I have been having problems with heating my home since November. I used a company I have used for over a decade but which has been passed down to the next generation. In November 24 I was told my thermostat was bad and I needed a new thermostat. I ordered one at roughly $200 and had it installed but still had issues. I called company back in December and they came out for service call fee and said there was something programmed wrong in the thermostat which they "fixed". Still problems. In January I called again and they came out (another service fee) and said "Oh, don't know how we missed this the first 2 times but you have a faulty part that needs replacing." The end of January they came and replaced the air handler/heating unit. This past week we had temps between 11-18 degrees and I couldn't heat my house above 62 degrees. After all this, I really just don't trust them. So I call a different company to come out yesterday 2/22/25. He says the heat pump is fine and there is nothing wrong with it. The thermostat is fine. He also observes that they could not have put an air handler in because I have a package unit and an air handler goes in a split system. Then he says, "have you checked the crawl space?" And I say have YOU checked the crawl space? To the best of my knowledge NO ONE has checked the crawl space. And this guy doesn't want to go under the house! but he takes pictures with his phone and says your ductwork is old, you need new ductwork, but you are definitely heating the crawl space. He didn't charge me anything. Today I went in the crawl space myself, and not even 3 feet inside the door it is obvious that an animal has torn a hole in the duct (see photos). So there was NEVER anything wrong with my heat pump and I have paid out the wazoo for nothing, and all because people don't want to do their jobs. I am 62 years old, why am I the one in the crawl space with duct tape and out hundreds of dollars?????
