then instructed him to water the yard first thing every morning for a good 10 to 15 mins, once again in the afternoon and then one more time before sun down for the next 4 weeks. **** made note of this and clearly told me he’s “got it from here” .

While we were loading up the trucks with all the tools and getting ready to leave **** came over to my truck and started an argument over some left over sod that was still on my truck. After a few mins of going back and forth with him he asked if we could spread some of the extra sod that was left over along side of his house “where there was already nice growing grass” . I didn’t argue with him I told him he could have it all. So I then instructed a few of my guys to lay the left over sod for him. After everything was finished I asked **** if he could pay me the balance of $2800.00 and after a few foul words from him he went inside to grab the money which he did pay me.

Before we left we did shake hands and all in all **** was happy with the final results of the job we completed. A few days have passed and I started getting some weird text messages from ****, talking about my kids and having a good Father’s Day etc. After not answering these messages I started getting more text messages from **** now saying I left tools on the job and how I should come back to pick them up. Then a few more days goes by and I started getting texts that his sod is turning brown.

So I answered this one text from him stating this is not something out of the ordinary, it does happen I tried to explain to him and that it just needs to be watered correctly. I then offered to come over and to take a look at the lawn. A couple days have passed and I started getting harassment like text messages and phone calls from **** which I have never received by any owner I ever completed a job for before. It was quite odd and out of color the times of day and night this man would message or try calling me. Even after these harassment like texts I decided to pick up a phone call from him. I remember the phone call like it was yesterday because it was a Sunday night when I was surrounded by family. **** began screaming and yelling, cursing at me that his sod is turning brown.

Being an honest and respectful businessman I will always go above and beyond for anyone of my customers especially if there was a problem on a job. **** knew this and I even told him I would come back over to check it out for him. But after the cursing harassing phone call that Sunday night that my whole family over heard on speaker phone I refused to answer him again.

At the end of the day I did my job and we completed it in a professional manner. What happens after we leave a job is in the home owners hands. It’s their responsibility to take care of the lawn and to make sure the sod is watered correctly. All I can do is instruct them on what to do before we leave the job which is exactly what I did for ****. He was a hard man to deal with and I bit my tongue more than once on that job. My fellow workers are witnesses of this man’s behavior and attitude over those couple days on this job. That Sunday night on the phone when he called me, my whole family including both parents heard this man cursing me out and talking in a foul manor towards me.

I take before and after photos of every single job I perform to prove that we did our Job and that we did it in a professional manner and up to code. Unfortunately **** did not do his. Other than the photos I took from this job I also have every single text message between **** and I which can back up my story on this issue.
