On July 2, 2024 I Purchased blue Devil radiator leak stop because I noticed a small pinhole leak in my car radiator. I applied the product as Per the instructions on the label, my car overheated almost instantly. My brand new $700 aluminum radiator is ruined. I’ve had to pull the engine out of the car, take the engine apart, this product is restricting and or blocking all the coolant passages in the cylinder heads that are brand new and cost me over $2000. I now have to send the engine to a machine shop to have the garbage cleaned out of the cylinder cooling jackets, hopefully be able to clean it out of the cylinder heads, have the cylinder heads checked to see if they are warped, and the engine block inspected for other damage caused by this product. I lodged a formal complaint with ******** tire, they had blue Devil products contact me on Friday, July 12, 2024. The individual on the phone named Ryan told me that his product is not designed to stop leaks despite what the bottle says. He made the erroneous claim to me that their product is more for gigantic holes in radiators as opposed to the true definition of what a leak is, so this would fall under the category of false advertising for one. He informed me, quite incorrectly, that the combination of distilled white vinegar and water will remove the product from the engine and radiator. I informed him that I had already flushed the coolant system twice with double strength, cleaning vinegar and water mix. Ryan responded by telling me that cleaning vinegar is not distilled white vinegar, I corrected him. I am lodging this formal complaint with the BBB in the hopes that more individuals who have had this issue will flood the Better Business Bureau with complaints and that this company can be held accountable for the damage they have done to most likely thousands of peoples cars. I’ve had two mechanics so far look at the engine and the radiator and both have said to send the engine to a machine shop.

We contacted the customer on 7/2/24 and were able to discuss his claim and concerns in some detail.  We informed the customer that the product he used is specifically intended to treat water/coolant leaks. He mentioned that the radiator was brand new and that he was using the product as a preventative measure/maintenance.  He also mentioned that he did not have to add any antifreeze/water to this system prior to using the product. During the conversation, when explaining that the issues incurred were a result of the product being used in an unintended way, he was unhappy with the explanation and also seemed to be unhappy when we recommended a solution to help remove the product and restore the cooling system to normal functionality.

I own a 2008 Ford Edge that was purchased new and has had all if its maintenance performed at the dealership. The vehicle looks and ran like new until I was advised by my local Auto zone representative to use Blue Devil Oil Stop product for a minor oil leak I was experiencing. After putting the product in and following the instructions I attempted to drive the vehicle. The motor locked up resulting in the vehicle having to be towed to the dealership where it is still sitting. We await Auto Zone taking responsibility for pushing this product as a win for us that has now resulted in the need for a replacement motor and a 6k bill to do so. Auto zone continues to give us the run around. This product is destroying vehicles and lives!

I am rejecting this response because the product did result in extreme damage to the car. The mechanic is working up the documentation to submit for claims coverage of the new motor that is now required as a result if using the product.

Purchased Blue Devil Oil Stop Leak. Did not work. Contacted Blue Devil for refund and submitted claim form on January 28, 2023 by e-mail. Contacted Ryan several times who stated check was in the mail be patient. to there was a problem and that a check was sent out on March 15, 2023. Latest phone call Ryan stated come on its only $20 bucks. I think there never was a check in the mail and Ryan probably has done this to other people and gotten away with it.

My complaint is that I purchased the Blue Devil Power Steering Stop Leak, poured about 1/3 bottle into each of my vehicles' power steering resivors (a 2002 Camry and a 2006 Sienna) both were driven less than a week, about 3-4 days after pouring it in, the power steering fluid began streaming from the vehicles and making the classic whine, the Sienna was leaking from the rack and pinion before and when I checked for the leak location, I saw it was coming out of the pump itself, the Camry had the exact same issue, but I had not pinned down the exact location of the leak before it started streaming down out of the pump. Also I am a mechanic by trade. So I purchased a replacement pump from Rockauto.com and replaced (in my little spare time) it in the Sienna since my wife drives it and needed the power steering to work again. And since replacing it, it has had no issues. I am looking for a refund of the cost of the pump and fluid. I have reached out to a couple people at their company both have stoppped contact, one after saying they'd contact me the next day about the status of my refund request. I waited a week, still no contact, reached out, still no contact. So here I am. Cost of the pump was $131.71, flate rate time to replace is 2.2 hours, current local shop rate is $120/hr. Plus about 1.1 quarts of power steering fluid. If anyone needs more info, I can provide it.

We have been in contact with the customer, and he has already been refunded for the cost of the product.  Customer states that replacing the pump fixed the problem.  Product guarantee has been fulfilled.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

My pump was not leaking.  The pump was dry, no leaks, until i used the stop leak.  Both of my vehicles did the exact same thing, pumps lost all fluid out the pump.  On the 2006 Sienna, the rack and pinion is still leaking.  My complaint is that the stop leak made my pumps loose all the fluid, and i paid for one pump to be replaced.

