July 15, 2024. Our serviceman, Frank, from Dryer Vent Wizard, Suffolk County, was courteous, knowledgeable and neat. My main concern was fire safety; now I have that sense of security. He went over everything in detail, patiently explaining information regarding future maintenance as well. I will be recommending this company to my friends. ******** **

When requesting service I told the business owner that the dryer duct had been cleaned but we suspected it had become disconnected to the outside vent cover. I also told him that the owner/resident was 95 years old and fearful that the dryer might overheat. When asked about costs he told me that it would probably be around $125-200. He came out the next morning and looked at the existing vent and recommended replacing it. His orig. estimate to replace 8-10 ft vent was over $1100. The 95 year old resident (Mother-in-law) asked him if he could do any cheaper and he reduced to $896 with senior discount. Out of fear elderly resident agreed to do the work. After finishing the work (less than 2 hours) I gave him a call and asked about the exorbitant charge. I reminded him of our conversation the previous day when he said average cost was usually between $125-200. I also asked why he did not reconnect the existing duct and he said that due to liability he could not touch the existing installation (pvc pipe) because it did not meet building code. I asked for an itemized invoice detailing his charges for the work. Dryer vent line installed $365 90 degree elbow installed $89 Metal outside cover installed $139 Vent pipe hanger installation $93 Flexible vent from floor to dryer $119 Crawl space/constricted space charge $190 (had to go under a duct to get to the vent) discount -$99 I told Mr. B***** there was no justification for these charges. He is charging for installation with each part of the duct (e.g. vent line, elbow, outside cover, hangers, and flexable vent are all a part of the duct and total less than $100 in materials, but he has an install charge added to each part). I told him that he took advantage of a 95 year old woman's fear and I would be complaining to BBB.

When a customer calls and requests pricing over the phone our policy is to provide as accurate a price as possibly however we always let a customer know that we cannot give exact pricing without being onsite and doing a full evaluation. The pricing that was referenced in the review above all looks correct as per my conversation with *****. That being said there are a few details he has failed to mention. ***** was not the one who I dealt with at the home. Nor was I interacting with his 95 year old mother in law. I was dealing with her son ****. I explained every detail what what we were proposing to ****. I walked him through the pricing and gave him the explanation on why we could not just reconnect a non-code compliant vent system for his mother. ***** called me after the fact and expressed his anger at the situation. I have since attempted to reach out to ***** with no response back. Is a full vent replacement of a dryer venting system in a crawlspace expensive? Absolutely. Did I take advantage of a old fearful woman? Absolutely not. **** was there and **** wanted his mother to have the peace of mind that her vent system would not represent a fire danger for her. He and I had a very frank discussion about the pricing and the final cost did not include any charge for the inspection of the vent system and a senior citizens discount of 10% off the total cost. Our pricing is a result of 15 years of exclusively servicing dryer venting systems and has been established by our home office. I do not set the pricing, I work with customers as best as I can to keep costs reasonable and I explain everything we provide in detail before we ever start a job. The products that we recommend and use in our industry are not just standard builders grade materials. The cost that he quoted for the hanger was not one hanger, it was three hangers that were required to support the vent system. The elbow that was referenced by Jerry is a specialized product that eliminates excessive back pressure from a dryer vent system resulting in better airflow and less frequent need for cleanings. (www.Dryer-Ell.com) This ultimately saves a customer money by reducing the cost to maintain a dryer vent system in the future. **** clearly understood the benefits of what we were proposing and he was very professional in his dealings with me and the additional technician that was on site. It is unfortunate that ***** could not be there to share in the experiences that we have delivered to customers for the past decade in the upstate. As I have stated in this reply to his complaint, I have tried to reach out to him again and he has not responded.

My name is **** ****. After reading Matthew B******* comments I wanted to comment as well. Matthew’s statement that he did not interact with my Mom is incorrect. When he gave pricing for replacing the dryer vent, I told him that was a lot of money and that my Mom insisted on paying her bills without family assistance. I asked if he could not improve on the pricing and he gave another small discount. He then spoke with my Mom. She too asked if he could not improve on the pricing and Matthew said no. My Mom was extremely nervous about the dryer and wanted it fixed. I knew Matthew charges were exorbitant but my Mom wanted to proceed. The bottom line is for two hours work and with approximately $100 in materials, Matthew charged $896 to install a dryer vent.
