After two ER visits to sycamore shoals, I am disgusted. The information in my notes (medical history) were completely inaccurate. My bed smelled like urine. The doctors talked over me, dismissed any complaints, and sent me home explain if I just had anxiety (typical because I’m a woman). Doctors were very unconcerned. The nurse put on gloves then touched multiple objects like paper, pens, etc before removing my IV. I then bled so much because the IV was too big and buried too far into my arm, causing extreme pain. I bled after removal completely down to my hand. My notes also didn’t list any additional symptoms I explained I was having at both visits that weren’t related to anxiety, I assume because that would require more effort. After leaving the second time, I found this kind of lazy misdiagnoses from the same doctor nearly killed two of relatives and a friend within the last year. Every person I know in this county told me to avoid this emergency room but I assumed they were only a few people with bad experiences. However I now find consistency with every complaint I see. Also, at my first visit, complaining of multiple symptoms including shortness of breath, no one thought it important to tell me I had emphysema. This is a terrible emergency room with a disrespectful staff only interested in chit chatting at the nurse’s station. This is where they gathered for 20 minutes after I asked for help just going to a restroom. My own family had to figure out how to unhook me from multiple cords. These are terrible doctors, Ballad is a terrible company that no one in this area supports. Their expenses are triple what they are at other health systems. Politics are hurting people who need help.Review from Janice R

One of the most worse experiences that I have had. They tried to double bill for services that I paid for on the day of service. I was threaten with the account being sent to collections, even though I already had paid the bill in 10/23. It is now 2/24 and this is still not resolved. They will not return phone calls or provide me with an email address to communicate with them. I was forced to go on a payment plan to avoid the account going to collections. They are now admitting their Billing service made a mistake. However, I can not get anything in writing or a new invoice showing that the account is clear and they will refund me the money I was forced to pay on the payment plan,Review from Patricia M

I am sitting at the lab on VannHill Road and waiting for the lab to open. Patients deserve to be made aware of changes in hours prior to the change. I have been here since 7:20 and found out that it opens at 9, I guess the patients are not important to Ballad Health. Surprise...Surprise , Thanks BBB for you help in this matterReview from Sharon G

I had a outpatient test December 2022 it is now December 2023 and I am still waiting on a refund. When I ask to speak to someone in charge my calls are never returned. When I call billing I am told it is being escalated and can take 30 days. This has been going on for months, way past 30 days. Then this December I am told the amount I show due as a refund on the app is lower than they will be refunding, if I am ever refunded. I wish we had other hospitals other than Ballad in our area so we didn't have to travel 100s of miles or go out of state past TN and VA.Review from Natalie J

I have so far been in the ER for 6 hours…part of the reason was due to mistakes in my care and lack of communication between the doctors and nurses on duty. For instance…scheduling me for a CT with contrast but then pulling my iv after struggling to get blood from me to begin with. So I ended up doing it without contrast because my arm couldn’t take it anymore. Unfortunately they only had one arm to use due to lymph node removal in the other. 6 hours is ridiculous. It was in between a shift change so I had to be examined twice with two different plans. I had to undress in a robe and then redress multiple times due to lack of communication between the nurses and doctors. This was in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion VA. So disorganized and so unfocused. Thank goodness I am not dying. Otherwise I would be in trouble. The hospital is not busy and many of the staff was shooting the breeze in the hall.Review from St B

Absolutely horrible! This facility is a complete nightmare. Apathy runs deep here and the level of care is unethical and very unprofessional.Review from Diana J

I am getting concerned with Ballad for our medical care. Kingsport Gastroenterologist in Kingsport cannot use the hospital for outpatient procedures. We have to travel to Knoxville. Also we have been informed that Ballad may not accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee. This is the insurance all of our doctors accept. I am trying to call Ballad to file a complaint but they won’t answer the phone.Review from SE H

First off if I could I would give ballad a big fat 0!!! My father figure was admitted on Wednesday due to a fall and there's been a few times they've tired giving him something he's not suppose to have. Also was going to give him a MRI and he has a pace maker so he can't have MRIs. The doctor on durty the weekend refuses to listen to his wife's (my mother figure) repeated request to put him on meds to calm him down. He has Alzheimer's and is confused, acting out a lot since he's been there. From what I understand our primary doctor is not allowed to treat my dad due to Ballard's stupid rules. No other hospitals are allowed to build a hospital in the area because Ballad keeps them out. All I read is bad review after bad review for Ballad but we don't have a choice but to go there to be treated unless we drive hours out of their area. Ballad is money hungry and has a bunch of quacks and selfish doctors working for them!! Something needs to be done so people can have a choice of hospitals to go to here!! OSHA or someone should be checking them out and get to the bottom of everything like who is Ballad paying to keep other hospitals out of the area, how many times have they been sued, etc.
