I adopted ****, a senior Chocolate Lab, from this rescue the end of October 2022. I was told he was in good health and had been checked by vet prior to transport to CT where I picked him up. That was not the case when I picked him up and brought him home. He had a growth protruding from his chest, a quarter size tumor on the back of his neck. I had him to vet within a week to check these issues out. At the vet visit, it was also found that he had some teeth that looked like the roots had been exposed and a large piece of gum hanging from his upper jaw. I received a surgical estimate for the removal of growth/tumor/and xray of teeth and the owner agreed to pay half of the bill which at that time was $1500.00 ****'s surgery was scheduled for Jan 19th at my request. I needed a little time to save for the surgery. I had spent $625.00 for his adoption fee. While in surgery, I received a call from my vet stating xrays of teeth weren't too good. He needed to have two teeth removed and the gum growth excised bringing the total now to $2200.00 I let Katy know of this but told her she would only be responsible for $750.00 as originally agreed upon. It's now March 11, 2023 and after a few email exchanges, lastly Katy as**** me to "send her a reminder email" for two weeks ago which oddly enough I sent. As it stands today, I haven't received any reimbursement and feel that I've been more than fair. I am submitting this complaint to let other patrons know what happened to me by this rescue. Thank you.

We regret that ***** has not been happy with the payment arrangement for the vet bill. $100 towards the $750 was paid last week. Payments will continue as we can afford them. Thank you for giving **** a wonderful home *****

Transaction date 2/18/2022 Paid $600 via PayPal for and "adoption fee" when finding a pet on petfinder where it was claim it was local but when calling found out it was not but in South Carolina. Turns out the woman lists in other states stating she will deliver there even though the dog itself is not here as in her listings. Had a problem with the dog due to allergies with me and my child, asked about a refund, refused to answer until finally got her on the phone. One of her admin workers said the same thing, I would get a refund minus $150 transport fee. When no response on what to do with the dog after I offered to pay to send him back down to her I had no choice but to surrender to SPCA. She called and threatened me with law enforcement action. Yelled and cursed at me (most likely mad because she wanted the dog back so she can sell again). Anyways, she made arrangements to get the dog back. Was told that I would get a refund and I said I wanted to talk about it, next day she doesn't pick up my phone calls from our scheduled call and says she will not be giving a refund. She has the dog and took our money.

Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2022/03/02) */ The complainant has spun the situation to suit himself. None of the information he has provided is accurate. He violated the terms of his adoption contract, directly lied to the Baltimore SPCA and put the dog at risk of death without our knowledge. He will not be getting a refund of any kind. Myself and my staff and volunteers were in constant communication with the complainant to rehome the dog as quickly as possible when he reached out about the allergies. He was aware that he needed to give us 2 weeks and in the meantime we told him he could board the dog and was given other resources. He then decided to surrender the dog to the SPCA of Baltimore without our knowledge. The SPCA asked him directly if he had contacted us about surrendering the dog to them and they replied yes. Also in regards to the dog being posted in the MD area when the dog was still in SC, we plainly tell all potential adopters at first contact that the dogs are in SC until transport to the NE US. We are not deceptive and fully transparent. ******* was in possession of all the facts before he ever signed the adoption contract. Had ******* told us before taking the dog to the SPCA we would have arranged for emergency boarding. Pick up for the dog had been arranged for 3/3/22 which was within the 2 week post adoption window. He chose to violate his contract and put the dog at risk so therefore there will be no refund. If you need any more information please feel free to contact me directly. Thank you. Consumer Response /* (3000, 8, 2022/03/02) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Seller texted me today stating she will provide a full refund but have yet to do so. The seller is being deceitful, I have documentation stating I have to return the dog. I offered the seller multiple opportunities to do so, therefore the contract was not violated. I contacted her about the problem and she told me to take Benadryl....Then I have called multiple times and have been unreliably reaching her. She claims "do you know how many calls/texts that I get", well that's not the consumer's problem and she should have better staff to respond. First offer was for me to pay to have the dog shipped to a partner rescue in CT, but then she made an excuse that they charge for that and would have to raise money...well what about the $600 adoption fee I paid, that could have went towards that. Then another option I offered was to pay to have him shipped back to her business, that's when she stopped responding because she could not think of an excuse. Due to her poor communication, customer service and transparency I surrendered to dog to the well known Maryland SPCA whom she downplayed and yelled at me while on the phone. I gave the seller multiple options, had she responded in a timely manner and been more specific that "we're working on it" then this would have never happened. I was aware that the dog was not located in my state after I called, but their practice of listing dogs for adoption (aka sale) in other states suggesting they are there are very deceitful. Also based on her negative google reviews, others have had the similar issues with her. Seller texted me today telling me if I apologize she will provide a full refund. Again, I still have not received it.