      Sincerely,

      ******* ********

BlueDevil Power Steering Stop Leak doesn't have the ability to cause a power steering pump to fail or start leaking.  Low power steering fluid levels, however, is one of the most common causes of power steering pump failure.  If the leak was left untreated for an extended period of time, it would explain why the power steering pump failed.

04/02/2023 We had bought the blue Devil head gasket sealer for my husbands car and followed the directions step by step. We let it run for 50 min like it said with max fan and heat and it got about 30 min in and started overheating which it had never done before and now has a battery light on which hasn’t had before either.

I bought blue devil head gasket sealer approx on Jan 3, 2023 from ******* in Mansfield Ohio. I read the directions and completed them one by one as instructed. Wait til the engine is complete cool , open radiator cap slowly pour in, run engine 50 min at idle. Etc.... when finished you top it off with radiator fluid and go. About 3 days later I was heading to work and my vehicle's heat wouldn't work. The temp of the water would fluctuate 20deg from take offs and stopping. That went on for 10 miles before I turned around to go home and get the wife's car. When it later when I checked the radiator the whole inside underneath the cap looked like someone had shoved crisco grease into all the fins and tubes. I've tried all things to get that out except just replacing the radiator. But it seems like I'm not alone. Hundreds if not thousands have videos and chats stating the same thing, their radiator, thermostat, everything is clogged. I have pictures to prove it.

I received a note from a dealership in which they stated my radiator had a leak. Following this advice I decided to try the Blue Devil product, Radiator and block sealer. After following all of the instructions on the bottle word for word and even looking into the forums about potential mistakes people make, the sealer in turn clogged my entire cooling system causing extensive damage. This is despite the fact that both the site and bottle say the product cannot cause clogs and cannot damage the cooling system of the vehicle. I had to bring the vehicle into the closest mechanic upon driving the car as the engine was badly overheating and was without a vehicle for 4 days while they attempted clear the blockages and replace the damaged parts. I wish to seek full compensation covering the cost of repairs and damage done to my vehicle. There are multiple parts which required replacing and the entire cooling system was badly damaged by the blockages caused by their product. Attached is the mechanic statements claiming the damage was caused by the product, costs of repair, receipts and the statement directly from their website ensuring no damage can be done with the product.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

This is a gross downplay of any o what was spoken about or the concerns voiced. Firstly you may want to mention that it was not out of not wanting to contact sooner. But when the outdoor temperatures are subzero and the car is inoperable due to the product, the luxury of waiting until morning to give you a call and ask if we should use Vinegar and Water to un destroy the damaged parts... that luxury doesn't exist. I don't expect to ever see the money from you regarding a radiator and I understand that given it wasn't in perfect condition, though worked just fine before your product touched my system. I do however fully expect and will receive compensation for the rest of the cooling system your product damaged of which was in good condition. I do not much care what you want to say about what the causes may have been. As if it wasn't explicitly listed on the packaging or instructions of the product, it is false advertisement and will be treated as such. This product was nothing but misleading in every facet of its wording and packaging. And if you expect every person who ever uses a product to call the company to get a different step by step instruction than what you already printed on the product, you are sadly mistaken. This can easily be handled in good faith and just cover the damages, or it can be handled swiftly via the legal process which I can assure you is not going to be nearly as cheap or beneficial for either party. It is your decision.

      Sincerely and with respect.

We have received the customer's claim information.  In discussing the issue with the customer, it seems that actions outside of the product guidelines were administered and may have contributed to the issue.  The customer explained that there were no issues during the application of the product and the vehicle maintained idle without overheating.  Not long after the application, it seems the customer began operating the vehicle again, without allowing for a proper cool down.  This would have adversely affected the product, as it is heat activated.

So on October 7th 2022 I put blue devil in my car because I had oil in my radiator fluid. Now it has been at the mechanic shop for 3 weeks because of overheating. They have replaced the entire cooling system and it's still overheating. My bill sits at $2100 dollars now and it's still overheating. It was not overheating before using this product. The entire system is now clogged.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The response from the company has nothing to do with me complaint. My complaint is that their product blue devil clogged up my entire colling system and now I'm without a car. The car was not overheating until I used their product.
Now can you please respond to the actual complaint
My complaint is that your product ruined my car and the bill is at 2100 hundred dollars and it's still overheating.

      Business response

We have not received contact from this customer. The product the customer used is only intended for water/coolant leaks. There is not a product on the market that would stop oil from getting into the radiator.
