On December 13, 2021, Mr. Scott G****** of Northumberland, PA sold us a John Deere X500 mower with a plow and cab for $4900. He took our trade- in D140 and plow and deducted $800 from the price. Because it did not snow a great deal last winter, it was only used two times on our 300-foot driveway. The real test of its utility came in the spring when it was time to mow. The first time I mowed our 1-acre property, about 2/3 the way through, the mower simply stopped working. It had to be towed away. When it was returned, the highly reputable businessperson who fixed it (whom we have been using for twenty years) told us that a cable was not wired properly. He fixed this problem. He also told us that the mower was near the end of its expected life at 1100+ hours, that he saw evidence that the vehicle had been “worked very hard” (banged up a lot), and that this meant the motor and transmission were likely to give out soon. I attempted to finish mowing my lawn, but after twenty minutes, found that the deck would not lower to the mowing position. I had to try numerous times to get it to lower, and when it did, although I had it on the second lowest setting, it did not cut the grass. My husband called Mr. G******, asking him to reverse the transaction because we had paid $4346.00 for the mower and had gotten less than five hours’ use out of it. After telling us that he would consider a trade-in for another $4000, he then returned a text a couple days later saying that he would do nothing for us. Since then, two reputable professionals in the business confirmed that he has a reputation for selling poor quality products. One of those professionals told us that others have had problems almost immediately after buying something from him.
